The New Normal hasn‘t even aired yet but the show has become a subject of controversy these days. The organization One Million Moms has called for the boycott of the series for its depiction of a gay couple who uses a surrogate to have a baby, and is determined to contact advertisers if the series pushes through its premiere-- a similar strategy used by the Parents Television Council when they targeted The Playboy Club, which was canceled by NBC after only three episodes due to lack of sponsors and poor ratings. Read more »

If Twitter was an Olympic event, Ryan Murphy would be a serious contender for the gold medal. The co-creator of Glee, American Horror Story and The New Normal joined the social networking site a little over a week ago (@MrRPMurphy), but already he has mastered Twitter‘s ability to rally the fans. It hasn‘t aired yet, but some people already want The New Normal gone. Unfortunately for the show, those people might get their wish. One Million Moms, the PTC and the rest might not have anything substantial to do with The New Normal‘s possible failure. But they will still claim it as a victory. I wanted to like The New Normal. With good actors, an interesting premise and lots of promotion, Ryan Murphy‘s new NBC comedy sounded like a winner. It‘s not. The New Normal is terrible. And I shudder to think what harm this show could do to homosexual rights and to comedy. It‘s really that bad. Read more »

Hurricane Sandy continues to wreak havoc on TV. Following a Monday night where CBS and the CW aired reruns due to coverage of the East Coast storm, NBC and ABC announced that Tuesday night will bump some of their scheduled new episodes to cover the hurricane.  Read more »

When history looks back at the 2012-2013 TV season, it might be considered the year the sitcom died. Sure, there are massive hits like The Big Bang Theory that are getting monstrous ratings and Emmy-winning favorites like Modern Family, but those victories only underscore the many, many defeats the genre has suffered.  Read more »
After continually struggling in the ratings during its current season, it should come as no surprise that NBC will be moving Smash to Saturday nights at 9pm starting April 6. Saturday, as we know, is the night that networks usually burn off remaining episodes of shows that are effectively cancelled. The good news for Smash fans is that NBC will air all of the remaining season 2 episodes, though I guess the network didn‘t want to let The Voice try to prop it up during the rest of its duration. Read more »
