With the departure the Behavioral Analysis Unit‘s best profiler, Special Agent Jason Gideon (Mandy Patinkin), fans are eager to see what‘s in store for the new season of Criminal Minds.  Tonight, the elite FBI team, which now includes Agent David Rossi (Joe Mantegna), will be returning for a third season as it digs deeper into the twisted psyche of a serial killer on the loose. Nicholas Brendon, known for playing Xander on the cult hit Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has landed a guest-starring role on CBS‘ Criminal Minds.  Although the network has yet to issue a statement, Brendon‘s official website confirmed his appearance on the show late last month. Brendon will reportedly play a computer expert named Kevin Lynch who becomes part of the investigative team.  The website states there is a possibility the 36-year-old actor will appear in more than one episode, but this will all depend on how fans respond to his character. Former child star Frankie Muniz has been tapped for a guest role on CBS crime drama, Criminal Minds.  According to the network, the 21-year-old actor will play a famous comic book artist who finds himself in the middle of an investigation involving a serial killer in Los Angeles. Muniz rose to fame when he was cast in the family sitcom, Malcolm in the Middle.  On the show, he played Malcolm, the accidental child prodigy of Hal (Bryan Cranston) and Lois (Jane Kaczmarek).  Many of the show‘s episodes revolve around Malcolm trying to cope with being a whiz kid and leading a normal social life. Read more »

As Criminal Minds tramples onto the coming episodes, viewers will learn more about Joe Mantegna‘s character, Supervisory Special Agent David Rossi, who returns to the FBI‘s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) from his early retirement.  While his character may have some adjustments to deal with, the 59-year-old actor is also trying to make his transition to the crime drama series as smoothly as possible. Comedian Jamie Kennedy will be giving up his prankster antics in exchange of a huge dose of suspense when he makes a guest appearance on CBS‘ Criminal Minds.  The 37-year-old actor is expected to appear on Wednesday, November 14 in the episode entitled “Lucky.”Prior to landing his guest role on Criminal Minds, Kennedy was known for playing Randy Meeks in the Scream trilogy of horror films.  As a performer of stand-up comedy, Kennedy was best known for his sketch performances on his television reality show, The Jamie Kennedy Experiment.  His other credits included Kickin‘ It Old Skool, Malibu‘s Most Wanted, and Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, among others. Writer David Mamet has been an significant force in actor Joe Mantegna‘s career. When Mamet‘s Glengarry Glen Ross was adapted into Broadway, Mantegna was cast in the role of salesman Ricky Roma, and his portrayal earned him a Tony Award.  Now, as the latest cast member of CBS‘ Criminal Minds, Mantegna says that his character was molded after the ones that have been featured in the works of Mamet. “David very often instilled in his characters the idea of what he described as ‘the excellent man,‘” Mantegna told the Chicago Tribune‘s The Watcher.  “Everyone falls short of it, but the excellent man is really just trying do to the best he can under the circumstances, that‘s all.  That‘s all any of us can hope to do.  When we were talking about the character, somehow that came to my mind.” Read more »

Tonight, fans will have to endure a repeat episode of Criminal Minds entitled “Scared to Death” in which Hotchner and the team track down a serial killer who exploits his role as a psychiatrist to find out his victims worst fears, then uses them as means to kill.  Nevertheless, CBS will serve its viewers two new episodes in the next two weeks. The writers‘ strike has sadly left CBS with a nearly empty cupboard of fresh episodes and continues to take its toll on one of the highly rated series of the network, Criminal Minds.  As previously reported, the network has made some substitutions in its scheduling broadcast, replacing several new episodes of the crime drama with some reruns. Most recently, the network aired a rebroadcast of the third season‘s “About Face” episode on December 19, 2007 instead of the first-run “3rd Life,” which is the 11th episode of the season.  Four weeks after airing the 10th episode “Birthright,” CBS finally sets the date of the deferred episode of Criminal Minds. Read more »
Kirsten Vangness, star of CBS‘ Criminal Minds, is appearing in an upcoming big screen production called In My Sleep.  The film revolves around a man who suffers from a mysterious sleeping disorder that causes him to commit acts while in deep slumber, and upon waking, has no recollection of them. Kirsten Vangsness, who portrays audio visual technician Penelope Garcia on Criminal Minds, will appear in the film as a woman named Madge.  In My Sleep also stars Philip Winchester as Marcus, Lacey Chabert (Party of Five) as Becky, Tim Draxl as Justin, Abigail Spencer (Angela‘s Eyes) as Gwen, Kelly Overton as Ann, Beth Grant (Jericho) as Evelyn, Michael Badalucco (The Practice) as Derek and Tony Hale (Arrested Development) as Ben. Read more »
The yet-to-be resolved WGA strike has left many cast and crew members of several shows with a good amount of free time, and Criminal Minds actress AJ Cook has been taking advantage, using her unexpected break to catch up on things she normally wouldn‘t be able to squeeze into her busy work schedule. "I‘ve been a good little housewife — decorating the house, put up the tree, did a little Martha Stewart making crafts — just doing stuff I don‘t normally get to do," Cook told the Ventura County Star.  "I‘ve been doing a lot of reading and writing. It‘s funny; you just seem to be busier when you‘re not working somehow — I don‘t know how that works." Read more »

Criminal Minds is back!  The perpetrator-profiling crime-solving series returns tonight with its first new episode since the resolution of the writers‘ strike.  As an added treat, tonight‘s installment features a special guest from one of the most popular cult shows of the late `90s. Criminal Minds was among the first programs back at work immediately after the scribes returned from their hundred-day picket.  Cast and crew were back in production a mere three days after the end of the impasse.  They are scheduled to complete a total of seven new episodes for this current third season, before going on a short break, and then returning to work anew to do a whopping 27 installments for next season. Read more »
