Articles for The Vampire Diaries Season 1

The CW‘s Fall lineup was officially announced today, and as expected, most of the schedule remains in tact with the three new shows fitting in exactly where they belong.  The decision to only schedule nine hours of original programming each week is a bit unusual for a growing network, but perhaps a more focused strategy will help the CW succeed. The only major upheaval is Smallville, about to enter season 9, is moving to Fridays at 8pm to make way for the new drama The Vampire Diaries.  However, since Smallville is at the end of its run, it makes sense to prioritize the growth and development of new shows.More Fall Lineups:FOXABCNBCCBS Read more »
Will the audience bite into yet another vampire-themed series?  Perhaps banking on the success of the Twilight saga, the CW is set to launch Vampire Diaries, a television adaptation of bestselling books courtesy of Scream and Dawson‘s Creek‘s Kevin Williamson.  The network apparently has high hopes for the upcoming series, pairing it with Supernatural on Thursday nights, replacing Smallville.  Wait, two shows featuring two brothers one after the other? The Vampire Diaries follows a dark love triangle with Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) right smack in the middle of a competition between two vampire brothers - one good, one evil - Stefan and Damon Salvatore (Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder).  Wesley, 26, said the CW bigwigs are hoping Vampire Diaries will help the network reel in a bigger female demographic. Read more »
You don‘t have to be very discerning to figure out that the popularity of vampire-themed series largely owes its existence to the huge following that Twilight has birthed.  With the CW recently coming up with The Vampire Diaries on its roster, one of its star Ian Somerhalder gives credit where it‘s due.  The Lost alumnus plays the bad vampire brother Damon Salvatore on the upcoming series."[Twilight] is a huge phenomenon," he tells MTV News. "Quite possibly and inarguably, yes [we have a show because of it], so I‘m not going to complain. I haven‘t seen [Twilight] yet, so I don‘t know how it compares, but yeah, it‘s good that they‘re around." Read more »
I know you all have been dying to hear who will be at this year‘s Comic Con. I have some good news for all the Twilight and Supernatural fans out there. Although guest lists haven‘t been confirmed yet, both camps will be present for panels, which is no surprise. Other Comic Con essentials confirmed are Chuck, Lost, Fringe, True Blood, Smallville, Vampire Diaries, and the new Peter Jackson flick District 9. Check out our tentative TV panel schedule and our confirmed show list:  Read more »
It‘s time to mark your calendars, because the CW has announced the premiere dates for its fall shows.  As they did last season, the CW is bringing out most of its shows earlier than the other networks to try and earn some loyal viewers before they get a chance to see everything else. The big news is that the CW has decided to switch its Monday shows, so now One Tree Hill will air at 8pm and Gossip Girl is being pushed back to 9pm.  The news is great for Gossip Girl, as now it‘s not up against House and Heroes., but instead against Lie to Me and the new drama Trauma. Read more »
While we have a long way to go before The Vampire Diaries premieres on the CW, perhaps it‘s safe to say that fans of vampire-themed franchises can‘t wait to sink their teeth into the upcoming series; and debating whether you‘ll really like it or not is moot at this point since no one has really seen the show.Perhaps to assuage the thirst of fans, however, the CW has released an extended trailer - more than five minutes long - giving potential Vampire Diaries viewers a chance to take a longer look at the highly anticipated series. Read more »
While everything may look set for The Vampire Diaries‘ premiere in the fall, one of its stars may need to head over from Mystic Falls to Hawaii to revisit an old show.Ian Somerhalder, who plays evil vampire brother Damon Salvatore on the upcoming CW series, tells TV Guide that there‘s a "large or decent" chance that he‘ll be back on the ABC series Lost for its final season.  He starred on the hit sci-fi series‘ debut season as Boone Carlyle, stepbrother of Maggie Grace‘s Shannon Rutherford, who is also rumored to be making a return. Read more »
There‘s no denying that vampires are sexier than ever.  With True Blood season 2 going strong, the Twilight sequel New Moon on the horizon, and new shows like the CW‘s Vampire Diaries, it‘s a great time to be a vampire, and as all women know, there‘s nothing more alluring than an undead man.Everyhot vampire leaves normal girls filled with passion, and now you canfind out which vampire really gets your motor running with BuddyTV‘snewest personality quiz, Who is Your Vampire Soulmate? Read more »
The Saturday and Sunday Comic-Con schedules were released over the weekend. I thought things would get really good on Saturday, but the list is less than impressive. I suppose with four full days of Comic-Con, you can spread out the really big panels. Once again, below is a list of our picks for the day. Check it out and if you see anything missing, check the full list here. One thing I‘m curious about is the Chuck panel. Why is it at 10am? Doesn‘t Chuck deserve one of the better time slots? Wouldn‘t NBC push for a better panel time? Chuck already had some struggles last season, but this season promises to kick-ass and the new kung fu twist is perfect for the Comic-Con fans. I stand perplexed. Either way, it looks like I‘ll be spending my morning with a donut, cup of coffee and my favorite show Chuck.Check out our list of picks below. Check out the other schedules: Thursday Friday Sunday Read more »
First, let‘s get this out in the open: initial reports said that Supernatural and Smallville will have their panels on Sunday so don‘t freak out that the shows aren‘t included in the first two days.Other than that, Friday‘s schedule looks amazing. Although my TV favorites aren‘t on the list, my movie favorites are. There a a couple more timing conflicts and I‘m guessing that people are going to have to make some tough choices. When in doubt, stick with Whedon, Rodriguez, Cameron and Jackson.Below are my picks for Friday‘s schedule. Once again, it was hard to narrow down the list. Check out the full schedule here. The Vampire Diaries is the latest fang sensation sweeping through pop culture, as if the vampire genre hasn‘t been saturated enough. With the release of the movie Twilight and the HBO series True Blood, critics are bound to compare and deduce that this is yet another lame vampire series that takes the premise of its predecessors. But the people behind the CW show remains optimistic that it won‘t suck for viewers, especially young women. Why? Because "vampires are like bad boys with brains!" Read more »
In preparation for the premiere of The Vampire Diaries this fall, The CW has released several promotional photos to whet your appetite. Clearly, the network has been working hard for this fall‘s marketing campaign, and it looks like they‘re trying to pull off that super creepy sexy vibe young women are going crazy for these days.  According to Ian Somerhalder, who plays bad boy vampire Damon on The Vampire Diaries, co-star Nina Dobrev, who plays high school student Elena Gilbert, had never done a love scene on camera before. Still, he didn‘t go easy on her since "that would be way out of character." Read more »
There are many ways to market a new TV show, but The Vampire Diaries is definitely thinking outside the box by partnering with the American Red Cross to sponsor Vampire Diaries-themed blood drives at more than 230 high schools and colleges across the country over the next several weeks.  Read more »
"I get it. Blood makes you squeamish," Elena Gilbert says in the new video of The Vampire Diaries. The clip doesn‘t reveal any major spoiler plots and it doesn‘t feature a lot of new material to begin with. But it‘s a pretty good excuse to see the beautiful stars of this CW vampire series.  The trailer kicks off with Elena (Nina Dobrev) talking with a friend as set their sights on new guy Stefan (Paul Wesley). They‘re obviously attracted to each other and seeing them eventually talking validates their hot chemistry even more. Meanwhile. Elena isn‘t the only one who wants a piece of Stefan because it looks like a blonde girl named Caroline Truitt (Candice Accola) is also on queue.   Read more »
For those of you that don‘t know, I‘m a huge fan of Degrassi: The Next Generation. Imagine my utter delight when I got to interview Nina Dobrev who played Mia Jones in the Canadian television staple. More respectably, I was also a huge Everwood fan. Although he had a smaller part, Paul Wesley‘s Tommy Callahan still stole my heart when he stole Emily Van Camp‘s Amy Abbott away from protagonist Ephram Brown. And did you know that Paul was also in American Dreams? He played Tommy DeFelice. Remember? These two were hitting up my television favorites before I was old enough and wise enough to write about TV for a living. I made a point to catch up with them both at the Entertainment Weekly and SyFy Comic-Con party in San Diego earlier this year. Read more »
For the past several weeks, we‘ve been putting the spotlight on Elena (Nina Dobrev), Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder). But The Vampire Diaries has other personalities that are just as intriguing. After the tree main characters, you‘d probably want to set your sights on Elena‘s younger brother, Jeremy. He‘s also one of the regulars, which means he‘s got a lot of layers to uncover and he‘s on every episode of the show.    Read more »
Almost every school has one and Mystic Falls High School is no exception. On The Vampire Diaries, Candice Accola makes her debut as a series regular as the manipulative Caroline Forbes, the nemesis of former friend Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev). As we get to know Damon Salvatore on The Vampire Diaries, we may see some traces of humanity in him, giving viewers yet another reason to root for the wicked vampire. But overall, he‘ll pretty much stick with the callousness we first saw in the premiere for the duration of the series, hinting that there‘s no telling how far he‘ll interfere in Elena and Stefan‘s relationship."He sticks with it for a little while," Ian Somerhalder, who plays evil brother Damon, told Eonline.com of his character lingering in the dark side. "I think that‘s his thing, and he has such a good time doing it. Matt and Caroline aren‘t exactly characters I‘d like to see hook up with each other on The Vampire Diaries. I like Caroline right off the bat, largely because she‘s fun, quirky and she reminds me off another shallow young vamp from another show. On the other hand, Matt, though easy on the eyes, is just plain boring. But after seeing how Matt struggled to get over Elena and seeing what he went through with sister Vicky, not to mention how Damon effortlessly manipulated Caroline, I‘m now willing to give these two a chance.  Read more »

A vampire series wouldn‘t be great if it didn‘t have a lot of good looking actors who are more than willing to bare some skin. Luckily, The Vampire Diaries is a show that has lots of hot cast members and plenty of nudity, at least that‘s what Ian Somerhalder hints for the rest of the season.Though I‘m sure a lot of Vampire Diaries fans won‘t have a problem with Stefan or Damon flaunting their gorgeous bodies, viewers shouldn‘t expect anything close to True Blood‘s raunchy themes and scenes. Still, there‘s comfort in knowing that there will be a lot of "sexy stuff" for the rest of the season.  Read more »

The CW announced early renewals for next season, and one of the more surprising picks is Supernatural.  The show will officially be back for a sixth season despite creator Eric Kripke‘s original five-year plan for the series.  While Erick Kripke will be back, EW‘s Michael Ausiello is reporting that Kripke will no longer be the showrunner.  He will stay on to work on Supernatural, but according to Ausiello, writer Sera Gamble will take over showrunner duties. In addition to Supernatural, the CW has also renewed America‘s Next Top Model, The Vampire Diaries, 90210 and Gossip Girl.  The first two are hardly surprising since The Vampire Diaries and ANTM are the networks two highest-rated shows, but the others are a bit surprising.  Read more »

In between the introduction of a house full of vampires recently released from the Tomb and the world‘s worst double date starring Matt, Caroline, Elena and Stefan, The Vampire Diaries was all about Jeremy Gilbert. The sweet younger brother of Elena has been sidelined since having his memory wiped of Vicki, but his relationship with Anna took one giant leap forward when he finally put two and two together and discovered that she‘s a vampire.  It feels like he came to that conclusion a lot faster than Elena did with Stefan.  Read more »
Romance is in the air as The Vampire Diaries continues to focus on Elena and Stefan, and two other budding relationships. Up to now, Stefan has been a relatively boring character on The Vampire Diaries.  He‘s the White Knight, the relentless do-gooder who saves the day and gets the girl every week.  But now, Stefan is turning to the dark side, which is the best thing that could‘ve happened to him.In this episode of The Vampire Diaries, old wounds were opened.  For Jeremy and Matt it came in the form of the discovery of Vicki‘s body, which will open a can of worms Damon, Stefan and Elena hoped would remain closed.  The bombshell also offered the chance to understand Jeremy‘s true motivations for wanting to turn into a vampire (to be with Vicki, not Anna) and it saw the reappearance of the Lockwoods.  Read more »

What‘s in store for the final four episodes of the first season of The Vampire Diaries?  Don‘t worry, there won‘t be aliens, though star Matt Davis, who plays vampire-slaying history teacher Alaric Saltzman, did recently have a close encounter of the strange kind.I spoke to the elder statesman of The Vampire Diaries (at almost 32, he‘s technically the oldest series regular) about Alaric‘s relationship with Damon, his reunion with Isobel, getting killed off, and a very elaborate alien prank someone on the set is pulling on him.  Read more »

If there‘s one thing The Vampire Diaries has thought us, it‘s that Mystic Falls is a town rich in secrets. This week, everyone seems to be hiding something from someone, whether it‘s Elena concealing the truth about Vicki‘s death to Jeremy, Stefan denying his monster of a drinking problem to his girlfriend and brother Damon or Uncle John Gilbert, who remains to be one big question mark.  Read more »
Will Anna turn Jeremy into a vampire? Hopefully, we‘ll find out in this week‘s episode The Vampire Diaries entitled "Let The Right One In." So far, Jeremy has been sidelined to make room for other major storylines, including Katherine, the tomb and Elena‘s birthmother, but the arrival of Anna in his life has made the idea of Jeremy‘s turning possible, and this consequently puts him in the spotlight. Here‘s why. Read more »
If there‘s one person who could get on Elena‘s nerves, it‘s Damon. Aside from the fact that he turned her birthmother into a vampire, he‘s also a self-serving psychopath with no redeeming qualities, well at least in the eyes of Elena. In the next episode of The Vampire Diaries, we‘ll get to see more of Elena‘s snarky attitude whenever Damon‘s around but you can check out the clip after the jump for a sneak peek. Read more »
The Vampire Diaries is officially back with answers and tons of new mysteries, proving that this series is well worth the long wait. Hopefully, tonight‘s episode entitled "A Few Good Men" will shed light on the repercussions of the events that transpired in "Fool Me Once," including the aftermath of Grams‘ death, the aftermath of opening the tomb and the aftermath of Damon‘s discovery that Katherine wasn‘t in the tomb and no longer cared about him.Catch up on the last episode of The Vampire Diaries here. Read more »
Tonight‘s episode of The Vampire Diaries marks the last new installment of the series before it takes a five-week hiatus. While the news of a long break is a big bummer, there‘s comfort in knowing that the 14th episode will answer a lot of our burning questions and leave us with enough mysteries and twists to chew on while waiting for The Vampire Diaries to return in March. Read more »
Just when you thought the story on The Vampire Diaries was asrich and complex as possible, things get a lot more interesting.  In1864, there are a ton of revelations, mostly that Damon really did loveand want Katherine to turn him.  Also, Anna is the daughter of an oldvampire friend of Katherine‘s named Pearl who is one of the other 26vampires in the Tomb.In the present, there are just as many big twists.  Alaric tells Stefanabout what Damon did to his wife.  Damon learns the truth about Anna. And Stefan tracks down Emily‘s spellbook in his father‘s grave, onlyDamon takes it.  That probably won‘t matter since hunky bartender Benkidnaps Bonnie after she finds out he‘s a vampire and Anna kidnapsElena.  I say this every week, but The Vampire Diaries continues to impress me.  More happens in every episode than happens in an entire season of most shows.  Read more »
One of the many things I love about The Vampire Diaries is the dense, rich backstory from 1864.  "Children of the Damned" was the secondepisode to provide flashbacks into the time the Salvatore brothers fellin love with the vampire Katherine, and it just added more mysteriesand more mythology to the series.  At this point, The Vampire Diaries could spend an entire season in 1864 and I‘d be happy. The latest trip introduced the vampire Pearl and her daughter Annabel(aka present-day Anna), a duo working with Katherine in Mystic Falls. Knowing that Pearl is one of the 26 other vampires in Katherine‘s Tombopens the door to one major question: who are the other 25?  Read more »
The Vampire Diaries sheds light on what caused the rift in Damon and Stefan‘s relationship with the flashback episode "Children of the Damned." Tonight, more secrets about Mystic Falls will be revealed, including the Salvatore family history, when Stefan and Damon recall the events that transpired in the year 1864.   Read more »
If you enjoyed all the shocking twists in last week‘s episode, then you‘ll love what The Vampire Diaries has in store for you in "Children of the Damned," an installment where we go back in time yet again. After all, any flashback episode involving vampires is just plain fun to watch.  Read more »
The Vampire Diaries had a ton of huge twists and revelations in thelatest episode, including several new vampires who are just asinterested in opening Katherine‘s Tomb as Damon is.  But perhaps themost surprising twist came when Aunt Jenna realized that Isobel, AlaricSaltzman‘s wife who was killed by Damon, is Elena‘s mother. This curveball complicates matters on The Vampire Diaries by alot, adding to the intense soap opera-style storylines.  It adds plentyof layers to the series.  Stefan tried to save Elena‘s parents whileDamon killed one.  Just when Damon was starting to seem like a goodguy, this horrible act is made even worse.  And most importantly, therevelation of Elena‘s mother adds about a thousand questions into themix.  Read more »
I‘m not sure how The Vampire Diaries does it, but the shockingtwists continue to pile up with several "Holy Crap!" moments in everyepisode.  This week, we get three new vampire revelations, a tie toKatherine, and the identity of Elena‘s biological mother.First, we meet the mystery vampire who caused Elena‘s car crash.  He‘sNoah, but he‘s dead by the end of this episode thanks to Stefan andDamon channeling their inner Jack Bauer.  Using their enhancedinterrogation techniques, they learn that Noah is also working on a wayto open Katherine‘s Tomb, because she had more friends than just theSalvatores. Read more »
Looks like everyone‘s a sucker for a decade-themed high school dance, and that includes the characters of The Vampire Diaries. Tonight there‘s a 1950s dance party in Mystic Falls and you‘re all invited to enjoy the colorful costumes and music, not to mention the mystery that‘s about to unfold when Stefan and Damon attempt to figure out the identity of the new vampire in town. To catch up on last week‘s episode, read our recap of "Elena and Damon‘s Excellent Adventure." Read more »
The hardest working person at The Vampire Diaries might be thecostume designer.  Forgetting about the modern clothes (which, thankfully, Stefan and Damon don‘t wear that often), the show also hasperiod flashbacks to the 1860s and now, the kids are going to a ‘50sdance.In next week‘s episode, "Unpleasantville," the school throws a ‘50sstyle dance, giving everyone the chance to play dress up.  But thatdoesn‘t help uncomplicated matters for Elena, who apparently has twodates.  Check out two new video clips from the episode below.  Read more »
The Vampire Diaries is a lot like 24, and not just because Paul Wesleyappeared on both shows this week.  While every new character introducedon 24 is instantly under scrutiny as a mole, every new Vampire Diaries character is a possible vampire.Such is the case with Anna, the awkward home schooled girl Jeremyflirted with in the library.  This new girl comes out of nowhere, isallegedly "home schooled" and has an intense interest in vampiremythology and old family journals.  Read more »
The Vampire Diaries had a huge start in 2009 with great ratings,a loyal fan base and a People‘s Choice Award for Favorite New Drama. Can the show keep that momentum up in 2010?Yes, and that is almost entirely due to Ian Somerhalder.  Thedelightful joy he takes in playing the sinister but charming DamonSalvatore is getting stronger as The Vampire Diaries realizes he‘s the real star of this show. Read more »
The Vampire Diaries is officially back and what better way to celebrate the first episode of the new year than to bring in new faces, new alliances and new supernatural adventures.  You‘ve probably already heard a lot of spoilers and speculations about what‘s in store for "Bloodlines," the 11th episode of the series. After the jump, you‘ll find two recently released clips by the CW that give you an idea on what brought these characters who rarely hang out together.   Read more »
The Vampire Diaries can‘t come any sooner but at least, we can get a sneak peek at what‘s to come when the show returns with new episodes beginning January 21. As some of you many know, The Vampire Diaries will kick off the new year with a very Damon and Elena-centric story--- which is not really that surprising considering how things left off between Elena and Stefan.Warning: Spoilers ahead! Read more »
The Vampire Diaries closed out the first half of the season with plentyof turning points.  Stefan and Elena finally had sex, Damon learnedthat there‘s someone else trying to open Katherine‘s tomb, and mostshocking of all, Elena was in a horrific car accident. While driving away from Stefan after learning she looks exactly likeKatherine, his former lover, she encountered a shadowy figure in themiddle of the road and flipped her car about 23 times.  Miraculously, she remained conscious after the trauma, but the real bad news camewhen she saw the person she hit put his or her bones back into placeand walked ominously towards Elena.  Read more »
The last episode of The Vampire Diaries in 2009 definitely hadplenty of turning points, as the episode‘s title suggested.  Elena hadtwo major turning points, Damon had one, Jeremy and Tyler had one, Mattand Caroline had one and even Alaric had one.And if you count death, I suppose Logan had one too.  The Vampire Diaries had plenty for everyone, unless you‘re a Bonnie fan.  Then you got screwed because she wasn‘t in the episode at all. Read more »
We won‘t be seeing Damon, Stefan, Elena and the rest of the townies of Mystic Falls for several weeks so we can expect the mid-season finale of The Vampire Diaries to leave us with enough lingering mysteries to sink our teeth into while we wait for the show‘s return in January. A lot of weird things have already happened so far, including Bonnie being possessed by Emily, the arrival of the mysterious Alaric Saltzman and dead Logan coming back to life, but "The Turning Point" ups the ante as it introduces Stefan and Damon‘s new competition and gives us more insight on the town‘s founding families. Read more »

Just when you thought The Vampire Diaries had run out of twistsand turns, last night‘s episode proved there‘s an endless supply ofshocks for fans.  First was the revelation that Damon was trying tobring Katherine and 26 other vampires back to life for a killing spree, then Damon bit Bonnie when she burned the necklace, and finally, theepisode ended with Aunt Jenna‘s dead ex-boyfriend Logan coming back, invampire form. Those are just some of the reasons, The Vampire Diaries climbedto new heights last night with more than 4.5 million viewers, thehighest since the season premiere.  While other shows drop in viewersevery week, The Vampire Diaries had been in a steady climb for the past four episodes, but in terms of viewers and quality.  Read more »

History seems to always repeat itself in the world of vampire lore and The Vampire Diaries is no different. In tonight‘s episode, we learn more about the mystery behind the coveted medallion and the real reason why Damon returned to Mystic Falls. After witnessing all the odd twists and turns in the last couple of episodes, including the recent death of vampire Lexi, we‘re inclined to believe more than ever that anything can really happen on The Vampire Diaries. "History Repeating" takes us back to Emily‘s past as Caroline, Bonnie and Elena hold a seance to invoke Emily‘s spirit to help them decide what to do with the medallion, which has put a wedge in Bonnie and Caroline‘s friendship. I hope this doesn‘t become a pattern.  The Vampire Diaries introduced another new female vampire in last night‘s episode, but by the end, she was dead.  What a waste of over 300 years. This marked the second consecutive episode of The Vampire Diaries in which a Salvatore brother stakes another vampire.  I guess they really want to be the only ones in Mystic Falls.  Read more »

Now that the minx of Mystic Falls is gone, it‘s time to deal with the aftermath of Damon‘s little mess in the eighth episode of The Vampire Diaries entitled "162 Candles." Although Damon has erased Jeremy‘s memories and planted new ones so he won‘t remember that Vicki turned into a vampire, tried to attack him and Elena and then was killed by Stefan with a wooden stake, Vicki‘s brother Matt knows that something‘s seriously wrong with his sister so he‘s not going to just accept that she left town and won‘t be back.  Read more »

The Vampire Diaries celebrated Halloween with an episode sure to dividefans.  While the first six episodes were all building up to a greatboil, the show made one big change this week by killing off a major andbeloved character, for real. The episode explored Vicki‘s newfound vampire abilities while everyone around her worried about what was happening.  The Vampire Diarieshad more great lines, witty Damon moments, and just a little bit ofBonnie‘s witchy adventure to move her story forward a tiny bit more. But here are my five favorite moments, all of which include my twofavorite characters, Vicki and Damon. Read more »
The Vampire Diaries certainly shocked viewers by killing off newvampire Vicki on last night‘s episode, but that‘s not what was supposedto happen.  In a new interview with EW‘s Michael Ausiello, Kayla Ewell, who played Vicki, revealed the real story behind her character‘s death. In the interview, she said that the original draft had Jeremy killingVicki in order to protect his sister.  They even filmed that scene,Ewell left town, and a week later the producers called her back toreshoot the ending we saw with Stefan as the killer.  Read more »
The Vampire Diaries came back stronger than ever with a fantasticHalloween-themed episode, a huge shocking twist, and 4.2 millionviewers, a new best since the season premiere.  But the moment stuck ineveryone‘s minds was the sudden and shocking death of Vicki.  Only thistime, it was for real.In the last episode, Damon bit Vicki and turned her into a vampire, boosting the character and giving Vicki a major role in the series.  Itlooked like she would become a leading lady, and the whole episodefocused on how she adapted to her new afterlife life.  But then sheturned, biting Jeremy while making out with him and then attackingElena, forcing Stefan to shove a stake through her heart, endingVicki‘s fantastic run.  Read more »
Stefan finally came out as a vampire and Damon got his awesome strengthback on The Vampire Diaries, but this episode wasn‘t about the boyvampires.  Sure, they‘re very, very pretty to look at, but now it‘stime for the lady vampires to shine, because for the first time, thereARE lady vampires! The Vampire Diaries decided to up the ante by using flashbacks to 1864(complete with totally inauthentic dialogue and absolutely no Southernaccents) and by making one of the series regulars turn into a vampire. As if that wasn‘t cool enough, it‘s also my favorite non-Damoncharacter.  And the fantastic streak of randomly killing off minorrecurring characters continues!  Read more »

After five painfully long episodes of The Vampire Diaries, ElenaGilbert finally grew a brain and realized there‘s something off abouther boyfriend Stefan Salvatore: he‘s a vampire.  It was one of thoseclassic "No duh" TV moments, but also quite cool because it means theshow can stop being about secrets and lies and start being aboutkick-ass vampires and the women who love them. But why did it take Elena so long to figure out that Stefan is undead.  Didn‘t she realize the title of her show is The Vampire Diaries? Perhaps it was just a lack of general awareness.  So to help preventany women from suffering Elena‘s fate, here are six simple clues thatthe man you‘re dating is actually a vampire.  Read more »
If there‘s one thing I‘ve learned from The Vampire Diaries, it‘s that you can‘t keep a bad guy down for long, much less a hot wicked vampire. So how can Damon possibly breakout of the Salvatore basement? We find out tonight in the episode "You‘re Undead To Me." But before anything else, here‘s what happened so far: Elena and Stefan went to the town‘s annual Founder‘s Party where Damon gave Elena a history lesson about the Salvatores. Elena then confronted Stefan but he refused to open up about anything in his life, leading Elena to think that Damon‘s right. With the help of Zach, Stefan spiked Damon‘s date Caroline and now has him locked in a cellar, while we learned that Caroline‘s mom, Jenna‘s ex and Tyler‘s parents are all part of a secret council on the lookout for vampires. It‘s Thursday and we‘re all cordially invited to witness the fun as Damon (Ian Somerhalder) tries to ruin Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Stefan‘s (Paul Wesley) first official date. After a few bites and squabbles on last week‘s "Friday Night Bites" episode, The Vampire Diaries will offer a glimpse into the Salvatore family‘s past as Elena asks Stefan to accompany her to the town‘s annual Founder‘s Party, where we see them kissing and dancing.  Read more »
We‘re only three episodes into The Vampire Diaries, and already I have characters who I love and characters who I hate.  I love Damon and Caroline...and that‘s pretty much it.My problem with the rest of the cast of The Vampire Diariesisn‘t that they‘re awful characters, just that they are incrediblystupid.  They all exhibit clear signs of idiocy, and if they could justcure themselves of this one ailment, they‘d be a lot better.  Read more »
Tonight, Damon and Caroline take the spotlight on The Vampire Diaries which should be a refreshing change after the all the cheesy and painfully boring courtship between Stefan and Elena. And judging from how things went down last episode, in which Damon bit Caroline during some hot bedroom action, I bet things could only get better from here. Read more »
Next week‘s episode of The Vampire Diaries, titled "Friday NightBites," is allegedly about Stefan joining the school‘s football team. But based on these two new clips from the episode, the real story isthe utterly fantastic relationship between Damon and Caroline. As the title suggests, I‘m officially declaring them the new Spike andHarmony, and unless you were brain-dead during the past decade, youknow that would be the bad boy vampire played by James Marsters and hisperky blonde cheerleader girlfriend played by Mercedes McNab on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  Read more »
Dear Vampire Diary,The second episode of The Vampire Diaries means twice the angst, twice the sexiness and because both Stefan and Elena get to narrate, twice as many pretentious voiceovers as Grey‘s Anatomy.  It‘s kind of like if Meredith Grey were in love with a boy version of herself. However, all their staring and brooding and allegedly "epic" romance isdull, even when they share their diary entries before having apassionate kiss.  In the words of Meredith Grey, "Seriously?" Read more »
There‘s no telling how far Damon would go to get what he wants but it‘s pretty clear from the pilot episode of The Vampire Diaries that he‘s dead serious in making Stefan‘s life miserable, whether it means letting Stefan take the blame for a recent attack or coming in between Stefan and his love interest Elena. And it looks as though the love triangle officially begins tonight in the episode called "The Night of the Comet." Read more »
After getting the highest premiere rating in the CW‘s short history, The Vampire Diariesis off to a fast start, but can the second episode keep up thatmomentum?  The CW released two clips from the episode that hope toanswer that question as we see what kind of show The Vampire Diaries will become. Read more »
One of the best things about being a teenage girl in love with avampire is that there‘s probably a second, equally hot vampire who isalso in love with you.  Such is the "dilemma" for Elena on The Vampire Diaries.  Yes, she is clearly in love with Stefan from the start, but things aren‘t always that simple. As we know, a girl who looked just like Elena a long time ago once camebetween the Salvatore brothers, and both were hopelessly in love withher.  Already Damon has developed a disturbing fascination with Elena, but is that a road you want to see her go down, or are you firmly inthe Stelena camp?  Read more »
The ratings are in, and it looks like vampires aren‘t going anywhere.  Last night‘s series premiere of the CW‘s The Vampire Diaries was watched by 4.8 million viewers, and that‘s without any additional DVR numbers.Just how big is that for the CW?  It‘s on par with last year‘s much-hyped premiere of 90210, which was the CW‘s highest-rated premiere ever.  However, I suspect the fall-off into the second week won‘t be as huge, since The Vampire Diaries doesn‘t suck nearly as much as that did.  Read more »
Dear Diary,There‘s some crazy stuff going on in The Vampire Diaries. Thistown, Mystic Falls, seems like an average place where all the"teenagers" are ridiculously hot with outrageously fantasticvocabularies, and they‘re all somehow connected to each other throughvarious hook-ups and family ties.  In other words, it‘s just like Dawson‘s Creek. But then there‘s this new kid and he‘s totally my brand of heroin.  Helooks a bit like that Robert Pattinson guy, only with more manageablehair.  His name is Stefan Salvatore, the dreamy and mysterious new kidin town, only he‘s not a kid, he‘s a centuries-old vampire!  Read more »
Is it really worth all the hype? We find out tonight as The Vampire Diaries makes its debut at 8pm right before Supernatural returns for its fifth season on The CW. I admit I have my doubts about this show simply because it gives me the impression that I‘m watching some vampire flick rip-off with a hint of Dawson‘s Creek ---no offense to Dawson‘s Creek fans. Somehow, after all the preview clips and mostly positive reviews, I‘ve decide to give it try and I‘m now inclined to believe that it‘s not all bad. Read more »

We‘ve seen the down side of what human blood can do to Stefan in "Miss Mystic Falls" but there‘s also a silver lining amidst this whole ordeal. For one thing, it makes room for more adorable Elena-Damon moments. But more importantly, Stefan‘s addiction takes us back to the 1860s--which is always a good thing on The Vampire Diaries.    Read more »
