Imagine it‘s a Tuesday night and you‘re a fan of V, The Good Wife and Parenthood. Like any rabid TV fan, you have a DVR with the ability to record two shows at the same time. Michael Emerson is one of those actors in serious danger of being typecast. He won an Emmy for his intensely creepy performance as Ben Linus on Lost. Before that, he won an Emmy for his guest appearance on The Practice as a serial killer. So naturally, Parenthood has cast him as a children‘s party entertainer.Emerson makes his first post-Lost television appearance tonight as the Amazing Andy, a bug enthusiast with Aspergers syndrome on Parenthood (10pm on NBC). It‘s an unusual role for the gifted actor, but it could also be the one he needs to transition himself out of Lost.  Read more »
At its core, Parenthood is about the ups and downs of family. The Bravermans have fun times, but also suffer some tragedies, but they always have each other to lean on through the hard times. The season 2 finale, airing tonight at 10pm on NBC, perfectly embodies that central theme of the show.Following Amber‘s horrific car accident, the entire family gathers in the hospital to learn her fate, and it‘s that sense of family that helps the show stand out. On Tuesday evening, the FOX network went for all-out decimation with regard to its "bubble" shows. Every program not certain of renewal is gone. Even though NBC won‘t make its official announcements for the 2011-2012 season until Monday, the network has followed in the vein of FOX by announcing some early pilot pickups. It now looks like next year‘s lineup will include Prime Suspect, Whitney, Smash and Up All Night. Read more »

In a year when it seems like the networks are all rushing to get their next-season news out before each other, we probably shouldn‘t be surprised that NBC has chosen to announce its 2011-2012 season on a Sunday morning.
