Sam Winchester has been having a good year. Sure, it started off pretty badly -- almost going insane, fighting Leviathans and then losing his brother to Purgatory. Jared Padalecki shared a few clues during an interview on the set of Supernatural (visit courtesy of Warner Bros.). Read more »

If you watched the Supernatural season 8 premiere, you may have noticed an important absence -- Misha Collins‘ character of Castiel was nowhere to be seen. What does this mean for Castiel‘s future on Supernatural? Will he be back? Is he still in Purgatory? Why is he there at all? On a recent visit to the set of Supernatural (courtesy of Warner Bros.), we talked to Misha Collins about Castiel and the direction of season 8. Watch the video here. Read more »

Supernatural‘s new season feels like the show is getting back to basics. The season 8 premiere brings demons front and center as the main villains, a pleasant change of pace from the Leviathans, Alphas and Angels we‘re used to. Sam and Dean are reunited, but mentally and psychologically, they‘ve never been farther apart.  Read more »
I enjoy the CW. I think The Vampire Diaries is a genuinely great series, I still have fun watching Supernatural and I think Hart of Dixie is endlessly charming. I also think Arrow is the best new series of the fall. But I also think the CW is dying.  Read more »

This week Supernatural gets back to basics with a simple case that involves Mayan gods and people who eat hearts. It‘s pretty disgusting, but it all serves as a great, big metaphor for why Sam should NOT quit hunting. The problem is that he doesn‘t get the memo.  Read more »
The fourth episode of Supernatural‘s eighth season promises to be another of the show‘s great, stylistically unique ones. The majority of the action will be seen through the lens of a student film as a series of "animal attacks" hit a college campus.  Read more »
Supernatural has done werewolf episodes, but never quite like this. "Bitten" is the kind of outside-the-box, stylistically special episode that I love. Nearly the entire hour is told through found home movie footage by a bunch of film students at a college. It‘s basically Supernatural‘s take on The Blair Witch Project, Cloverfield and other similar movies.  Read more »

There‘s a whole lot going on in this week‘s Supernatural. The Trans are back and get caught by Crowley (again). Forget everything you think you know about Sam and Dean‘s family history, because this episode of Supernatural changes everything. This week on Supernatural the boys finally start to figure out how to close the Gates of Hell forever, only it‘s a three-step process. That means three different episodes, and part one is all about killing a Hellhound. It also sets the stage to decide which brother will complete the trials, Sam or Dean. Given that every big thing they‘ve ever done has ended with one of them dying, this opens up some old wounds and gives Sam and Dean a chance to give big, emotional speeches.  Read more »

Do you remember the early days of Supernatural when the boys would battle a ghost or a demon and it would be a big deal? Well, this week Sam and Dean casually decide to kill Zeus, the famous Greek god. Because apparently we‘ve reached the point where that isn‘t a big deal. Though after defeating Lucifer and preventing the End of Days, I suppose Zeus is small potatoes.  Read more »

Supernatural came back this week with a very, very big episode for season 8. It begins with Castiel killing Dean and ends with Cas beating the crap out of Dean. Naomi walks out to reveal this was all part of a test to make sure she can fully control Cas. We then see an entire warehouse full of dead Deans. Just in case you weren‘t sure Naomi was bad news, this pretty much seals the deal.  Read more »

Almost every episode of Supernatural season 8 seems like a backdoor pilot for a potential spin-off. We had the Nazi Hunter and his Golem, Witch Cop and his Dog Girlfriend and now a plucky group of Teen Vampire Slayers. Why is the CW wasting time with The Originals when Supernatural‘s writers are tossing out new show ideas every week?  Read more »

Pilot season in full swing. For the uninitiated, this is the time when the networks agree to make pilots for a whole bunch of shows to see which ones will make it onto the schedule for the 2013-2014 season. Most pilots will never see the light of day, but a select few will become the shows you will be in love with one year from now. Here I‘m going to look at what the CW has on tap, because more than any other network, it needs some fresh blood. With Gossip Girl and 90210 ending this year and Cult knocking at death‘s door, the CW‘s fall schedule has a ton of holes.  Read more »

Stories are very important on Supernatural this week. Sam and Dean Winchester have spent eight seasons of Supernatural saving people. There are literally hundreds of people who owe them their lives (and that‘s not counting stopping various apocalypses). The Supernatural season 8 finale is almost here, and there are two big questions to answer. Will Sam close the Gates of Hell forever and will Castiel close the Gates of Heaven? Supernatural ended season 8 with some pretty massive changes. Neither the Gates of Hell nor the Gates of Heaven were actually closed, but I‘ll be damned if the final image of the season didn‘t leave me in awe. It was beautiful, tragic and sets up a very interesting ninth season. Let‘s just say I know what song should play over the opening montage of season 9, and it‘s Bruno Mars‘ "Locked Out of Heaven."  Read more »
