This week’s Glee is no doubt going to be the most difficult episode to watch in the history of the show, as the cast pay tribute to the late Cory Monteith (and his on-screen character, Finn), who died July 13 of an overdose.

You might want to get the tissues out a little early because FOX has released the six songs featured in this Thursday’s episode, “The Quarterback”: “Seasons of Love” from Rent, The Pretenders’ “I’ll Stand by You,” James Taylor’s “Fire and Rain,” The Band Perry’s “If I Die Young,” Bruce Springsteen’s “No Surrender” and Bob Dylan/Adele’s “To Make You Feel My Love.”

Some of the original cast members — Mercedes, Puck and Mike — return to honor their friend and former classmate. Both Mercedes and Puck have their own solo numbers, along with performing in the group number with the original New Directions from season 1. Because the 2.0 gang (Marley, Jake, etc.) didn’t really know Finn all that well, it’s seems fitting then that they don’t have any involvement in the songs this week — as you can see from the set list, it’s all the originals.

“I’ll Stand by You” is a reprise from the 10th episode of season 1 (“Ballad”) — Finn performed the song to Quinn’s ultrasound when he was under the assumption he was the father of her baby.

A lot of fans are wondering why Chris Colfer doesn’t have a solo, considering Kurt is Finn’s step-brother, after all. I’m sure showrunner Ryan Murphy asked the entire cast if anyone wanted to pay tribute and maybe Colfer felt it would have been too difficult to perform on his own under the circumstances.
