The CWs Fall lineup was officially announced today, and as expected, most of the schedule remains in tact with the three new shows fitting in exactly where they belong. The decision to only schedule nine hours of original programming each week is a bit unusual for a growing network, but perhaps a more focused strategy will help the CW succeed. The only major upheaval is Smallville, about to enter season 9, is moving to Fridays at 8pm to make way for the new drama The Vampire Diaries. However, since Smallville is at the end of its run, it makes sense to prioritize the growth and development of new shows.More Fall Lineups:FOXABCNBCCBS

Will the audience bite into yet another vampire-themed series? Perhaps banking on the success of the Twilight saga, the CW is set to launch Vampire Diaries, a television adaptation of bestselling books courtesy of Scream and Dawsons Creeks Kevin Williamson. The network apparently has high hopes for the upcoming series, pairing it with Supernatural on Thursday nights, replacing Smallville. Wait, two shows featuring two brothers one after the other? The Vampire Diaries follows a dark love triangle with Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) right smack in the middle of a competition between two vampire brothers - one good, one evil - Stefan and Damon Salvatore (Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder). You dont have to be very discerning to figure out that the popularity of vampire-themed series largely owes its existence to the huge following that Twilight has birthed. With the CW recently coming up with The Vampire Diaries on its roster, one of its star Ian Somerhalder gives credit where its due. The Lost alumnus plays the bad vampire brother Damon Salvatore on the upcoming series."[Twilight] is a huge phenomenon," he tells MTV News. "Quite possibly and inarguably, yes [we have a show because of it], so Im not going to complain. I havent seen [Twilight] yet, so I dont know how it compares, but yeah, its good that theyre around."

While we have a long way to go before The Vampire Diaries premieres on the CW, perhaps its safe to say that fans of vampire-themed franchises cant wait to sink their teeth into the upcoming series; and debating whether youll really like it or not is moot at this point since no one has really seen the show.Perhaps to assuage the thirst of fans, however, the CW has released an extended trailer - more than five minutes long - giving potential Vampire Diaries viewers a chance to take a longer look at the highly anticipated series.

The Saturday and Sunday Comic-Con schedules were released over the weekend. I thought things would get really good on Saturday, but the list is less than impressive. I suppose with four full days of Comic-Con, you can spread out the really big panels. Once again, below is a list of our picks for the day. Check it out and if you see anything missing, check the full list here. One thing Im curious about is the Chuck panel. Why is it at 10am? Doesnt Chuck deserve one of the better time slots? Wouldnt NBC push for a better panel time? Chuck already had some struggles last season, but this season promises to kick-ass and the new kung fu twist is perfect for the Comic-Con fans. I stand perplexed. Either way, it looks like Ill be spending my morning with a donut, cup of coffee and my favorite show Chuck.Check out our list of picks below. Check out the other schedules: Thursday Friday Sunday

For those of you that dont know, Im a huge fan of Degrassi: The Next Generation. Imagine my utter delight when I got to interview Nina Dobrev who played Mia Jones in the Canadian television staple. More respectably, I was also a huge Everwood fan. Although he had a smaller part, Paul Wesleys Tommy Callahan still stole my heart when he stole Emily Van Camps Amy Abbott away from protagonist Ephram Brown. And did you know that Paul was also in American Dreams? He played Tommy DeFelice. Remember? These two were hitting up my television favorites before I was old enough and wise enough to write about TV for a living. I made a point to catch up with them both at the Entertainment Weekly and SyFy Comic-Con party in San Diego earlier this year.

Just when you thought the story on The Vampire Diaries was asrich and complex as possible, things get a lot more interesting. In1864, there are a ton of revelations, mostly that Damon really did loveand want Katherine to turn him. Also, Anna is the daughter of an oldvampire friend of Katherines named Pearl who is one of the other 26vampires in the Tomb.In the present, there are just as many big twists. Alaric tells Stefanabout what Damon did to his wife. Damon learns the truth about Anna. And Stefan tracks down Emilys spellbook in his fathers grave, onlyDamon takes it. That probably wont matter since hunky bartender Benkidnaps Bonnie after she finds out hes a vampire and Anna kidnapsElena. I say this every week, but The Vampire Diaries continues to impress me. More happens in every episode than happens in an entire season of most shows.

One of the many things I love about The Vampire Diaries is the dense, rich backstory from 1864. "Children of the Damned" was the secondepisode to provide flashbacks into the time the Salvatore brothers fellin love with the vampire Katherine, and it just added more mysteriesand more mythology to the series. At this point, The Vampire Diaries could spend an entire season in 1864 and Id be happy. The latest trip introduced the vampire Pearl and her daughter Annabel(aka present-day Anna), a duo working with Katherine in Mystic Falls. Knowing that Pearl is one of the 26 other vampires in Katherines Tombopens the door to one major question: who are the other 25?

Dear Vampire Diary,The second episode of The Vampire Diaries means twice the angst, twice the sexiness and because both Stefan and Elena get to narrate, twice as many pretentious voiceovers as Greys Anatomy. Its kind of like if Meredith Grey were in love with a boy version of herself. However, all their staring and brooding and allegedly "epic" romance isdull, even when they share their diary entries before having apassionate kiss. In the words of Meredith Grey, "Seriously?"

Theres no telling how far Damon would go to get what he wants but its pretty clear from the pilot episode of The Vampire Diaries that hes dead serious in making Stefans life miserable, whether it means letting Stefan take the blame for a recent attack or coming in between Stefan and his love interest Elena. The ratings are in, and it looks like vampires arent going anywhere. Last nights series premiere of the CWs The Vampire Diaries was watched by 4.8 million viewers, and thats without any additional DVR numbers.Just how big is that for the CW? Its on par with last years much-hyped premiere of 90210, which was the CWs highest-rated premiere ever. However, I suspect the fall-off into the second week wont be as huge, since The Vampire Diaries doesnt suck nearly as much as that did.

Dear Diary,Theres some crazy stuff going on in The Vampire Diaries. Thistown, Mystic Falls, seems like an average place where all the"teenagers" are ridiculously hot with outrageously fantasticvocabularies, and theyre all somehow connected to each other throughvarious hook-ups and family ties. In other words, its just like Dawsons Creek. But then theres this new kid and hes totally my brand of heroin. Helooks a bit like that Robert Pattinson guy, only with more manageablehair. His name is Stefan Salvatore, the dreamy and mysterious new kidin town, only hes not a kid, hes a centuries-old vampire!

Is it really worth all the hype? We find out tonight as The Vampire Diaries makes its debut at 8pm right before Supernatural returns for its fifth season on The CW. I admit I have my doubts about this show simply because it gives me the impression that Im watching some vampire flick rip-off with a hint of Dawsons Creek ---no offense to Dawsons Creek fans. Somehow, after all the preview clips and mostly positive reviews, Ive decide to give it try and Im now inclined to believe that its not all bad.
