After the successful run of Tyler Perry‘s House of Payne, the sitcom that seeks to illustrate struggles with faith and love in an African-American household with three generations of family within it, TBS has decided to pick up yet another project from series creator Tyler Perry.  This time, the network has ordered 10 episodes of the spin-off entitled Meet the Browns, which is based on Perry‘s film and play of the same name. "Tyler Perry is an extraordinary talent who has turned House of Payne into a record-breaking hit," Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks, said in a statement.  "We‘re thrilled at having the chance to repeat that success with Leroy Brown, a character already proven to be a big hit with audiences." Read more »

While there are several gay and African-American characters on TV, these awards usually highlight the lack of diversity by picking out such obscure nominees.
