The CW is struggling with their Sunday night programming.  This year, the network unleashed two new Sunday shows geared towards a a young, Internet savvy audience, CW Now and Online Nation.  CW Now is a confusing concept in which a bunch of good looking younger people tell viewers what is “now,” i.e. what is cool that week.  Online Nation is like a YouTube highlights show, focusing on the biggest viral videos and online nonsense of the week.  Airing in the 7 o‘clock hour last night, neither program broke 900,000 viewers.  Yikes.  The big winner of the night was, as per usual, Desperate Housewives, even though it did lose over a million viewers from last week.  Read more »
On the fourth season premiere of ABC‘s Desperate Housewives, one of Wisteria Lane‘s famous female residents uttered a throwaway attempt at humor that has caused a widespread uproar from Filipinos everywhere.  Teri Hatcher, who plays Susan Mayer, quipped a reference to the professional skills (or, in the case of her remark, the lack thereof) of Philippine-trained medical practitioners. The remark sparked indignant protests from outraged Filipinos and sympathizers who accused Desperate Housewives and the people behind it of racial slur and defamation.  Bowing to the relentless protests since the airing of said installment, ABC and the executives of the show have been forced to issue an apology for the offending line in their show. Read more »
On NBC‘s Sunday Night Football last night, my Seattle Seahawks took on the supposedly terrible New Orleans Saints.  The Seahawks continue to punch their fans in the stomach and lost in what can only be described as a putrid effort.  The ratings for Sunday Night Football reflected that, with the broadcast averaging 7 million viewers, about half of what it did last week.  I chalk it up to America‘s east coast bias.  In other Sunday night news, Desperate Housewives is once again the dominant show, winning the overall crown as well as proving unbeatable in the key demos.  I still can‘t get over these Seahawks, though.  I don‘t blame you, America.  I wouldn‘t have watched either if it wasn‘t for hopeless hometown optimism.  Read more »
His love life may not be as publicized as his Desperate Housewives co-star and onscreen spouse, but Ricardo Chavira is just as happily spoken for as Eva Longoria.  The man who plays Carlos Solis on the ABC show finally swapped “I dos” with his longtime girlfriend last month in literally down to earth fashion, markedly contrasting the recent real life nuptials of his Desperate Housewives partner. Chavira‘s wedding had been a nicely kept secret until the actor decided to confirm it to Entertainment Tonight last week. Read more »
According to the Mary Alice voiceover, this week‘s Desperate Housewives is gonna be about pests. Catherine‘s aunt, Lily, has come home to Wisteria Lane to die. Desperate Housewives is now one of the latest casualties of the controversial writers‘ strike.  Marc Cherry, creator of the ABC dramedy, admits that he and his writing team have honored their fellow Writers Guild of America members and come out on strike.  Unfortunately for fans, this could signify an early end to the current season of the show. Actress Joy Lauren is worlds apart from her character on ABC‘s Desperate Housewives, so when she found that she was going to be in the center of the show‘s teen pregnancy storyline, she knew she would be facing a tremendous challenge. “[It was] definitely something I‘ve never experienced before — I‘m not really angst-ridden and I‘m not pregnant — so it was definitely a stretch for me to play!” Lauren, who portrays Bree Hodge‘s (Marcia Cross) notorious daughter Danielle, told TV Guide. Read more »

The December 2 episode of Desperate Housewives, in which a tornado wreaked havoc on Wisteria Lane, has left viewers speculating as to who survived the natural disaster, as well as who else perished.  Show star Felicity Huffman, whose scream at the end of the episode proved chilling for those who tuned in, has weighed in on the matter, joking that her character‘s rowdy children should be the ones to bite the dust. "I wanted some of Lynette‘s kids to die; is that terrible to say?" Huffman asked USA Today.  "They‘re all lovely little actors, but there‘s such anticipation that all of Lynette‘s family won‘t make it back." Read more »
Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria (or, should I say, Eva Longoria Parker) has found herself in what appears to be a instance of high-stakes jealousy.  Rumors began swirling recently that Longoria‘s new husband, San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker, cheated on Longoria with a French model.  The rumors stem from some MySpace messages supposedly written by Parker, inviting French model Alexandra Paressant to his hotel room in Paris.  Paressant also supposedly showed an on line gossip site some text messages between herself and Parker.  Longoria and Parker quickly came out and denied the claims as pure rubbish, saying that their marriage is happy as ever and that this French model is a unreliable source. Read more »
ABC has finally announced an air date for the latest episode of Desperate Housewives.  Fans will still have some waiting to do, however, as the highly-anticipated installment won‘t be airing until early next year. The episode, which will reveal to viewers who else died in the tornado that devastated Wisteria Lane on December 2, is set to hit the airwaves on Sunday, January 6.  Unfortunately, this could be the last new episode for the season, that is, if the WGA strike does not reach a settlement soon. Viewers still have something to be happy about however, as a source tells TV Guide that the upcoming episode promises to be a good one. "It‘s even better than the last," the source said.  "It‘s super-gripping, it addresses so many storylines, and it answers so many questions that viewers have been asking all season."Another thing that viewers can be happy about is some juicy spoilers, and for those who can‘t wait until January 6 to find out who lost their lives to the tornado, keep on reading. Read more »
When accused of adultery, you can‘t just issue a standard denial these days – you have to sue the bastards who gave a voice to the accuser.  Tony Parker, the husband of Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria, has shot back at reports he cheated on Longoria with French model Alexandra Paressant by filing a $40 million lawsuit against the gossip site X17 Online for giving Paressant a platform to air her accusations.  The lawsuit claims the alleged affair never happened, and that Parker has never even laid eyes on Paressant, let alone slept with her.  Parker and Longoria have been steadfast in the denial of the affair and have publicly made clear that their marriage is as strong as ever. Read more »

Working on both television and films has made Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria Parker aware of the vast difference between the two industries. While television has proven to be fast-paced and demanding, Parker likened her days on a movie set – which, most recently, was of the new comedy flick Over Her Dead Body – to a “vacation.”“Television is such a machine and it‘s really efficient and really fast.  It‘s a lot of work when we do Desperate Housewives; you don‘t have any time in your trailer and you‘re just constantly going back and forth, back and forth -- it‘s a lot of work in one day.  We do 14 pages [of script] in a day,” Parker told  “Then I would go to the movie, and it was like vacation.  It was more like two pages a day.  I‘d watch movies in my trailer.  I was crocheting.” Read more »

ABC, the number two network in all the land (and only behind FOX because of the Super Bowl and American Idol), had its upfront presentation early this morning.  The network unveiled its Fall schedule, and it‘s pretty hard to get excited about it.  Nothing against ABC – the schedule is good, probably the best, top to bottom, of any network – it‘s just that there weren‘t many openings this time around.  Last season ABC launched eight new shows in the Fall, the most of any network.  For the most part, ABC hit a homerun with Dirty Sexy Money, Pushing Daisies, Private Practice, Samantha Who?, and Eli Stone in the mid-season.Networks rarely have so many returning second-year shows.  Because of this, ABC had very little work to do this pilot season.  There are only two new shows on the Fall schedule, with two more targeted for the mid-season.  Continue reading for a detailed description of the schedule and new shows. Read more »

Last night‘s season 4 finale of Desperate Housewives ended with the show jumping forward five years into the future. It‘s a tricky move for a TV show to make, but by now, enough shows have done it that there is a precedent. Though it‘s impossible to tell whether the move will be good or bad based on the few seconds we saw last night, Desperate Housewives would be wise to look at how other shows have made this jump for research. While the one year leap at the end of Battlestar Galactica‘s second season or the two missing years from the end of the second season of Alias are comparable, the fact is that Desperate Housewives is essentially copying exactly what One Tree Hill just did this season. Read more »
