Articles for Firefly Season 1

Gina Torres was known as Zoe Alleyne Washburne on the television series Firefly.  Her character was the second-in-command onboard Serenity, wife of Wash, and loyal friend of Captain Reynolds.  Noted for being a “warrior woman,” she exuded great knowledge of combat.  She lingered on until the end of the series with a total appearance of 14 episodes. Read more »
Alan Tudyk gained fame as one of the main cast members of Firefly.  For 14 episodes, he portrayed Hoban "Wash" Washburne and served as Serenity’s pilot.  As Zoe’s husband, he often expressed jealousy over his wife’s relationship with Captain Mal.  Perceived as a laid-back guy with an occasionally dry sense of humor, he frequently served as a calming influence in heated arguments. Read more »
You just can‘t keep a good super-villain down.  Dr. Horrible‘s Sing-Along Blog, the Internet musical from Buffy the Vampire Slayer mastermind Joss Whedon, was yanked from less than a week after it became available.  The goal was to allow hardcore fans a chance to see it for free, then hope they‘d either buy it on iTunes or wait for the eventual DVD.  Shelling out cash to see Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and Nathan Fillion (Firefly) sing catchy ditties won‘t be necessary just yet, as Dr. Horrible has now reappeared on Hulu and MySpace, with plans to bring it to Yahoo!, AOL and other websites.  If you missed it the first time, now is your chance to witness the online sensation free of charge. Read more »

Earlier this week it was announced that there is a Buffy the VampireSlayer movie in the works. Normally, this would have Buffy and Jossfans in a frenzy of excitement. But there‘s a catch! It‘s not likelythat any of the cast from the hit TV show will be a part of it, andneither will creator/director Joss Whedon. This got me thinking, well what‘s the point? You take away theingredients that made the television show a success, what are you leftwith? The disaster that was the first Buffy film? Or a reinventedsuccess?   Read more »

Saturday night of Comic-Con, at the Entertainment Weekly / SyFy party, my world came crashing down. I‘m a huge fan of Joss Whedon and I‘m generally obsessed with Firefly. I haven‘t had the time to make a fan vid about it yet, but believe me, I will. So, imagine my utter despair as Joss Whedon told me that Firefly is over. "No one‘s ever given me the slightest hope," he said when asked about the franchise. I might be naive, but that‘s not the answer I was expecting. Comic books, straight to dvd, nothing? Read more »
Oh, yes, Whedonites, it‘s happening.  Summer Glau is confirmed to be joining the second season of Dollhouse, which begins on September 25.The folks at Fox confirmed to fan site Dollverse that she‘s doing at least two episodes this season, playing a character called Bennett, who works within the Dollhouse.  And that‘s the least we know.  Read more »
Two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to visit the set of America‘s favorite new show V. Obviously, i was excited to see the spaceship and lizard-alien gadgets but was surprised to find out V films in this huge green screen warehouse. I‘ve seen a big green screen or two in my time but this one takes the cake. But, despite the fact that I didn‘t get to run around on a spaceship, I was able to interview the amazingly talented and wonderfully friendly cast of the new hit ABC series.  Read more »
Earlier today, we tweeted our best birthday wishes to that creative, hilarious, enigmatic and prolific powerhouse Joss Whedon, who turns 46 today, and these 133 characters pretty much sum up our feelings for the guy:Happy Birthday Joss Whedon! Thank you for Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse, Dr. Horrible & your big, brilliant brain! Love, The WorldWe don‘t often think we speak for the world, but in this case we were willing to bet that the world stands with us.As much as birthdays are about celebration and love, they‘re also about reflection. Joss Whedon has accomplished so much in his 46 years, even just in the TV realm: he‘s brought us the many-treasured worlds of Buffy, Angel, Firefly and Dollhouse, put his unique stamp on episodes of Glee and The Office, and taught the Internet what it was capable of with Dr. Horrible‘s Sing-Along Blog. It‘s not an exaggeration to say that without the strong, smart and ass-kicking characters of Joss Whedon, the TV land we love so well would not be the same. So, in the spirit of both celebration and reflection on this, Joss Whedon‘s birthday, we want to know:Who‘s your favorite Joss Whedon hero?  Read more »
Greetings from San Diego! The temperatures are high, the days are long, and self-proclaimed geeks from all over the country are making their way here for the 2010 San Diego International Comic-Con.For newbies, the size of the convention floor can be daunting. Most of the crowds tend to go straight for the big booths (like the WB), meaning a lot of the smaller booths go completely unnoticed. Last year I offered my Preview Night Seal of Approval to one of these smaller booths, and this year I would like to offer the same Preview Night Seal of Approval to another worthy booth: The California Browncoats.  Let it be said that Firefly/Serenity fans are some of the most dedicated at Comic-Con, and The California Browncoats are no exception. This nonprofit organization--started by four devout Firefly fans--promotes Firefly and Serenity fandom while raising money for worthy causes. I did not pick this booth just because I am a Firefly fan; I picked this little booth in the far corner of the exhibit hall because it‘s the only place to pick up incredible (and cheaply priced!) Firefly and Serenity gear. Plus the money you dish out benefits Equality Now, an international human rights organization dedicated to action for the civil, political, economic and social rights of girls and women.  Read more »
Joss Whedon is a busy man. And after yesterday‘s announcement that he will be writing and directing The Avengers, Comic-con goers are still thirsty for more. With a packed Ballroom, he not only talked more about all of his projects but fans were given the opportunity to pick Mr. Whedon‘s brain. Here are some highlights:  Read more »
As a fair percentage of the Castle-watching population knows, star Nathan Fillion has done some other things on television. So it shouldn‘t be much of a surprise that Castle cannot totally contain its star this week. Read more »
Is it just me, or has Castle been getting darker recently? The heartbreak of Beckett‘s mother‘s murder was revisited, and then Castle had to deal with an old friend who turned out to be a killer. The fun is still there, but a dark cloud has been hanging over the show so far in 2011.Things get even darker this week. Read more »
I‘m not entirely sure that Castle star Nathan Fillion was expecting much more than a chuckle when he declared his love for Firefly in an interview last week. If that were the case, however, then Fillion definitely needs to pay more attention to the (over) reactions common to his old show‘s fan base. Because now he‘s got them mobilizing. Read more »
In today‘s competitive job market, it‘s important to be a charismatic, attractive genius with a photographic memory. USA‘s new series, Suits, posits that having such attributes can even get you a coveted position at a top corporate law firm.Far-fetched? Probably. But it‘s TV -- and it‘s fun -- so why not? Read more »
If you‘ve ever dreamt of kicking butt with Buffy in Sunnydale, or going on board the Serenity with Captain Mal, or appearing on Dr. Horrible‘s little video blog, then you owe a lot to Joss Whedon, who‘s celebrating his birthday today! So, happy birthday, Joss, and thank you for sharing your moody, crazy, awesome ideas with us! Read more »
No one expects much from summer programming. Relationship-heavy and plot-light bits of fluff fill the airwaves. That‘s fine, but it does mean an occasional summer-lowering of TV quality. By that rational, USA‘s new legal show, Suits (Thursdays at 10pm), is too good for summer. Much too good. Read more »
You‘re reading this on BuddyTV, which means you‘re probably familiar with all the things we do on this site: bring you the latest in the world of television, from which House star is appearing on The Good Wife to who got the shocking boot on last night‘s So You Think You Can Dance. Yeah, I think you‘re quite familiar with that. So, let‘s see how much you learned this week, shall we? Read more »
With the recent debut of Suits on USA, Gina Torres is back on television. Happy National Nude Day! If you‘re in the privacy of your own home, I think you know the best way to honor this "holiday," which was probably  invented by Big Suncreen to sell more product during the summer. I‘m on to your games, Banana Boat. But since most of us can‘t (or won‘t, or shouldn‘t) shed our clothes for the day, here‘s another, SFW way to celebrate: By watching these classic, clothes-less scenes from some of our favorite comedies. Because as you, I and every TV writer out there knows, naked people are funny. Don‘t worry, most of these scenes have been scrubbed free of anything truly scandalous, since they originally aired in primetime. The most you‘ll see is some bare backside. (One of which belongs to Danny Devito. Eeeuuuugggghhhh.)  Read more »
Whew -- that was one crazy week, yes? Someone broke up with someone. Someone joined CSI. Someone joined Castle. Someone sang on America‘s Got Talent. Someone returned to So You Think You Can Dance. And I have yet to talk about the Emmy nominations... Read more »
The fifth appearance of Chuck at the San Diego Comic-Con definitely counted as bittersweet. Castle had one of the biggest panels on the Sunday of the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con. Although the official Comic-Con program listed only star Nathan Fillion in attendance, most of the Castle cast joined Fillion on the stage. After the panel, those stars spoke with reporters about Castle, Comic-Con and what‘s coming next for the show. Molly Quinn, the young actress who plays Alexis, was among the stars, fittingly attired in a full Captain Reynolds costume from Firefly. Read more »
Even if you were lucky enough to attend the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con, you probably wouldn‘t have gotten into the Castle panel. The line was going strong a full 10 hours before the actual panel, and literally thousands were turned away at the door (myself included). Fortunately, some enterprising soul filmed pretty much the entire panel.  Read more »
The Guild has practically defined success for web series: As of its current and fifth season, the Internet-only show has amassed over 100 million views. Season 5 of The Guild -- one of the Internet‘s most popular and successful series -- has taken its cast away from the comfort of their home monitors and into the wilds of the convention world. The first five episodes covered everything from Internet memes to travel problems, from hotel logistics to Con lines. What could possibly be next?Well, according to episode 6 of the season, the next logical step is the presence of a huge, nerd-friendly celebrity. Like, say, Nathan Fillion. There may not actually be any bigger stars in the geek convention world. So it does make sense for the actor to show up in the newest Guild episode, "Revolving Doors." Read more »

If we can‘t get Firefly back on TV, this may be the next best thing. Adam Baldwin will make a guest starring appearance on Castle later in season 4. Read more »
Adam Baldwin is a pretty big deal in the nerdy world of genre television. Baldwin talked about all of these shows when appearing at the Emerald City Comic-Con in Seattle. Keep reading to check out what he said and to watch a preview for next week‘s Castle episode. Read more »

Keep reading to check out the Castle video clip. Read more »

Con Man started life as a fan-funded project on Vimeo. In season 2, Con Man has moved to Comic Con‘s new streaming platform Comic Con HQ. The move is a perfect one for Con Man as it is now surrounded by like-minded original programming such as the other comic convention comedy, Kings of Con, and other geeky shows like Mark Hamill‘s Pop Culture Quest. Con Man may have the perfect home but it might not be the perfect series quite yet. Con Man is an enjoyable experience but it is filled with inconsistencies, having some high highs and very low lows. Read more »

Every year, television networks cancel many of their first-year shows. Most of these series subsequently fade into oblivion, forgotten by all but the most die-hard of fans. New programming quickly catches everyone else‘s attention, consigning the short-lived failures to Wikipedia entries and DVD bargain bins. But some shows live on long past their premature cancellations. How does a canceled show get to be a Firefly-level phenomenon instead of a The Messengers footnote, or a My So-Called Life instead of a That 80s Show? A couple of factors seem to be key. Read more »
