After the failure of ambitious Kings and Crusoe, NBC is picking up another epic story - Merlin - from BBC.  The series is slated for a June 21 premiere on the peacock network, which bought American broadcast rights to the series in April last year.  The series averaged 6.32 million viewers in the UK.Merlin, which is based on the Arthurian legend of the titular mythical wizard, takes place on the kingdom of Camelot in a time before history began - "a fantastical realm of legendary beasts and mysterious people, a dangerous world" - where magic was banned by the current King of Camelot Uther Pendragon.  The series follows Merlin as a young man gifted with extraordinary magical powers who arrives in the kingdom only to quickly make enemies, not the least of which is the heir to Uther‘s crown, Prince Arthur. However, thanks to guidance of Uther‘s wise physician Gaius, Merlin soon starts using his talents not just to survive but more importantly, unlock Camelot‘s mystical secrets.  He is later informed that he has an important destiny to protect Arthur, so that he may grow up and found a great kingdom. Read more »
En route to its June 21 premiere on NBC, the British import Merlin is already drawing raves from American viewers who have either seen parts of it on YouTube or the whole thing.  The series loosely based on Arthurian legends and the wizard Merlin draw as much as 30 percent of viewers when it first aired on September 20 last year.The BBC show is set to premiere on Sunday 8pm, which marks as the first British drama to air on American network television in 30 years, the last one being The New Avengers in the late 1970s.  To further satisfy all so-called wizard-philes, NBC said it will also air a sneak preview of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince during the premiere. Read more »
After much online buzz, the BBC import that features an upgrade on the Arthurian legend will finally be seen by American audiences as Merlin premieres with two episodes tonight 8pm on NBC.  In a nutshell, what Smallville is to Superman, Merlin is to King Arthur.The launching episodes of Merlin will trace Merlin‘s (Colin Morgan) arrival in Camelot and his encounters with Prince Arthur (Bradley James), the evil Knight Valiant (Will Mellor) and King Uther Pendragon (Anthony Head). Having just premiered on NBC, the series Merlin has its fair share of intriguing characters.  It has quite a premise, and it‘s already set the expectations of many fans of the fantasy genre.  While it‘s caused quite a stir among audiences, the stars of the show also admit to sharing the same thrilling sentiments.On a conference call held before the series‘ premiere, actor Colin Morgan who plays the title character of the show revealed what it was like to work on Merlin.  The series focuses on the younger version of the legendary wizard, as he tries to develop his talents in the field of magic.  Joining him is the arrogant prince Arthur (Bradley James), along with different versions of Guinevere and Morgana. Read more »
