If there‘s one thing every Game of Thrones fan can agree on, it‘s that King Joffrey must die. The twisted teen already got a butcher‘s son and a direwolf killed with his lies, ordered Ned Stark‘s execution, ripped out a minstrel‘s tongue and forced his future queen, Sansa, to stare at her father‘s head on a pike. He‘s essentially as bad as they come.  Read more »

This week on Game of Thrones, Lord Varys tells Tyrion a riddle about three great men and a common sellsword, the answer of which tells us everything we need to know about the show. The point of the riddle is that power is an illusion and that perception is more important than reality. If people see you as powerful, then you are. This is true at King‘s Landing, it‘s true of Renly Baratheon and it‘s true of a dead boy. It may or may not be true for Daenerys, but we don‘t know because she doesn‘t appear this week. Read more »

Much like an airplane flight, this week‘s episode of Game of Thrones should come equipped with a barf bag. We get some incredibly disturbing S&M action courtesy of Joffrey, some brutal rat torture courtesy of the Mountain and a gross and graphic birth scene courtesy of Melisandre. It‘s all brilliant, but it‘s very hard to watch.  Read more »
This season of Saturday Night Live will end with three consecutive new episodes. War is coming on Game of Thrones, and this week everyone steps up their games to take control. Some betray their old friends (Theon), some collect wildfire (Tyrion), some get marriage proposals (Daenerys), and some decide to become assassins (Jon Snow). And after Saturday Night Live made a big joke about how this show is a male fantasy with naked ladies having sex, the female fans of Game of Thrones get some eye candy  of heir very own courtesy of Gendry.  Read more »
This week on Game of Thrones a riot breaks out in King‘s Landing and Joffrey gets slapped for the second time this season. There are also a pair of scenes where characters are faced with beheading a prisoner. One makes the wrong choice (killing a beloved man) and the other makes the right choice (and possibly getting a girlfriend out of the deal).  Read more »
This week‘s Game of Thrones is titled "A Man Without Honor," a name that could refer to any number of characters. There are the men who stole Daenerys‘ dragons. There‘s the Kingslayer, who makes his triumphant (and possibly final) return. Then there‘s Theon, who gets even worse.  Read more »
War is coming to Game of Thrones, and soon. Stannis Baratheon‘s ships are one day away from King‘s Landing, so this week we see everyone preparing for war. Joffrey and Theon are cocky, Tyrion and Varys are consumed with figuring out how to keep playing the game and Robb Stark finally gets laid. As for Jon Snow, I‘m pretty sure he‘s going to become Severus Snape.  Read more »
If you want to know what the best episode of Game of Thrones is, this is it. "Blackwater" is the drama‘s crowning achievement, an episode so singularly focused and brilliantly directed that it puts most movies to shame. There are no sideplots with Daenerys Targaryen or Jon Snow or Robb Stark or Theon Greyjoy. From start to finish, "Blackwater" is about Stannis Baratheon‘s invasion of King‘s Landing, and the winner is a bit of a surprise twist.  Read more »

The Game of Thrones season 2 finale airs Sunday, June 3 at 9pm on HBO, and there are plenty of questions left to answer. Will Joffrey be able to stay in power after abandoning his men in battle? Will Theon Greyjoy be able to hold onto Winterfell? Will Daenerys get her dragons back?  Read more »
The season 1 finale of Game of Thrones brought us the arrival of Daenerys Targaryna‘s baby dragons, so the bar was set incredibly high. Somehow the show managed to top that with a visual so shocking and amazing that I was left flabbergasted. But aside from the arrival of the Whitewalkers, the Game of Thrones season 2 finale provided plenty of new directions for all of the characters, including a wedding, a facelift and a return appearance from a very dead character.  Read more »
