Desperate Housewives returned strong this Sunday, landing seven-million viewers above nearest competitor "Cold Case" which equates to a clear win for the lurid drama.Desperate Housewives premiered to a 14.6/21 on ABC at 9 p.m. The season premiere of CBS‘ "Cold Case," 9.7/14, edged "Sunday Night Football," 9.6/14, for second. FOX stayed in fourth with "Family Guy," 5.7/8, and "The War at Home," 4.0/6. "Top Model" held steady for The CW. Read more »
The last time the Desperate Housewives set attacked was in April when an odd set of circumstances ala Rube Goldberg left star Teri Hatcher with light-bulb shards in her eyeball. Apparently, the spirits of Universal‘s back-lot, which doubles for Desperate Housewives interiors, are not at peace just yet.Desperate Housewives most conniving Eva Langoria, who was already bonked on the head by a falling pipe last season, slid down the stairs of her trailer and wound with some bruised ribs. The acerbic star is said to be recovering with no difficulties. Read more »
TV Blend has a blow by blow recap of last night‘s Desperate Housewives episode, entitled “Tequila Sunrise”. There were, apparently, a plethora of ingested margaritas during the episode, hence the “Tequila” title. As I‘ve stated before, I think it‘s time for television writers to scrap the whole “characters getting drunk, thus allowing them to be brutally honest with each other” trick. Grey‘s Anatomy did it earlier this year, and countless other shows have used the tactic in the past. Read more »
Desperate Housewives aired an episode last night in which someone, presumably, got shot. Now, I don‘t know if this is true or not, as I did not watch the episode. Nothing against Desperate Housewives, I just don‘t have the time to add another serial to my plate. Every episode I‘ve watched has been entertaining, even when I had no idea what was going on. TVSquad has a detailed look at last night‘s proceedings. Read more »
Desperate Housewives is a program where I‘m going to have to stay on the fence. Frankly, I don‘t have time for more television on Sundays, what with NBC Sunday Night Football, The Amazing Race, Family Guy, The Simpsons, 60 Minutes and, you know, sleep. I‘ve tuned into a couple of episodes during its three-year run and, while I had no idea what was going on, Desperate Housewives seemed confident in itself, its identity, and didn‘t take itself seriously, which is a quality that should be admired in any TV drama (And, yes, drama, not comedy. It‘s not a comedy. A show that occasionally makes you smirk is not a comedy. I laugh more during CSI, especially when David Caruso is involved.)Last night‘s episode was apparently a doozy, according to TVSquad. What‘s more important (to me at least), is that the man, the myth, the legend, one Ernie Hudson, is now on Desperate Housewives. Why wasn‘t I notified about this? Read more »
After analyzing the most recent two weeks of Nielsen television ratings and reviewing the BuddyTV FPR (Fan Popularity Rankings), many interesting observations and trends pop out. The numbers have come out and...they‘re pretty much what everyone expected. If you aren‘t familiar with the term, "Sweeps" are the bi-annual time periods where advertising rates are set based on the strength of ratings. During November sweeps, the networks roll out their best stuff, rarely show a rerun, and often resort to extreme measures to rope in viewers. As expected, ABC won sweeps, and pretty handily. NBC and CBS tied for second, however, and this is a pretty large upset. NBC had fallen into fourth place last year, but it looks as if it‘s new batch of shows has helped push them back to respectability. Another factor is NBC‘s new Sunday Night Football, which brings NBC ratings while hurting ABC, who had Monday Night Football last year.  Read more »

The latest press release for the upcoming episode of Desperate Housewives hints at some interesting things developing in the fabled community:Lynette and Tom struggle to overcome challenges as Pizzeria Scavo prepares for its grand opening, Gaby can‘t seem to get away from her secret admirer, and the new neighbor on Wisteria Lane reveals a devious plan. Read more »
Starting today, we will have a Desperate Housewives recap on every Monday that follows a new episode. So, Orson‘s ex-wife, Alma, orchestrated a way to get him into her bedroom with the help of his mother (I‘m having a hard time accepting Dixie Carter as the spiteful mother when she played such a nice character back in the day on "Different Strokes"). They tricked him into coming over thinking that Alma had tried to kill herself. Then they drugged him with sleeping pills and Viagra so that Alma could "have her way with him" in an attempt to have his child. Silly woman. Read more »
Desperate Housewives was by far my favorite show during its inaugural season. I followed the story line of the mysterious body in the box with a vengeance, but I have to agree with the many critics who said its sophomore season was somewhat of a letdown. As I watched the 2007 Golden Globes I was interested to see who would win the category for Best TV Series - Musical or Comedy. I‘ve been impressed by season three‘s comeback and am once again enjoying the 9PM Sunday time slot. But I wasn‘t sure if they were Golden Globe worthy. I would‘ve loved to see either The Office or Entourage win. June‘s Entourage season premiere can‘t come fast enough, but I‘ll talk about that another time. I just want to go on record as a huge fan. Read more »

I‘m not sure why they keep tacking on "musical" to this comedy category. Has there ever been a musical series on TV, every episode full of song and dance? Is Barney the Talking Dinosaur considered for this category? I‘m not opposed to prime time musical series, but writing songs is hard. I just don‘t see twenty-two episodes working logistically. The five comedies nominated in this category each come with their own merits. I don‘t agree with all the nominees; there is one whose nod actually makes me visibly angry. In fact, I‘m repeatedly punching a metal wall right now. Broken hand aside, I‘m actually pretty pleased with the nominees for two reasons I‘ll get into in a moment. First, check out the nominees after the jump.  Read more »
The nominees for the Screen Actors Guild awards were announced today and, as always, prove to be a nice barometer of who really deserves these end-of-the-year acting nominations. Since SAG is comprised of actors, there is no group more qualified to dole out acting awards than them. Therefore, I trusts these awards and nominations more than any other acting nominations. This is not to say I don‘t disagree with some of their choices. I do. My biggest qualms actually come from their film nominees, but we won‘t get into to that. The nominations in each TV category are after the jump, with commentary.  Read more »

Last night‘s episode of Desperate Housewives was, for the most part, a study in desperation. Seeing as Desperate Housewives has the word "desperateâ€? prominently featured in its title, this thematic choice might seem obvious. Sunday‘s Desperate Housewives was different, though. Appropriately, each happened during what should have been a relaxing vacation.  Read more »
