Bonnie Hammer, the president of the SciFi Channel, says that a recent plot script for “Caprica” is being reworked to have a slightly lighter tone.

Produced by Battlestar Galactica’s Ronald D. Moore and David Eick, “Caprica”, a spinoff of (and prequel to) the hit series, will be set approximately fifty years before the current series, and will follow the lives of the Adama and Graystone families. Also dealing with the creation of the Cylon robots, the sci-fi series is being marketed as a “family drama.”

“Caprica” may premiere in late 2007, if all goes well. There is no word yet on casting for the series.

Battlestar Galactica’s third season premieres October 6 in the US on the Sci-Fi Channel, and October 7 in Canada on Space Channel.
