Articles for Grey's Anatomy Season 4

Everybody‘s favorite dysfunctional medical drama is back for a fourth season. Grey‘s Anatomy opens with a beautiful dawn rising over the Seattle skyline and, of course, the Space Needle. It is 17 days after Cristina Yang‘s disastrous wedding from last season‘s finale. Burke left her at the altar, so she and Meredith went to Hawaii on what was supposed to be Yang‘s and Burke‘s honeymoon. Alex took off in search of Ava, née Rebecca, and to grow a goatee. He didn‘t do a good job of either, however. He didn‘t see Rebecca, and the mustache of his goatee doesn‘t connect with the chin part. Izzie and George were the only ones who stayed at the hospital, but George managed to avoid Izzie the entire time. Read more »
After last night‘s season 4 premiere of Grey‘s Anatomy, the most popular feud in all of television was rekindled: Gizzie, love them or hate them? For those few who don‘t know, Gizzie is the popular nickname attributed to the romantic pairing of George (T. R. Knight) and Izzie (Katherine Heigl) on the hit ABC series.Seemingly out of the blue, they hooked up as part of a drunken mistake last season, which led to Izzie confessing her love for George. Well, Grey‘s Anatomy started its fourth season by reigniting that flame, ending with George professing his love for Izzie. For some viewers, this was a moment akin to the Jim-Pam kiss at the end of the second season of The Office. For others, it was as if Shonda Rhimes was flipping Gizzie haters the bird. Read more »
Despite having let go of two prominent cast members this season, ABC‘s Grey‘s Anatomy won the much coveted adults 18-49 demographic on Thursday, September 27. The fourth season premiere of Grey‘s Anatomy earned a preliminary 8.7 rating in its 9pm timeslot, and was the highest-rated program of the night.  The award-winning medical drama, however, experienced a 21 percent drop from last year.  The show‘s lead in, Ugly Betty, earned a 3.8, a number reflecting a 24 percent drop.  ABC‘s new drama, Big Shots, earned a 4.7, making it among one of the highest-rated new series premieres, although it lost 46 percent of its lead in and dropped 26 percent in its second half hour. Read more »
When primetime heavyweights return to the boob tube this fall, they won‘t just be fighting for who gets to reel in the most number of viewers.  Behind the ratings war, television shows will also be jostling for the right to earn top advertising dollar. In network TV, the battle for who gets to command steeper advertising rates is equally important as the race to grab the largest chunk of viewer patronage.  During last Thursday‘s second year of stiff competition between CBS‘ CSI and ABC‘s Grey‘s Anatomy, the fourth-year medical series proved that Grey is the color of money. Read more »
Today on Grey‘s Anatomy, it is all about addictions. Addictions are bad, mmmkay? After their break-up sex in the call room in last week‘s episodes, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) went back to Meredith‘s place to continue the break-up sex. They are all smiles, and decide that instead of being a relationship, they should henceforth, only engage in S&M: sex and mockery.Downstairs, George (T.R. Knight) is flushed and excited after confessing to Izzie (Katherine Heigl) that he loves her too. He feels exhilarated to have finally figured out that he shouldn‘t have gotten married. He resolves to march back home and tell Callie (Sara Ramirez) that their marriage is over. Izzie, because she is a terrible human being and a worse friend, doesn‘t try to talk him out of it and merely sits there, ecstatic and giddy. Read more »
As if Meredith doesn‘t have enough to deal with!  Last season, she almost drowned, she was forced to face her father and his family, her mother died, and she and Derek broke up ... sort of.  On their first day back at Seattle Grace since Burke and Cristina‘s failed attempt at a marriage, a new intern walks up to Meredith and bluntly says, "I‘m your sister." Since then, Meredith has done her best to avoid this person who she is supposed to care about and bond with.  After a few weeks of following her around like a puppy dog, Meredith finally has had it, telling Lexie Grey, "You‘re not someone I want to know." Read more »
O, happy Thursday night! Not only did tonight‘s Grey‘s Anatomy feature the great Edward Herrmann, most recently of Gilmore Girls, as the world‘s oldest intern (words cannot describe how much I heart this new turn of events), but the episode totally did not suck! It was snarky and funny, light but with some sober moments, all the whininess and depressing stuff was kept at a minimum, and did I mention Edward Herrmann? The episode opens in the elevator where the new interns openly admire how skilled George (T.R. Knight) is. Lexie (Chyler Leigh) knows about his repeater status, but keeps mum. Derek (Patrick Dempsey) looks at Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) like the lech that he is, tipping off Cristina (Sandra Oh) that the two are sleeping together again. Indeed, Meredith and Derek go to the nearest available supply closet to do the wumpity-wump practically as soon as they get off the elevator. McDreamy asks her why she hasn‘t told Cristina, but Mer says it‘s because she‘s afraid that Cristina isn‘t over Burke yet and wants to be a good friend. Two things: A) Remind me never to go to Seattle Grace Hospital if I‘m sick because I‘m not sure that the supplies in that closet are sterile anymore, and B) why does Burke get mentioned in every episode and Addison not a word? Read more »
When Grey’s Anatomy was in its first season, all any of my female friends and family members told me was how great it was. When something is hyped beyond reason, I tend to stay away from it so naturally, it took until the middle of season 2 to lose my inner battle and give in to my love for the doctors of Seattle Grace. Since then, I have gone on to have a love/hate relationship with the show, mostly love. I loved the Izzie/Denny relationship and hated that Meredith almost drowned. I loved that Alex found a heart while taking care of Ava, but hated the way they resolved (or lack thereof) the Cristina/Burke storyline. Now, a new storyline has me on the fence: the Gizzie relationship. Read more »
Previously on Grey‘s Anatomy, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) had break up sex, Norman Shales (Edward Herrmann) was the world‘s oldest intern, Thatcher Grey chose Lexie (Chyler Leigh) over Meredith, Richard‘s (James Pickens) niece knew she was dying, Alex (Justin Chambers) kissed Izzie (Katherine Heigl) but she pulled away, and George (T.R. Knight) told Callie (Sara Ramirez) that he slept with Izzie.Tonight‘s Grey‘s Anatomy picks up right after George‘s confession to Callie. She simply says that she forgives him. He made a mistake, but they took vows, so she forgives him. Read more »
Previously on Grey‘s Anatomy, George (T.R. Knight) slept with Izzie (Katherine Heigl), Alex (Justin Chambers) named Ava (Elizabeth Reaser), Dr. Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith) from Mercy West Hospital liked Cristina (Sandra Oh), Meredith‘s (Ellen Pompeo) mother died. It‘s Halloween tonight on Grey‘s Anatomy. Meredith opens the episode with a nightmare. The sequence includes familiar images of her near death experience and run-ins with her mother, and ends with her in a drawer at the morgue. Her dead self opens her eyes and repeats the “pick me, choose me, love me” speech she gave to Derek. She wakes up, grabs the urn containing her mother‘s ashes from out of her closet and goes downstairs to dump the contents of the urn into a Ziploc bag. It‘s one of the gallon-sized freezer bags so you know she means business. She explains to Izzie and Alex, who are carving pumpkins and baking Halloween treats, that her mother is haunting her and she needs to find a way to put her to rest. Read more »
Now that both Kate Walsh and Isaiah Washington have both left Grey‘s Anatomy to move on to other shows, Seattle Grace is down a couple of attending physicians. Never fear: Brooke Smith‘s Dr. Erica Hahn will be replacing Burke as the head of the cardiothoracic surgery department. Fans will remember Dr. Hahn as Burke‘s former medical school rival and no-nonsense surgeon from Mercy West who laid claim to the heart that eventually went to Denny Duquette.Smith had just put down a deposit on school for their daughter and finished renovating their apartment in New York when she was offered the full-time gig by the Grey‘s Anatomy bigwigs. "All right, I guess we‘re moving to L.A. for a little while," she old Michael Ausiello of TV Guide. Read more »
When watching a show like Grey‘s Anatomy, it‘s hard to believe that so many beautiful people can work in one hospital.  There‘s Meredith, McDreamy, Alex, Izzie, McSteamy, and Lexie.  What about Cristina Yang?  According to Maxim magazine, she‘s not hot.  So much so, in fact, that they‘ve ranked the actress who plays her, Sandra Oh, on their Unsexeist Women Alive list.  After Esquire magazine recently named Charlize Theron the Sexiest Woman Alive, Maxim decided to take a stand and go in the opposite direction, exploring the five women who apparently, no one finds attractive. Read more »

The ongoing walkout of the Writers Guild of America or WGA, which began yesterday, has thrown many television shows into uncertainty, with their respective current seasons left hanging due to unwritten episodes.  Understandably, many of those in jeopardy are the newer programs which are either on their maiden or sophomore seasons.  However, even top-rated and commercially solid shows like Grey‘s Anatomy are feeling the pressure of the writers‘ strike. Many are anticipating a long impasse that could very well go on until the holidays.  Producers and actors alike have expressed anxiety over the repercussions of a lengthy stalemate. Read more »

Meredith glowers at them from across the bar. Read more »

On Grey‘s Anatomy, Izzie Stevens has been taking charge of her relationship with her best friend, George O‘Malley  In real life, the actress that portrays her is similarly in charge of her own partnership.  Katherine Heigl is set to marry singer/songwriter Josh Kelley at the end of this year.  With the wedding right around the corner, there‘s not much for Kelley to worry about.  Heigl seems to have the whole thing under control.  "I‘m kind of a part of it," Kelley told People magazine this week. "But I think she‘s got a pretty good handle on it." "I said, ‘Baby, you know, anything you want me to do, I got it.‘ But you know, other than that, what am I really gonna do? ‘The tulips need to go over here?!‘ I don‘t know," he confessed. Read more »

You really can‘t forget the vodka. Read more »
Working on Grey‘s Anatomy has certainly revived Patrick Dempsey‘s career, but finding fame once again hasn‘t proven to be all that great.  He spends about 14 hours on the set each day, with a schedule that is likely to change at any given moment. "The show is like running a marathon.  It feels like it never stops.  The obligations you have for the show - it‘s relentless," Dempsey, who plays Dr. Derek Shepherd on Grey‘s Anatomy, told Best Life magazine.  "The amount of exposure and the visibility... it was a big change for me." Read more »
As Dr. Richard Webber on ABC‘s Grey‘s Anatomy, James Pickens, Jr. has been through much emotional turmoil with his character‘s struggling marriage and illicit romantic affair.  As much as the 53-year-old actor would want to see the Chief in a romantic storyline, Richard doesn‘t seem to be quite ready for a love interest. Instead, Richard is now in the process of grieving that encompasses both his wife Adele (Loretta Devine) and his deceased lover Ellis Grey (Kate Burton)."Obviously, he‘s scared to death of getting in the dating pool," Pickens told TV Guide of his character on Grey‘s Anatomy.  "With McDreamy [Patrick Dempsey] and McSteamy [Eric Dane] trying to egg him on, it doesn‘t bode well for him." Read more »
The third season of Grey‘s Anatomy has been the most tumultuous to date, what with the firing of Isaiah Washington and the departure of Kate Walsh for her spin-off, Private Practice.  However, show star Patrick Dempsey says that all is now well behind the scenes. "There‘s a much better mood on the set... I think [creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes] is really finding her way trying to balance out the two shows,” Dempsey, who plays Dr. Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd on Grey‘s Anatomy, said. "We find her to be much more receptive this season.  She‘s looking for more feedback from people than she had in the past." Read more »
Last season, Grey‘s Anatomy fans were surprised when George O‘Malley rushed into marriage with fellow doctor Callie Torres.  Even more surprising was when a drunken evening between friends George and Izzie Stevens turned into a one-night stand.  The biggest shock of all was when it was revealed that the two friends actually had feelings for each other.  Izzie became a homewrecker and Geoge pined away for her, while still being married.  This season, he ended his relationship with Callie to begin a new one with Izzie.  Unfortunately for them, things have not gone well for the pair as they cannot seem to find their chemistry together.   Fans have expressed their unhappiness with the pairing by writer, Shonda Rhimes.  Now, Izzie‘s portrayer, Katherine Heigl, has spoken out and let the fans know that she agrees! Read more »
Previously on Grey‘s Anatomy, an ambulance crashed into another one in front of the hospital, killing one paramedic named Stan and severely injuring his partner Ray. Derek (Patrick Dempsey) operates on the brain of the driver of the first ambulance Mary, while Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Cristina (Sandra Oh) treat her partner who just happens to be a white supremacist. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) doesn‘t want Derek to see anyone, but doesn‘t quite tell him. Ava (Elizabeth Reaser) is back. Seth Green flirts with Lexie (Chyler Leight) and ends up spewing his artery blood all over her.The special two-part Grey‘s Anatomy story arc concludes tonight, after an interminable two-week wait.Lexie covers up Seth Green‘s carotid artery with her hands to try to stop the bleeding. She manages to call the nurses‘ station to call a code blue, with Seth Green‘s help. Good thing Seth Green is conscious. He‘s very conscious. He doesn‘t go into shock or anything, and in fact, seems very chatty. He even makes jokes about his veins being flaccid when the nurse puts in an IV to replace some of the blood that he‘s losing. Cristina responds to the code blue and comes in to find Lexie wearing half of Seth Green‘s blood. Read more »
Last season‘s Grey‘s Anatomy didn‘t end that well for Sandra Oh‘s character, Dr. Cristina Yang.  Her fiancé, Dr. Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington), called off their wedding, and when she returned to the apartment they shared, all of his belongings were gone. This season isn‘t going so smoothly for the heartbroken Cristina, either, as she is now butting heads with Burke‘s replacement, Dr. Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith).  Oh, however, is happy about the direction her character is taking. Read more »
During the third season of ABC‘s Grey‘s Anatomy, Dr. Burke, played by Isaiah Washington, suffered a gun shot wound that left him bedridden and out of commission.  In came Brooke Smith‘s Dr. Erica Hahn, a cardiothoracic surgeon at a neighboring hospital who substituted for Burke at Seattle Grace.  While Smith loved the role, she wasn‘t expecting it to become a permanent gig. “I didn‘t really think it was going to work out,” Smith told The Daily News. Read more »
Next week, Grey‘s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl will be walking down the aisle to wed her musician fiance, Josh Kelley, and the 29-year-old actress is certain that her small but intimate ceremony, scheduled to take place just two days before Christmas, will be “super romantic.” “I kind of love it,” Heigl told Access Hollywood‘s Nancy O‘Dell.  “It wasn‘t my original idea. I originally wanted a more fall wedding back East, but I‘ve end up really falling in love with the idea.  I think it‘s going to be super romantic.” Read more »
Shonda Rhimes has been writing for ABC‘s Grey‘s Anatomy since it began, but due to the WGA strike, she, along with the rest of the writing staff, has found herself out of the office and in the streets.  However, this doesn‘t necessarily mean that her absence immediately put a stop to production, which is why one upcoming episode was completed after the strike and without her input. "[The network] shot it after we walked out," Rhimes told The New York Post on Wednesday, December 12, while walking the picket line in front of Paramount Studios in L.A.  "That one episode hasn‘t aired.  Everything else we‘ve done has aired.” Read more »
ABC really wants to torpedo the premiere of The Apprentice: Celebrity Edition.  Following NBC‘s announcement that they were moving back The Celebrity Apprentice‘s premiere one week (from January 3 to January 10) to avoid college football and the final pre-strike episode of Grey‘s Anatomy, ABC announced today that they were moving back the final pre-strike episode of Grey‘s Anatomy to December 10 as well.  Both shows are set to air at 9pm.  Both of these announcements are accompanied by major shuffling of air dates for ABC and NBC shows.  Here‘s a look at where the final pre-strike episodes of some of ABC and NBC series will now fall.  Read more »

Grey‘s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey has been named “Star of the Year” by People magazine.  The 41-year-old actor received the top honors for having had a great year on and off screen. Dempsey, who plays Dr. Derek Shepherd on ABC‘s Grey‘s Anatomy, graces the cover of the magazine‘s year-end issue, which features the best – and worst – of 2007. This year, Dempsey further gained fame for his work on the successful medical drama, as well as for portraying single father and divorce attorney Robert Philip on Disney‘s hit film, Enchanted.  Off screen, Dempsey welcomed twin boys, Darby Galen and Sullivan Patrick, whom his wife, Jill Fink, gave birth to earlier this year. Read more »
On Sunday, December 23, Katherine Heigl married singer/song writer Josh Kelley in a ceremony in Utah.  The couple, which got engaged in June of 2006, met on the set of one of Kelley‘s music videos.  Less than a year later, they were engaged to be married.  The Park City, Utah private ceremony was attended by Heigl‘s Grey‘s Anatomy co-stars Justin Chambers,  T.R. Knight and Sandra Oh, as well as former Grey‘s star and current lead of Private Practice, Kate Walsh.  Heigl wouldn‘t comment on their honeymoon location (wise, given the aggressive paparazzi), but said they‘d be heading to a beach.  Isaiah Washington was not in attendance.  Read more »
Check out all our lists for BuddyTV‘s Top 7 of ‘07 to relive the best and the worst of the year in television.Gina Scarpa ranked Grey‘s Anatomy 3rd.  She says...I‘ll admit that Grey‘s Anatomy has made some blunders this year. They gave Meredith a near-death experience where she saw dead people and they created the worst couple with the worst name ever: Gizzie. However, having been a fan of the show since the moment they said “McDreamy,” I can be forgiving of such things. What annoys me about the show is also what drives me to watch it. I‘m invested in these characters, I care what happens to them, and I share their emotions week after week on Thursday nights. Read more »
Thanks to the WGA strike, we have run out of episodes of all our favorite shows.  Grey‘s Anatomy only has one new episode left, which airs on January 10.  When we last left the staff of Seattle Grace, Lexie was unable to save Nick, a patient who she had started to make a connection with.  Bailey‘s husband gets sick of waiting for her to have time for him and their son.  Derek kisses Rose and Meredith tells him that she doesn‘t want him seeing anyone else, unaware of what has happened.  After a tough day at work, Meredith and Lexie spend some time together.  This next episode picks up where we left off.  Check out what‘s coming up on Grey‘s Anatomy.** WARNING!  SPOILER ALERT! ** Read more »
Check out all our lists for BuddyTV‘s Top 7 of ‘07 to relive the best and the worst of the year in television.I admit, I love me some hot doctors on Grey‘s Anatomy. Come on, there‘s Patrick Dempsey of the blue eyes and the pretty, pretty hair. Then there‘s Eric Dane who, bless his soul, might need a refresher course in acting but certainly knows how to bring it when called upon to do a scene with a handkerchief-sized towel. But my favorite piece of man-meat has to be Justin Chambers, Seattle Grace‘s resident asshat resident Alex Karev, especially when he‘s sporting his black wifebeater tanktop. I don‘t care who his scenes are with: Izzie, Lexie or some floozy he meets at Joe‘s bar, so long as we get to see that black wifebeater. Read more »
Recently on Grey‘s Anatomy, Patrick Dempsey‘s Derek locked lips with Nurse Rose (Lauren Stamile).  While this means more trouble for his already unstable relationship with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), Dempsey is actually happy about the development, saying that he feels “encouraged” that someone new has come into to his character‘s life."It will make the storylines more interesting and compelling,” Dempsey told the New York Post.  “Last season was boring to do.  Enough is enough already.  It‘s time for the writers to go back and take a look at things and find some new paths for these characters.  It was too repetitive for me." Read more »
Last month, Grey‘s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl tied the knot with musician Josh Kelley.  Now, the “elated” newlyweds are busy adjusting to their life as husband and wife. "We have never lived together," Heigl said in the latest issue of OK! Magazine, adding though that she is not nervous about sharing a home with Kelley.  “This new house means now we are in this together.  It means compromise on style, taste and how each one of us lives, how we don‘t like to live and how we‘re going to work it all out.  It‘s going to be an amazing place to start our lives together and start a family." Read more »
Is there any subject that Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl doesn’t have an opinion of? Recently, the actress received a lot of backlash from her fans after slamming her 2007 hit movie Knocked Up in an issue of Vanity Fair magazine. As BuddyTV reported, last month, Heigl called the movie “a little sexist”. She also expressed her dissatisfaction with the George/Izzie storyline on Grey’s Anatomy. Some fans think that Heigl has expressed enough but she’s not finished yet. This week, she had a lot to say on the subject of Britney Spears. Read more »
Last Thursday, we were given the last new episode of Grey‘s Anatomy for quite some time and the cries of fans could be heard from here to Seattle Grace.  The Writers Guild of America is making demands that are fair and just but isn‘t it starting to get to the point where we just wish that one side would cave and give in?  There‘s hardly anything to look forward to with the exception of reality television and improved late night television these days.  The last episode of Grey‘s was not close to being one of the series‘ best so we were not left on too much of a high.  Many new pairings were introduced ranging from friendships to couples, from George and Lexie to Callie and Hahn to McSteamy and Hahn.  One thing is for sure: everybody‘s got an opinion. Read more »
Katherine Heigl has impressed both viewers and critics with her outstanding portrayal of Dr. Izzie Stevens in the medical drama, Grey‘s Anatomy.  Throughout the course of the show, Heigl‘s Izzie has gone through a number of tear-jerking experiences, including falling in love with a heart patient who, ultimately, succumbs to his failing health. However, while the 29-year-old actress has an Emmy to show for her convincing dramatic performance, she admits she has a much better time making people laugh than cry. Read more »
Late last week, the Directors Guild of America (DGA) struck a tentative deal with the Association of the Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), leading many to speculate that it could spell the end of the ongoing writers‘ strike that has severely disrupted the 2007-08 television season. Grey‘s Anatomy star Sandra Oh isn‘t too optimistic, however, downplaying hopes that the show‘s current season is salvageable. Read more »
The last new episode of Grey‘s Anatomy aired two weeks ago and now, we‘re left with repeats the seasons we bought on DVD the day they came out at Target.  All the bonus material in the world can‘t replace the fact that we don‘t know is Derek will end up with Meredith or Rose.  We don‘t know if George is going to move in with Lexie or what effect that would have on his friendship/relationship with Izzie.  We don‘t know the repercussions of Bailey‘s husband blaming her for their son‘s injury.  No, all we can do is sit around and speculate, coming up with theories and possible storylines.  Wouldn‘t it be great if we could live the life of a Grey‘s Anatomy character to play out these stories?  Well, now we can with the Grey‘s Anatomy mobile game.  Hold on, though.  If you think this sounds like something fun and worth your money, you would be very, very wrong. Read more »
Every day, the cast of Grey‘s Anatomy put on their scrubs, memorize their medical jargon, and head to the Seattle Grace set to play doctor.  They treat patients, perform surgery, and work in the pit or the free clinic.  The tables were turned this week when two Grey‘s actors sought out medical treatment of their own.  One actress announced that a special delivery was on the way while one actor voluntarily admitted himself to a psych ward.  It seems each cast member is finding different ways to pass the time during the ongoing WGA strike.  Read on for medical updates on two Grey‘s Anatomy cast members. Read more »
The abbreviated fourth season of Grey‘s Anatomy came to a close several weeks ago, leaving a hole in our Thursday nights as well as in our collective grieving hearts. How can we possibly fill the void? Well, we‘ll all probably fill it just fine with Lost and Eli Stone, but we‘ll still miss our hot doctors anyway. As in previous seasons, season 4 was all about couples, jumping in and out of relationships, trying their darnedest to have hot sex on the cramped, twin-sized bunk-beds in the on-call room. Here is a look back at all the couplings of the season. Read more »
Great news for all Grey‘s Anatomy fans out there.  In wake of reports that a tentative agreement between striking scribes and big Hollywood executives is expected to be announced sometime this week, there‘s talk that production on the hit medical drama will resume in early March.  The plan is to film four or five episodes that will air in April or May. The information is courtesy of TV Guide‘s Michael Ausiello, who credits his Grey‘s Anatomy sources as the bearers of good news.  The gossip guru also claims that a similar plan is being drawn for other ABC shows, including Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty and Brothers & Sisters.  On the other hand, new series that have already received a full-season order – Pushing Daisies, Dirty Sexy Money and Samantha Who? – will most likely resume production over the summer. Read more »
Late last month, Grey‘s Anatomy star Justin Chambers checked himself into the psych ward of the UCLA Medical Center to get treatment for exhaustion. His stay was brief, however, as he left the facility two days later, and now, his costars are assuring that the 37-year-old actor and father of five is doing well."I spoke with Justin once I‘d heard about him checking himself in, and he‘s doing great," James Pickens Jr., who plays Dr. Richard Webber on Grey‘s Anatomy, told TV Guide while attending the NAACP Image Awards Nominee Luncheon on Saturday. "He said, ‘I‘m good. I just needed to get some rest.‘" Read more »
This is not exactly new news, but it has recently come to my attention that Grey‘s Anatomy‘s newest intern, sweet, young Lexie Grey, has a much more sinister past than you might have realized. The New York Daily News reported way back in November of last year that they had unearthed a disturbing item in the résumé of Chyler Leigh. Back in 1997, when Leigh was just 15, she starred in a B movie called Kickboxing Academy. In the film, the Grey‘s Anatomy actress‘ romantic interest was played by her real-life brother, Christopher Khayman Lee. Read more »
Last week, BuddyTV reported that Grey‘s Anatomy star Eric Dane was battling skin cancer.  His story became front page news for OK magazine‘s February 18th issue.  Dane was front and center with the words, "My Fight Against Cancer" plastered across the cover.  In the article, the actor said he was treated for skin cancer after noticing something wrong with his lips.  The treatment was reportedly very painful and left his wife, actress Rebecca Gayheart, worried about him.  The story ended with Dane‘s warning to readers to always use sunscreen and protect your skin.  McSteamy received lots of support from fans but there was just one slight problem.  According to him, the story is full of inaccuracies and exaggeration. Read more »
A few weeks ago, we reported that when news first broke out about an agreement between the then-picketing Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), the buzz was that Grey‘s Anatomy would be back in production next month.  The news came from TV Guide‘s Michael Ausiello, who reported that the medical drama was planning to film four to five new installments for airing in April or May. In additional news, Ausiello also reports that once fresh material becomes available as scheduled in April, Grey‘s Anatomy will reportedly slide back into its original Thursday night slot from 9-10.  ABC is said to be eyeing the Grey‘s lead-in 8-9pm bracket for Ugly Betty, and the post-Grey‘s 10pm slot for the last five episodes of Lost‘s current season.  If this alleged planned schedule materializes, ABC will have a hell of a Thursday primetime lineup come April. Read more »
It was only a few years ago when the ABC network looked a lot like NBC does now:  washed up and ready to be put out of its misery.  Then, starting with a couple of small shows known as Desperate Housewives and Lost, ABC experienced a creative resurgence that reinvigorated the network and led to them producing some of the most quirky and unique shows on television.  All of that creativity came to an abrupt halt thanks to the writers‘ strike, but now that the picket lines are empty ABC has finally announced when their hit shows will return with brand new episodes.  Read on for all the details. Read more »
Joshua Jackson won‘t be appearing on Grey‘s Anatomy after all.  The former Dawson‘s Creek star was all signed up and ready for an extended run on the ABC medical drama, but then that pesky writers‘ strike came along and chaos ensued.  During the strike, Joshua Jackson was cast as one of the hand-picked stars of the brand-new J.J. Abrams pilot Fringe and it turns out that the scheduling between Fringe and Grey‘s Anatomy just couldn‘t be worked out.  Fringe, a sci-fi pilot, is apparently going into production soon (which is much earlier than I had originally anticipated) and now Grey‘s Anatomy is going to have to scramble to either replace Jackson or completely scrap the character he was going to play.  Read more »
Although the strike is slowly beginning to fade into distant memory, and even as the television viewing population is now eagerly awaiting the return of new episodes from shows like Grey‘s Anatomy, we still have a few more weeks to endure with reruns and repeats. While the writers‘ walkout may have put the bulk of primetime television in the precarious position of losing out on weekly ratings, revenues and viewers‘ interest, it did offer some celebrities the time to attend to some personal businesses.  For Chandra Wilson of Grey‘s Anatomy, it was an opportunity to revisit her performing roots and give something back to those who‘ve followed in her footsteps. Read more »
To help celebrate the end of the strike, and give back to the writers that it affected, the stars of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice are coming together to give back. While celebrities are able to afford the luxury of staying home or going on vacation during their time off, the writers depended on that income to provide for their families. "Obviously, these people lost a great deal of money, and we wanted to do something for them," said Grey’s star Sara Ramirez. Tonight, the stars came together to present “Good Medicine”, a night of music and comedy, to benefit the writers. Read more »
Say it isn‘t so!  Not really just the prospect of her wanting to leave Grey‘s Anatomy, but more the indications that success may have gone to Katherine Heigl‘s beautiful blond head.  Yes, the grapevine was abuzz this weekend with news that the recently-married actress is now itching to leave the series that has catapulted her to critical acclaim and enviable stardom. According to reports, Heigl, who has experienced success at the box office with her comedic motion picture vehicles, Knocked Up and the more recent 27 Dresses, seems bent on pursuing her big screen career now and believes that she may have outgrown television.  Now when and where have we heard something similar to that before?  Think CSI: Miami‘s David Caruso when he was the undisputed star of NYPD Blue. Read more »
After that rather bizarre confusion surrounding the nature and gravity of Eric Dane‘s skin-related condition, the Grey‘s Anatomy co-star is back in the limelight for altogether more pleasant reasons.  The man who brings to life the character of Dr. Mark “McSteamy” Sloan on Grey‘s Anatomy has landed a role alongside Hollywood heavies, Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson. Eric Dane has been cast in the big screen adaptation of John Grogan‘s bestselling memoir, Marley & Me. Read more »
Patrick Dempsey may just play a doctor on television but he knows what it’s like to sit inside the walls of a hospital day in and day out. His mother, Amanda, is a survivor of ovarian cancer. She was treated three separate times for the disease at the Central Maine Medical Center and is now cancer free. In honor of his mother, the Grey‘s Anatomy star is opening the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing. He recently addressed the media and medical staff at a press conference about the new center and what it will do for the community. Read more »
Mark your calendar, Grey‘s Anatomy fans.  A new episode (finally) returns next month, on April 24.  When we last left the staff of Seattle Grace, Dr. Bailey faced a tough choice: her job or her family.  George‘s mom showed up to the hospital, unaware that he and Callie had ended their marriage.  Izzie was forced to come clean to Mrs. O‘Malley, an uncomfortable moment for all parties involved.  Fed up with Meredith‘s fear of commitment, Derek decides to explore his relationship with Rose.  Here is some information about the newest episode of Grey‘s!** WARNING!  SPOILERS AHEAD! ** Read more »
When Grey’s Anatomy first introduced us to Rose, the nurse who caught Derek’s eye, I was thinking what you were: Who the hell is this chick? The show tried to play it off like she had been in several of his surgeries but we never saw her until the 9th episode of season 4. You can’t fool me, Grey’s Anatomy. I know that she hasn’t REALLY been around. When it seemed that the two were flirting and even talking about dating, I was not happy. Sure, I didn’t want him with Meredith but I didn’t want him with this intruder either. Yet, even though Rose has only been in 4 episodes so far, she’s already grown on me. Now, I’m actually rooting for her and Derek and praying that he ends things with Meredith. Before you go all Isaiah on me, let me explain. Read more »
Justin Chambers, also known as Grey‘s Anatomy‘s Dr. Alex Karev, has been suffering from a sleeping disorder for some time now.  In fact, this has led the 37-year-old former Calvin Klein model turned actor to check in to UCLA‘s Medical Center‘s psych ward around the time troubled celebrity Britney Spears was a patient last January. In an interview with People, the Grey‘s Anatomy star opens up about his condition and the distress he had to deal with for sleeping no more than an hour a week two months prior to his checking into UCLA. Read more »
There’s never a shortage of stories or drama as long as Katherine Heigl maintains her career in Hollywood. The actress constantly finds herself as the subject of news stories for her outspoken and blunt nature. Recently, when the actress was called the next Julia Roberts, the Grey’s Anatomy actress didn’t appreciate the comparison. "I can‘t help but feel the comparison is a little insulting [to Julia Roberts]. There‘s not another woman who I look at and think, ‘That‘s it, that‘s whose career I want to have.‘ I‘m just me and trying to do the best I can in every decision in any given moment,” she was quoted as saying. Read more »
They’ve been dated and dumped on Grey’s Anatomy and one even bled to death. Sometimes the guest stars on the hit ABC medical drama are the best part about a particular episode. Sure, it’s nice appearing on a critically acclaimed television show but these talented actors crave more than just a one or two episode stint. Three notable Grey’s Anatomy guest stars have big projects in the works. Read on to find out who’s moved on from Seattle Grace to bigger and better things! Read more »
On Grey’s Anatomy, Dr. Izzie Stevens has been romantically linked to Alex Karev, Denny Duquette, and George O’Malley. In real life, the actress who portrays her, Katherine Heigl, has dated Roswell’s Jason Behr and Blossom’s Joey Lawrence – woah! She is currently married but before meeting her husband, she actually fell for one of Grey’s costars. "When we were filming the pilot I was single and so was he and I kind of had my eye on him. I was getting nowhere and I was super-confused,” she admitted to The Sun, a British newspaper. Read on to find out who Katherine is talking about. Read more »
Today, ABC announced that Grey’s Anatomy would receive an extra hour of programming this season, with a two hour season finale. The season four finale will air on Thursday, May 22nd from 9-11pm ET. That episode will pre-empt Lost, which will return the following week for its own two hour season finale. Grey’s Anatomy received 17 hours of programming this season while Lost received 14. Both shows were affected by the Writers Guild of America strike, which lasted from November of 2007 to February of 2008. Read more »
Private Practice won‘t be returning to ABC until the fall, but in the mean time, fans of Kate Walsh, popularly known as Dr. Addison Montgomery, can catch her when she returns to Grey‘s Anatomy for at least one of the five new episodes slated to begin this spring. Last time we saw Addison walking the hallways of Seattle Grace was in the series debut of the Grey‘s Anatomy spin-off Private Practice, which is this season‘s second most-watched new drama with an average of more than 10 million viewers per episode.  In the Private Practice pilot, Addison said goodbye to Seattle Grace to start a new life and career at the Oceanside Wellness Center in Southern California. Read more »
When I was in college and my professors would hand out the final exams every May, I’d open up my blue book and my first thought would always be, “How the heck am I supposed to remember what I learned back in January?” Luckily, I grabbed my closest friends in the class (or those who seemed to be doing the best) and met up with them earlier in the week for an all out cram session, complete with Wild Cherry Pepsi and fries in the student center. As Grey’s Anatomy prepares to return this Thursday for the first time in 3 months, we’ve prepared a BuddyTV cram session so you feel prepared and right back at Seattle Grace where you belong. Read more »
Previously, on Grey’s Anatomy, George suggested that he and Lexie move in together. McSteamy made a play (unsuccessfully) for Hahn. Fed up with Meredith, Derek decided to give dating Rose a try. George and Izzie struggled to make their relationship work post-sneaking around.Meredith sits anxiously in a therapy session, refusing to open up about her issues. Uh, then what’s the point of going? Meredith says that she’s fine but she just hasn’t been sleeping. When she is paged, she bails out mid-session, without apologizing. Her therapist is played brilliantly by guest star, Amy Madigan, who you know from her work on Carnivale. Read more »
Erica Hahn was a recurring character throughout the first few seasons of Grey’s Anatomy. She is a rival of former Seattle Grace employee Dr. Preston Burke, as the two are both in the field of cardiothoracic surgery. They attended school together at Johns Hopkins Medical School but since they were not friends, not much was ever revealed about her via Preston. Not that he ever revealed much about anything anyway. In this week’s episode, Addison returns to Seattle and finds that Callie and Hahn have become great friends. She even asks Callie if the two are dating. Callie tries to laugh it off but it’s got Grey’s fans wondering… Read more »
Previously, on Grey’s Anatomy, the Seattle Grace resident competed in a surgical competition, which Meredith won.  Cristina was overly jealous with Callie‘s close relationship with Hahn.  George decides that he wants to continue living with Lexie.Bailey is the first to greet Addison and welcome her back to Seattle Grace. Addison reminds her (and the viewers) that she won’t be staying long. Inside, she has an awkward reunion with Meredith and Derek. She is under the mistaken assumption that the two are still together. Sloan propositions her for sex – at least some things haven’t changed. Read more »
As Dr. Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) discovered in last night‘s episode of Grey‘s Anatomy, so much has changed at Seattle Grace Hospital, and yet so little.First, might I comment on how ravishing the newly raven-haired Addie is?Addison‘s return last night did little to advance the plot of Grey‘s Anatomy. Her presence was more of a device that allowed us to stop for a moment and assess the season‘s current progress. I suppose after such a long hiatus, Shonda thought we needed a primer or something. Read more »
Ooh Grey‘s Anatomy, you‘re just starting to get good again.  Don‘t blame me, even Entertainment Weekly admitted that the show tanked a little in season 4.  Now, you‘ve got Rebecca‘s fake pregnancy, Callie‘s sexuality, Meredith and Derek‘s close working relationship, George‘s friendship with Lexie, and many other things to keep me counting the minutes until Thursday nights.  ABC released the episode descriptions for the rest of the season and it sounds like Grey‘s will leave us this season with some shocking revelations and storylines that will keep us talking all summer.** WARNING!  SPOILERS AHEAD! ** Read more »
Tonight‘s Grey‘s Anatomy is all about sex. What else is new? Callie (Sara Ramirez) is still sleeping with McSteamy (Eric Dane) – during work hours in the on-call room, even – and all of the nurses have risen up against him, refusing to assist him in any surgeries. As a result, the nurses have brought in a union rep and a nurse mediator (who turns out to be none other than the Chief‘s wife Adele) to institute a new "date and tell" policy. Now, everyone who works at Seattle Grace who has sex-syoo-uhl relations with anyone else must report it. This strikes me as terribly unethical and unrealistic, but leave it to Grey‘s Anatomy to check reality at the door.Richard (James Pickens Jr.), hoping to prove to Adel that he has learned to delegate more, appoints George (T.R. Knight) to be "the Chief‘s intern," which means that George gets to run around the hospital like the sex police and make everyone fill out forms about whom they are sleeping with. He goes around telling everyone, "The chief needs to know who you‘ve slept with by the end of the day. Be thorough." [click, click of the pen.] Well, to everyone except for Bailey, who is the only one who is exempt. Read more »
In honor of Mother‘s Day, BuddyTV has compiled this list of our 10 favorite motherly moments. This one is probably a bit cruel, and is most likely on this list because of my general distaste for Meredith Grey as a character, but no greater motherly moment came on Grey‘s Anatomy than when Ellis Grey (Kate Burton) temporarily recovered from her Alzheimer‘s only to be horrified by the fact that her once-driven daughter has settled for being a content intern dating a doctor. Read more »
ABC, the number two network in all the land (and only behind FOX because of the Super Bowl and American Idol), had its upfront presentation early this morning.  The network unveiled its Fall schedule, and it‘s pretty hard to get excited about it.  Nothing against ABC – the schedule is good, probably the best, top to bottom, of any network – it‘s just that there weren‘t many openings this time around.  Last season ABC launched eight new shows in the Fall, the most of any network.  For the most part, ABC hit a homerun with Dirty Sexy Money, Pushing Daisies, Private Practice, Samantha Who?, and Eli Stone in the mid-season.Networks rarely have so many returning second-year shows.  Because of this, ABC had very little work to do this pilot season.  There are only two new shows on the Fall schedule, with two more targeted for the mid-season.  Continue reading for a detailed description of the schedule and new shows. Read more »
This week, ABC came through with some big Grey‘s Anatomy news, giving us things to look forward to on upcoming episodes as well as some casting news involving two former teen stars.  One of the things I‘m most excited about was something I caught on a promo after last week‘s episode.  On this Thursday‘s episode, "Haunt You Every Day", Alex is caught off guard when Ava (played by Elizabeth Reaser) returns to Seattle Grace.  This is great news for Grey‘s fans who were left without a resolution to their storyline at the end of last season.** SPOILERS AHEAD ** Read more »
James Pickens Jr. stars as the chief of surgery, Dr. Richard Webber, on the medical juggernaut Grey‘s Anatomy. Without the Chief acting as the hub of the hospital, Seattle Grace would not run as smoothly as it does. Pickens brings over two decades of experience in acting—on stage, in film and on television—to his multi-layered performances on Grey‘s Anatomy, and BuddyTV was lucky enough to have him on the phone today. He spoke about the use of pig intestines when filming his scenes in the OR, what he thinks of Gizzie and how he likes to cowboy it up to unwind when not on the set of Grey‘s Anatomy. Below, you will find an audiofile and a complete transcript of the interview. Read more »
I have been in such Cristina Yang withdrawal lately. She’s been moping around all season, and stands by, silently, every time Erica Hahn passes her over for a surgery. Where‘s the Cristina we used to know and love? Last night, Grey’s gave us a little Burke update, in case anyone was wondering how life after Seattle Grace was treating him. When a newspaper article, about Burke winning the highly regarded Harper-Avery Award, was pinned up on the hospital bulletin board, Cristina was forced to face two realities. The first was that she would only hear of him through stories and news articles. The second was that Burke now behaves as if Cristina never existed, which she realized when he did not even mention her name as a person who helped him reach the pinnacle of his career. Read more »
During their hiatus, due to the WGA strike, the Grey‘s Anatomy actors certainly have had their share of receiving medical attention.  Last week, Justin Chambers (Dr. Alex Karev) checked himself into the UCLA Medical Center after suffering from exhaustion and a sleep disorder.  He stayed a few days before being released.  Kali Rocha (Dr. Sydney Heron) announced that is expecting her first child with her husband.  Now, Eric Dane (Dr. Mark Sloan) had landed on the cover of OK! Magazine for his very serious battle with cancer.  In the issue, Dane opens up to his fans about what he went through. Read more »
On tonight‘s episode of Grey‘s Anatomy, Alex finally learns the truth about Rebecca‘s medical condition and it‘s about time!  I‘m still having a hard time believing that she made the whole thing up.  It seems so unlike her but then again, I guess none of us really get who Rebecca is.  Meredith tries to get out of  therapy and Cristina continues to act out, struggling to get over Burke completely.  More Madonna songs? No such luck.  Tonight‘s episode kicks off with Cristina holding a foreign object in her hand.  A vacuum.  Seems the stress of living in Burke‘s shadow has brought out her need to clean. Read more »
Previously on Grey‘s Anatomy: Bailey would rather save the life of a neo-Nazi than be with her family, Lexie put Meredith in her place again, Gizzie realized they‘re better friends than lovers, and McDreamy got the urge to merge with Rose.Tonight‘s episode of Grey‘s Anatomy is very special, because it‘s the episode for which Chandra Wilson will win an Emmy award. Those annoying Meredith voiceovers are once again being put aside so that Bailey can speak her mind. Seeing as how Bailey is the most awesome character on the show, this is a very good thing. Read more »
Grey‘s Anatomy, for all its faults, succeeds in realistically portraying the huge amounts of mental and emotional pressure that people, especially those in high-stress professions like surgery, endure throughout their lives. We‘re all a little crazy. Sure, the doctors at Seattle Grace often have more outlandish problems than we do in the real world, but the emotions that they portray, the way they reach out (or don‘t reach out) to their friends when they need support, the way their personal lives bleed uncontrollably into their professional lives and vice versa, all of that is so relatable. We‘ve all been in the Dark Place. Read more »
Grey‘s Anatomy has its two-hour season finale scheduled for tonight.  According to ABC, tonight‘s season finale, entitled "Freedom," Meredith and Derek will have one last shot at a successful outcome in their clinical trial.  Other surgeons work together to free a boy from a hardening block of cement. Meanwhile, Izzie helps Alex care for an ailing Rebecca, and Lexie discovers critical information about George‘s intern status.Tonight‘s season finale will surely bring lots of excitement and drama, but what are we supposed to do during the long summer months without any new episodes starring our favorite hot doctors? Well, you can read the Completely Unauthorized Grey‘s Anatomy 101, edited by Leah Wilson.  BuddyTV has four copies of this book to give away. Read more »
On tonight‘s episode of Grey‘s Anatomy, Meredith continued her therapy as she tried to come to terms with her mom‘s attempted suicide during her childhood.  Cristina got her mojo back, courtesy of a sparkle pager.  Alex disregarded all rationale in his attempt to care for Rebecca.  George received a lot more information than he bargained for, courtesy of Lexie‘s photographic memory.  The staff at Seattle Grace came together to save a patient stuck in a very interesting position.  Derek and Meredith worked side by side on the last two patients in their clinical trial.Read on for more details on tonight‘s season 4 finale of Grey‘s Anatomy. Read more »
Ever since the depressing third season of Grey‘s Anatomy, and continuing into this season, the show that I once so loved seemed to have lost its luster. I know this is blasphemy to all the Grey‘s Anatomy faithful out there, but there was way too much emphasis on Meredith‘s inability to commit and Izzie‘s obsession with herself, and not enough girl power or Justin Chambers‘ black wifebeater. But last Thursday‘s fourth season finale of Grey‘s Anatomy changed everything. Shonda Rhimes and company really stepped up and brought us two hours of television that was pitch perfect in almost every conceivable way. (I say "almost" because I still think that Shonda and her merry band of writers still have a Hummer-sized blindspot for Derek Shepherd‘s douchebaggery, but I‘ll get to that in a little bit.) Read more »
For quite some time leading up to the Grey’s Anatomy season 4 finale, fans had been wondering if either Callie Torres or Erica Hahn were actually lesbians. There were the looks, the laughs, the way they were drawn to each other, like part of some exclusive club. Erica had said that Callie was beautiful while Callie tensed up every time Erica was in her presence. Finally, on the May 22 finale, the two kissed – and not just for show. They seem to be a bona fide Seattle Grace couple now. Grey’s creator Shonda Rhimes recently weighed in on the latest work romance to Entertainment Weekly and if the two will be an item in season 5. Read more »
In stark contrast to the third season finale, in which everyone ended up miserable and alone, nearly all the characters on Grey‘s Anatomy finished this fourth season smooching the nearest hot body. And if they weren‘t coupling up, they were becoming more confident and whole in themselves. That‘s part of why the two-hour season finale of Grey‘s Anatomy was so satisfying to watch. I get that loss, heartbreak and emotional torment make for good television, but it‘s also nice to see the characters that we‘ve invested so much time in getting to know succeed once in a while.Read on to take a look at all the coupling that occurred in the season finale. Read more »
This past weekend, Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane and his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, hosted the Chrysalis Awards in Los Angeles. Dane’s friends and co-stars came out to support the event. Two And A Half Men star Charlie Sheen made his first public appearance with his new wife, Brooke Mueller. Grey’s stars could be spotted at every turn. James Pickens, Katherine Heigl, Kate Walsh, and T.R. Knight were all on hand at the awards ceremony and dished on Grey’s finale and future. Read more »
As much as I enjoy watching the antics of the doctors on Grey‘s Anatomy, every Thursday, I count my lucky stars that Seattle Grace Hospital is purely fictional. Our favorite four residents at Seattle Grace were in the midst of a resident competition in last night‘s episode. For two weeks, they lived at the hospital, fighting over surgeries and scoring points for each procedure they performed. But actually, they should all have just given up because they are horrible, horrible doctors. None of them even saw fit to examine Jennifer (guest star Clea Duvall), whose scalp was hanging on by a thread. Here‘s a tip, doctors: If someone is bleeding, examine them! Read more »
