After portraying succubus Andi Bates on The Gates, Skyler Samuels returns to the small screen to take on yet another supernatural character. This time, however, she‘s the lead star on The Nine Lives of Chloe King, which premieres tonight at 9/8c on ABC Family. As Chloe King, a descendant of a super-human ancient race with cat-like abilities, Samuels has plenty to say about her character, the similarities they have, and what viewers can expect for the rest of the first season. I‘ve become used to TV shows using traditional mythology and well-known fantasy stories. With all of the shows about vampires and werewolves, I assumed there was nothing new to do, but then ABC Family‘s The Nine Lives of Chloe King came into my life, and I was surprised.A lot of the story may seem incredibly cliche, but the central supernatural element is anything but. On her 16th birthday, Chloe King (Skyler Samuels) starts to develop superb balance, supersonic hearing and deadly claws. Basically, she‘s a cat.  Read more »

Monday I completed the final path in the Nine Paths Prophecy, but the Nine Lives of Chloe King game wasn‘t really over. There was still one item left from the box I received three weeks ago that needed explaining: an infant‘s shoe. Everything became clear at the end of last night‘s premiere episode of The Nine Lives of Chloe King. At the beginning of "Pilot," Chloe and her mom celebrate her sixteenth birthday over some cake. We get some back story of Chloe‘s life and parents, finding out she was adopted and her father left over ten years ago. Chloe wants to know more about where she came from but her mom tells her there are no documents or papers because things just weren‘t done like that back then in the Ukraine.  Read more »

Comic-Con is nearly upon us.  This means that all the TV related tweets you follow will have #SDCC after them, standing for "San Diego Comic-Con."  The Nine Lives of Chloe King is an ABC Family show in its infancy, but it‘s gaining popularity with each episode, and will no doubt continue obtaining viewers after a panel at Comic-Con.  Many of the cast members could brush up on their comics and couldn‘t name some that they liked, but every cast member could name some television shows that they loved. So what shows and comics do each of the actors love? And what are their true television obsessions? BuddyTV recently had the opportunity to ask while on the Nine Lives set. Skyler Samuels (Chloe King)Comics: Never been big into comic books, but always interested in the medium. What can we recommend to her?Television shows: Family Guy and GleeRelated: Check out who is coming to BuddyTV‘s Obsessions panel at Comic-Con>> Read more »
A teenage girl finds out she has super powers.  Her father isn‘t around and she has a close relationship with her mother and two best friends, a guy and a girl.  She also, suddenly, has her pick of cute guys: one human, and one supernatural.  Sound familiar circa 1997?  Don‘t worry, Buffy fans.  I‘ve spoken to the actors of The Nine Lives of Chloe King and they are fully aware of the similarities between the series‘ and are only interested in paying tribute to the cult favorite that is Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  So if Chloe is parallel to Buffy, and Amy is Willow, Paul is Xander, and Meredith, Chloe mom is parallel to Joyce. And what about the men that are interested in Chloe?  Brian reminds me of a Riley type, from seasons 4-6.  As for Alek, there are some striking similarities between him and Angel, starting with the fact that he protects Chloe at the beginning of their relationship, but does have a rather mysterious quality that makes us as viewers, and Chloe, want to find out more.  But who exactly is the big bad here?   After the second episode, an assassin on the scene was killed by Valentina, Jasmine‘s mom, leader of the San Francisco Mai. Obviously people are out to destroy Chloe‘s kind, the Mai, but will the series come out with one true villain?  Is Brian‘s dad the one pulling all the strings?   Read more »
Here‘s your BuddyTV High Five: The five big moments and questions from tonight‘s episode of The Nine Lives of Chloe King, "Nothing Compares 2 U." So this episode deals with romantic relationships! Alek‘s jealous of Chloe‘s ‘friendship‘ with Brian, even though he has some new Mai girl. Chloe‘s maybe jealous of Alek when she sees them together. Momma King (can I call her Queen?) is happy dating a new beau from work. Chloe‘s ‘empathy hitting‘ Amy‘s new beau Jonah, who feels guilty because he cheats in a dangerous, underground poker ring. Naturally, Amy wants excitement so she goes with him and has to call Paul and Chloe to rescue her. Brian‘s dad is banging Brian‘s new supervisor, the red head Simone. Chloe and Brian attend some art galla; Chloe is stunning in a red dress, where they each run off to do their own thing. Brian admits he might be falling love with Chloe, Chloe rejects Brian and cries. I cry. The end. (I don‘t actually cry, but I am sad for them!)  Read more »

Another crazy week has gone past this flat-screen in front of me. (Of all of us, really.) Ashley got tired of the him-or-him? question and settled for a cupcake. Welcome to August, or as I‘d like to call it, that awkward moment between summer and fall. It‘s that time of the year when summer shows wrap up (in this week‘s case, So You Think You Can Dance and White Collar), not-so-summer shows start up (Bachelor Pad), and others just go on as usual (Big Brother and True Blood). In other words, it‘s been a busy week. But you knew I‘d say that, yes? Read more »
Sometimes, a TV female gets to that point where she‘d rather wish for a parallel universe just to avoid The Big Decision That Will Shape The Show‘s Romantic Storyline. Usual endings involve picking one and missing the other too much, cheating on both men, or fleeing.  Read more »

Pilot season in full swing. For the uninitiated, this is the time when the networks agree to make pilots for a whole bunch of shows to see which ones will make it onto the schedule for the 2013-2014 season. Most pilots will never see the light of day, but a select few will become the shows you will be in love with one year from now. Here I‘m going to look at what the CW has on tap, because more than any other network, it needs some fresh blood. With Gossip Girl and 90210 ending this year and Cult knocking at death‘s door, the CW‘s fall schedule has a ton of holes.  Read more »
