Rev. Run

Date Of Birth

November 14, 1964

Joseph Lloyd Simmons or better known as Rev Run was born on November 14, 1964, in Hollis, Queens, NY, and is one of the founders of the hip-hop sensation Run-DMC. Rev Run, or DJ Run, as he is also called, is the younger brother of Russell Simmons, the founder of Def Jam Records. He takes lead in the hip-hop band along with his friend and co-founder Darryl McDaniels (thus the name DMC). His band had collaborated with DJ Jam Master Jay and had proliferated inventive and revolutionary styles. Joseph Simmons is a real-life reverend, thus the name Rev Run. He was ordained under the Zoe Ministries along with his wife who is known as Justine Simmons. The Run-DMC band proliferated during the 1980s and into the new millennium with a 2002 summer tour with Kid Rock and Aerosmith. Following this, the band split and Joseph Simmons ventured into the solo artist business.

Without the band to back him up, Joseph Simmons carried out his solo career by releasing his album entitled Distortion. Other projects included the MTV reality sitcom Run’s House where he starred together with his family. It aired in the fall of 2005. The series lasted for three seasons until it wrapped up in 2009. Since then, he continued to make appearances such as those in the Bay Area Fellowship Church with Pastor Bil Cornelius in Corpus Christi, Texas in 2011.
