Among the housewives in Wisteria Lane, Mary Alice Young, played by actress Brenda Strong, is the most mysterious one because only bits and pieces of her story are known.  A loving, doting wife and mother who was generous to her family and neighbors, she was the last person expected to shoot herself in the head.  While she narrates Desperate Housewives from beyond the grave, she is still considered as the matriarch of Wisteria Lane and is the most important character to the show‘s development as it revolves around her sharing the secrets of her friends and neighbors. With Desperate Housewives leaping into a five-year flash forward, fans can‘t help but speculate if it‘s possible to go back to the time when Mary Alice Young was still alive.  According to series creator Marc Cherry, that is something he‘s pondering on. Read more »

The fire is still a big deal, and the Scavo family deals with Porter‘s arrest the way only Lynette could - by lying and doing whatever illegal things it takes to keep him safe. It‘s the perfect way to revive my favorite Desperate Housewives debate: is Lynette the best or worst mother of all-time? I‘m never sure, but I know it‘s definitely one of those two.Desperate Housewives also has several miracles this week, from Carlos regaining his sight to the show‘s gay characters Andrew, Bob and Lee, all getting actual storylines. Of course the gay marriage story is a bit out of date since California voted to ban it. Read more »
It‘s no secret that one of the most-watched weekend shows on television is ABC‘s Desperate Housewives.  For its last episode, “A Vision‘s Just A Vision,” the show managed to score 16 million viewers for the day.  It was the top-rated program of the hour, as studied by Neilsen estimates.  Even though the world knows about the success of the series, there‘s one thing that the show is keeping secret.  It doesn‘t concern torrid affairs or eloping with lovers.  It has something to do with a habit that Eva Longoria Parker can‘t seem to kick.  The actress has finally been caught smoking. Read more »
It seems that the ladies of Wisteria Lane won‘t be running out of hysteria anytime soon.  TV Guide has learned that Desperate Housewives series creator Marc Cherry hopes to extend the ABC dramedy for a total of nine seasons instead of his previously envisioned seven.  The announcement came during a Wednesday cake-cutting ceremony marking 100 episodes of Desperate Housewives. This raises the question of whether ABC will make Cherry‘s dream a reality.  A source told TV Guide that “while the idea of unspooling even more saucy stories for the resurgent Housewives seems a natural, much paperwork — including a formal pick-up from ABC — needs to be in hand first.” Read more »

No matter how you feel about the five-year leap into the future Desperate Housewives did on its fifth season opener, there will be more time travel on tonight‘s episode, the show‘s 100th, called “The Best Thing That Ever Could Have Happened.”  Feeling nostalgic about the so-far successful five-season run and the milestone, Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry decided to go back to where it all started and even beyond. The housewives - Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher), Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman), Gabrielle Solis (Eva Longoria Parker), Bree Van de Kamp (Marcia Cross) and Edie Britt (Nicollette Sheridan) - are seen standing outside the house of Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong), whose suicide launched the series.  After the oft-debated flash-forward, tonight‘s episode will then feature flashbacks that go even beyond the pilot in an effort to show just how the women evolved to how they are today. Read more »

On the last episode of Desperate Housewives, Karen McCluskey (guest star Kathryn Joosten) was annoyed that Wisteria Lane‘s resident handyman Eli (Beau Bridges) had sent out cards to everyone in the neighborhood that she had retired.  Eli, of course, suffered a heart attack and died at Susan‘s.  The girls then met up for poker to discuss the funeral and at the same time reflect on how he had affected their lives.  When the news reached Dave and Edie, they more or less underwent the same journey of recollection.  For her part, Mary Alice realized how she had influenced Eli‘s life.Of course, that episode was also Desperate Housewives‘ 100th episode so Eli‘s death became a perfect opportunity for a lot of flashbacks.  There were also returning characters, such as Martha Huber (Christine Estabrook) and Rex Van de Kamp (Steven Culp). Huber was the snoopy neighbor who first discovered Mary Alice Young‘s suicide, while Van de Kamp is the dead doctor husband of Bree (Marcia Cross) Read more »

Tonight‘s Desperate Housewives is doubly exceptional.  For one thing, it‘s the finale of the series‘ fifth season, which probably leaves us with another cliffhanger for the next installment.  Another surprise that the series has in store is that tonight‘s finale is going to be a two-hour special. For the first hour, the episode titled "Everybody Says Don‘t" takes the screen.  Though it shares a title with a season 2 episode, it‘s possible that it‘s a tentative one for tonight‘s installment.  Gabrielle (Eva Longoria Parker) isn‘t pleased when Carlos‘ (Ricardo Antonio Chavira) family stops by to visit.  What‘s worse is that they ask the Solises to take Gaby‘s niece under their wing.  Read more »

ABC unveiled its Fall schedule today and it features an ambitious lineup of new series to premiere all season long.  The schedule features eight new shows, including a Wednesday night that contains nothing but new programs.  This is identical to the strategy ABC used two years ago when it premiered three new hour-long shows on Wednesdays. The new Wednesday, however, features four new half-hour comedies which I will tentatively title the Back to You reject lineup, as three of the sitcoms star former cast members of that failed FOX sitcom, including Kelsey Grammer, Patricia Heaton and Ty Burrell.  The other big change to the schedule is that Ugly Betty has been bumped to Fridays, wedged between Supernanny and 20/20.More Fall Lineups:FOXABCNBCCBSThe CW Read more »
