Teri Hatcher, cast member on the ABC dramedy Desperate Housewives, was stunned after discovering that a thief had been ringing up her lost ATM card.

After reporting to the bank that she misplaced her cash card, Hatcher was notified that a thief had been lavishly using her card, spending a total of $12,000 from various transactions. “I called to cancel it and was actually stolen… I don’t use it much, so they had rung up $12,000. They did 90 different transactions and I know that because for every single fraud thing you have to sign out a whole slip that says, ‘No, I wasn’t at Joe’s Diner, spending $20 on chili,’” Hatcher explained.

Evidently, the thief who got Hatcher’s card strategically intended to purchase at different shops in various places to avoid getting caught. “There were a lot of trips to Albertsons [grocery store] in the Valley [Los Angeles], Vons, Longs Drugs, lots of little purchases. I think that’s probably how they get away with it. It dawned on me as I was doing this that in 90 times of them giving the card, nobody ever went, ‘Teri Hatcher…’ I was really kinda freaked out that that could happen,” said the Desperate Housewives actress.

Following the loss of her cash card, the 42-year old actress pointed out that she learned a lot from the distressing incident. In fact, it left a positive impact on her life, encouraging her to be more organized so she will be more aware if something’s missing. “I’m cleaning everything to get more organized,” added Hatcher.

Hatcher, a native of Palo Alto, California, currently plays Susan on Desperate Housewives. Her acting credits include Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, 2 Days in the Valley, Tomorrow Never Dies and Tango & Cash among others.
