Articles for How I Met Your Mother Season 5

The day Ted, Marshall and Lily finally learn about Barney and Robin‘s relationship has finally arrived! How I Met Your Mother returns tonight for its highly anticipated fifth season with an episode that‘s fittingly entitled "Definitions."Ever since Barney told Robin how he feels about her in How I Met Your Mother‘s fourth season finale, I‘ve been imagining what will happen to these two if they got into a relationship, officially. Barney, the show‘s resident playboy, isn‘t exactly the type who would put a label on his affairs but this time, he‘s seeing not just any other girl... it‘s Robin! Read more »

When we last saw How I Met Your Mother, we were left with two cliffhangers: Robin finally finds out about Barney‘s love for her, which she then reciprocates, and Ted decides he is done being an architect and opts to become a professor instead. Season 5 tries to tie up some loose ends by forcing Barney and Robin to defy their relationship while Ted starts teaching architecture in a class where he‘ll eventually meet his future wife.Picking up where we left off, "Definitions" finds Barney and Robin making it clear to the gang that they‘re just friends in spite of kissing last season. To prove that they‘re cool with each other, Barney says something like, "Hey, you still seeing that guy?" ---which Robin replies, "even better -- seeing him naked!" And let‘s not forget the high-fives.  Read more »
Looks like the cast and crew of How I Met Your Mother are doing some massive preparations for its 100th episode, celebrating the special milestone by giving fans hints and clues on what to expect as the show doles out major information about its titular character."There is some serious Mother action in episode 100," How I Met Your Mother executive producer Craig Thomas told Entertainment Weekly‘s Michael Ausiello. "It‘ll be the closest Ted‘s ever come to [discovering who she is]. He‘s getting a step closer every episode this season, and episode 100 [we] kind of go bananas with it." Read more »
How I Met Your Mother spins back to familiar territory in "Double Date," with Ted in another one of his futile attempts to find love while Barney is still his old Playboy self. After the fifth season opener‘s big reveal about Robin and Barney officially hooking up, I‘m excited to see how the show will pull off such an odd pairing but the second episode tells me that seeing Robin and Barney in a relationship and retaining everything that we love about them individually may be harder than imagined. Read more »
Aside from some serious mother action and a musical courtesy of Barney Stinson, How I Met Your Mother has something else in store for fans for its 100th installment. Rachel Bilson, who is most famous for her role as Summer Roberts on the drama series The O.C., has booked a guest spot on the milestone episode as yet another possible candidate for the show‘s titular mystery. Read more »
It hasn‘t been easy watching Robin feel insecure and somewhat jealous over Barney‘s love for stripper clubs in last week‘s How I Met Your Mother. Unfortunately, it looks like we‘ll be getting another dose of Robin out of character in tonight‘s episode as she fears that Barney is cheating on her. While Barney certainly has that playboy reputation, I doubt that he‘ll be cheating on Robin, at least not anytime soon. And my assumption is validated as Robin discovers that Barney is actually spending his evenings with Professor Ted for some "Robin 101." Read more »
How I Met Your Mother has devoted an entire episode to Robin Scherbatsky, the one character that fascinates me the most, next to Barney Stinson, in "Robin 101." And as the title connotes, we learn almost everything there is to know on how to date the show‘s Canadian tomboy, courtesy of Professor Ted Mosby.Clearly Barney isn‘t boyfriend material so the episode takes off from that fact when Robin confides in Lily that she thinks Barney‘s cheating on her. Robin needs proof though and even when Lily reminds her that she is no crazy jealous stalker bitch, Robin still checks out the briefcase that Barney left behind and finds a college notebook inside--- which rouses her suspicions even more. But to her surprise, the notebook contains notes about her and sooner or later, Marshall cracks and reveals that Barney has been taking a Robin 101 class from former flame Ted.  Read more »
The 100th episode of How I Met Your Mother is turning out to be one star-studded event. So far, we‘ve learned that there‘s going to be some serious Mother action, which will be the closest Ted‘s ever come to discovering her future wife, a big kick-ass musical number headlined by Barney Stinson and an appearance by former O.C. actress Rachel Bilson. Now the milestone episode gets even better with the addition of Project Runway‘s Tim Gunn.  Read more »
So far we‘ve seen Robin‘s dad and sister, Marshall‘s family, Barney‘s mom and brother and Ted‘s relatives but now it‘s time to meet Lily Aldrin‘s dad on How I Met Your Mother. According to Entertainment Weekly‘s Michael Ausiello, the show has enlisted comedian Chris Elliott to play the pivotal role. Read more »

It may be the best night ever for Marshall and Lily but I‘m not so sure if it qualifies as one of the best episodes this season on How I Met Your Mother. I must admit that there were times when all the couple stuff in this episode sounded too cheesy for my taste but overall, "The Sexless Innkeeper" sure offered a bunch of hilarious segments worth remembering. Read more »

To be a Canadian or an American is a predicament Robin contends with in "Duel Citizenship" the fifth episode of How I Met Your Mother‘s fifth season. Robin has always been loyal to her Canadian heritage since the beginning of the show and it has given the writers a lot of material for Barney, Ted, Marshall and Lily to poke fun at. This time, however, Robin is forced to leave her roots once and for all.   Read more »

It‘s hard to choose between just plain old single Barney and Barney in a committed relationship with Robin because both options make good TV but somewhere down the line we all know that no matter what direction Barney chooses, he‘ll still end up loosing Robin. Because two awesomes cancel each other out. At least that‘s what tonight‘s episode of How I Met Your Mother tells us.   Read more »

No, there were no zombies, ghost or dead bodies in this week‘s episode of How I Met Your Mother. But the dead, particularly a "dead" father in Lily‘s eyes, came back to life just in time for Thanksgiving. "Slapsgiving 2: Revenge of The Slap" was a great follow-up to "Slapsgiving" as it toyed with the real meaning of family and forgiveness while giving us a bunch of moments and made-up words to laugh about. There were a lot of firsts in this episode. It‘s Marshall and Lily‘s first time to be hosting Thanksgiving in their own apartment, and it‘s also the first time we see Lily‘s father Mickey, who happens to be a failed board game inventor.  Read more »

We learned a lot of things on How I Met Your Mother this week: Robin smoked and so did everyone else in the group. No, this wasn‘t just the occasional enjoyment of tobacco we‘ve seen in the past seasons. The gang was definitely addicted to cigarettes and as much as they wanted to quit, they always found themselves going back for more...until they found a good reason to really quit the bad habit. More on that after the jump.  Read more »

She‘s won numerous Grammy Awards, she‘s a multi-platinum selling artist, a three-time Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association Female Vocalist winner, and she‘s been inducted into the Grand Ole Opry. Now that she‘s victoriously tackled the music industry, Carrie has declared her interest in acting and she got a taste of the scripted spotlight during her FOX Holiday Special. After last week‘s 100th episode, How I Met Your Mother treated fans with another first. "Jenkins," the 101 installment marked the directorial debut of cast member Neil Patrick Harris, who was understandably and considerably absent from the canvas because of his off-cam duties. But that‘s not to say that it wasn‘t any good. In fact, it was a refreshing break from all the relationship catchphrases (which I still think is funny so don‘t get me wrong). Read more »

If you‘ve seen Barney Stinson pickup women in the past, it‘s not really hard to imagine him scoring the perfect week--- which basically means hooking up with seven women in seven days with zero rejection. What is delightfully surprising, however, is how How I Met Your Mother cleverly used this plot as figment of Barney‘s imagination to distract himself from screwing up a merger at work that might get him fired. Read more »

It‘s Valentine‘s Day on How I Met Your Mother and what better way to celebrate the occasion than to satisfy Barney‘s insatiable quest for hot women and argue about the fine line between love and hate.  This week‘s episode kicks off with a quick follow-up to Barney‘s Super Bowl stint in which he was holding up a sign with his phone number that says "Call Barney Stinson." That little stint he pulled evidently transformed his phone into a magical phone--- one that rings incessantly because an infinite number of chicks are trying to hook up with him.  Read more »

When How I Met Your Mother closed the chapter on Stella and Ted‘s romance, it left a little window open in the episode "As Fast As You Can," in which Future Ted revealed that Stella‘s husband Tony became a successful screenwriter, after being inspired by the events that led Tony to win back Stella from Ted, which is consequently the premise of his hit movie The Wedding Bride. It‘s surprisingly hard to find new updates on How I Met Your Mother nowadays so I‘ve decided to focus on what appears to be the next biggest brainchild of series creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas. It‘s shot in the same manner of How I Met Your Mother but the setting takes place in Pittsburgh. Read more »

Back in June, I was talking to a friend of mine who live in Dallas. She‘s the sort who uploads YouTube videos of herself singing. I told her American Idol will be holding auditions where she is, and encouraged her to join, since she‘s long wished to be part of the show. Unfortunately, she didn‘t join--she joined the Navy instead. I guess that means I won‘t be watching the show tonight, anticipating someone I know to pop up.Texas has been home to a lot of talent, and I‘m not just thinking of country icons and all those indie bands in Austin. Idol has held auditions here twice before, and its biggest discoveries are not like each other. Season 7‘s Jason Castro has gone the folky route. And, of course, we all know what happened to the show‘s very first winner, Kelly Clarkson. Of course, you can expect the show to drop Kelly‘s name and ask whether we‘ll see another one of her sort in Dallas this year. Don‘t act so surprised when that happens, please. Thank you.  Read more »
After every episode, we assess how American Idol‘s guest judges have fared. Towards the end, we‘ll see if they did Paula Abdul‘s old slot justice. Or the show justice. Or Simon Cowell‘s soon-to-be-vacated slot justice. You get the idea. And, in case you haven‘t noticed, we‘re merging two report cards today into one. We think you know why.  Read more »
It‘s April, the month of taxes, tulips and ... comedy. (We were trying really hard for alliteration, but "terribly funny" just sounded lame.) You probably didn‘t know that April is also National Humor Month. In honor of this auspicious occasion, we thought it would be funny to find out which TV comedies inspire the most dedicated fans.   After some very unscientific investigation--we posed the question to our Facebook fans and here in the office--we came up with one giant list of favorite comedies. And when we say "giant list," we mean massive.  So bring on the subheads! Read more »

Everyone‘s got baggage and How I Met Your Mother celebrates that fact in this week‘s episode entitled "The Wedding Bride." Evidently, Marshall‘s baggage is that he‘s too nice, which is the worst kind of baggage according to Barney. The best kind, on the other hand, is when a woman hates her dad and thinks she‘s fat even though she‘s not.  Read more »
Over the course of the fifth season, we‘ve seen several doppelgangers of our favorite characters. So far, we‘ve seen Lesbian Robin, Mustache Marshall, Stripper Lily and the most recent of all, Mexican Wrestler Ted. We‘ve yet to meet Barney‘s dead ringer but How I Met Your Mother is saving the best doppelganger of all for its final episode of the season. Read more »
Babies, dead ringers, and the never ending battle of career versus romance--How I Met Your Mother‘s fifth season finale taps on all these things and more though surprisingly, nothing in the realm of the mother of Ted‘s children. I‘m not complaining though because while the season ender doesn‘t really leave any big cliffhangers, it manages to be light, funny and entertaining, which reminds me of why this comedy series got me hooked in the first place.  Read more »
