Get ready for even more walkers! The Walking Dead season 5 premiere is still days away, but AMC has already renewed it for its sixth season. Is anyone surprised?

“We could not be more excited for October 12 as we share new episodes of The Walking Dead with fans around the globe,” AMC President Charlie Collier has said in a statement. “In advance of Sunday’s season five premiere, AMC proudly confirms a sixth season order of this extraordinary series. Thank you to Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, the terrific executive producers, and the entire team who brings this compelling world and these rich characters to life. There’s plenty more Dead ahead thanks to their impressive, collective effort.”

Scott Gimple will return as the series’ showrunner and executive producer, along with executive producers Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero and Tom Luse, for season 6.

AMC also recently announced that it ordered a pilot for a companion series, based on a new story and new characters from Robert Kirkman. Production is slated to start in late 2014.

The fifth season of The Walking Dead, the #1 show on television among adults 18-49 for the last two years and most highly-rated show in cable television history, premieres October 12 at 9pm, followed by the live season premiere of Talking Dead, hosted by Chris Hardwick, with guests Scott M. Gimple, Greg Nicotero and Conan O’Brien, at 10pm.

If it’s on TV — especially if it’s a procedural or superhero show — chances are Meredith watches it. She has a love for all things fiction, starting from a young age with ER and The X-Files on the small screen and the Nancy Drew books. Arrow kicked off the Arrowverse and her true passion for all things heroes. She’s enjoyed getting into the minds of serial killers since Criminal Minds, so it should be no surprise that her latest obsession is Prodigal Son.
