Born September 9, 1971, Henry Jackson Thomas, Jr. is an American actor and musician. He was born in San Antonio, Texas and attended East Central High School and studied philosophy and history at Blinn College. Thomas dropped out after one year. He wanted to become an actor when he was eight, saying so after watching a PBS special on acting.
Henry Thomas auditioned for a part in the Sissy Spacek film Raggedy Man in 1981 and got it, playing Harry for the film. That same year, he was given the part of the kid in the TV fantasy-drama The Steeler and the Pittsburgh Kid. He is best known for his role of Elliott in the 1982 Spielberg film E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial. His performance led him to be cast as Andrew in Misunderstood and as Davey Osborne in Cloak & Dagger, both in 1984. This was followed by a role in Frog Dreaming, then Murder One and Valmont.
In the 1990s he was cast in several TV movies. These includes the horror Psycho IV: The Beginning, A Taste for Killing, Indictment: The McMartin Trial, Riders of the Purple Sage and Happy Face Murders. In 1993, his role was that of Greg Hayes in Fire in the Sky, and he also played Wesley Tate in The Starving Class. In 1994, he had his most prominent role as Samuel Ludlow in Legends of the Fall. He has also appeared in Bombshell, Hijacking Hollywood, and Niagra, Niagra, as well as in Suicide Kings and Fever. Henry Thomas has also played Ishmael in the TV adaptation of Moby Dick in 1999.
Henry Thomas has also appeared in 2000’s A Good Baby and All the Pretty Horses. In 2002, he was cast in I’m With Lucy and Dead in the Water, as well as Gangs of New York. The next year, he was in Honey Baby, I Capture the Castle, Briar Patch and 11:14. Thomas continued his TV appearances, playing Peter Jackson in 2006’s Desperation, and Robert Fornoy in the TV mini-series Nightmares and Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King. In 2007, he was given roles in The Last Sin Eater and Suffering Man’s Charity. Henry Thomas is also a musician, playing in a band known as The Blueheelers.
