Articles for The Mentalist Season 2

I remember watching the Emmys over the weekend, and seeing Simon Baker present an award.  I know he‘s Australian, but I can‘t get used to hearing him with an Australian accent, and a pretty thick one, too.  How does he do it?Maybe I should go explore his speech patterns.  But that‘s a different show altogether.  Read more »
Is it just me, or is there going to be a bit more tension on The Mentalist this season?Never mind the Rigsby-Van Pelt story.  It‘s time to explore whatever it is between Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon!  And perhaps about time, right?  He‘s annoying, she sticks to the rules, it got both of them into trouble, and then this Sam Bosco guy comes in, and riles up both of them.  No mention of Jane‘s hair.  No mention of Lisbon‘s past, either.  Read more »
Ladies and gents, meet Patrick Jane‘s dad.Entertainment Weekly‘s Michael Ausiello reports that Nick Chinlund is joining this season of The Mentalist for one episode, appearing in a series of flashbacks as Alex, the dad of that intrepid psychic-slash-BS-spotter played by Simon Baker.  Read more »
Just when we thought it‘s only Jane who‘s crazy, we realize that Lisbon can get crazy, too.  You might even want to call this the episode when Lisbon goes postal.Or maybe it‘s because Jane did something.  I don‘t know.  Read more »
Before we see whatever adverse effects Jane‘s nifty tactic of planting an electronic bug on Bosco‘s office--and trust me, there will be some--let‘s have some fun, shall we?On tonight‘s episode of The Mentalist, the team investigate the death of a lawyer.  Doesn‘t sound that exciting, sure.  But if this means them meeting one of California‘s most dangerous motorcycle gangs?  Read more »
Isn‘t it about time that Patrick Jane--former fake psychic turned CBI consultant, as he loves to insist--tackle something of the supernatural kind?I mean, think of his past day job.  "I see your dead husband," he‘d probably go, "and he‘s saying this and that and this and that."  And then he‘d piss off Red John and have him kill his wife and child, which led him to that psychiatrist, which led him here, and us, here.  Read more »
Cue one more familiar face in the upcoming season of 24: Gregory Itzin is confirmed to return to the show‘s eighth season as crazed former president Charles Logan.Entertainment Weekly‘s Michael Ausiello reports that Itzin, who currently holds a recurring role in the CBS drama The Mentalist, will return for a multi-episode arc at the tail-end of the upcoming season, which begins January 17.  The former president will return when the current president, Allison Taylor, reluctantly enlists him for help in an escalating diplomatic crisis. Read more »
I would‘ve begun this preview with the thought of the guy who plays Rev. Newlin on True Blood being the bad guy in last week‘s The Mentalist.  But no, I am distracted by this bigger thought: finally, Rigsby and Van Pelt made it official!  I mean, look at that!  Read more »
They‘ve long been hinting about a dark secret between Bosco and Lisbon.  He loves her?  Possibly.  Did they do something together?  Maybe--the parallels between that secret and the other secret between Rigsby and Van Pelt is just irresistible.  Did he kill someone, and she helped along, as Jane suggested?  Possibly.  But who really knows?  It did open a new can of worms to play with--and suddenly Bosco is not the good person he claims to be, not by the book when he had Jane arrested. But admittedly the most interesting bit from last week‘s episode was seeing Jane deal with a stint in jail.  Not surprisingly, he gets the favors of a handful of inmates, but still, it‘s funny how he did it, really.  Freak them out and just be friends with them?  Oh, Jane, you are classic.  Read more »
Are we on the verge of seeing that smile again? This season of The Mentalist has forced Jane to endure a disconnect with the Red John case--and of course, it‘s an uncomfortable thing, especially if you have a very personal stake in the serial killer you‘re pursuing. They‘ve had some luck before, but thanks to his tendencies and other past events, the case was passed on to Bosco.  Read more »
Just two days after the Golden Globe nominations, the Screen ActorsGuild nominations were this morning, and the TV results are a mixedbag.  The awards are a bit less experimental than the Globes, nominating old favorites like Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Charlie Sheen, but they also have a little bit of new mixed in as well.  Glee and Modern Family both earned noms for their ensembles while The Good Wife picked up nominations for both Julianna Margulies and the ensemble.  Read more »

I think I‘ve gotten so used to seeing Gregory Itzin play the bad guy on television that I can‘t imagine him doing otherwise. He was, of course, sleazy former president Charles Logan on 24. And sure, you can say his character on The Mentalist was on the right side of the law, but he was still not as supportive as you hoped he would have been.Well, here‘s the chance. Entertainment Weekly reports that Itzin is joining the USA Network series Covert Affairs as Henry Wilcox, the former Director of Clandestine Services and the father of Sendhil Ramamurthy‘s character. He will appear in a multi-episode arc on the new series.  Read more »
