ABC claims that LOST finally tamed CBS to seize the hotly contested 9pm time slot for competitor Criminal Minds. In ABC‘s press release, the victory was not only solid but had a little ring of finality to it:“Lost” won its time period and ranked as the No. 1 TV program of the night in Adults 18-49 for the 5th straight week (on each of its telecasts this season), defeating second-place CBS’ “Criminal Minds” in the slot by 35% (6.6/16 vs. 4.9/12). However, Zap2it has an assessment of the Wednesday night battle that would warm CBS‘s heart: ‘CBS Tells ABC to get LOST‘. Criminal Minds has added win number two to its Wednesday night score card proving, again, that the one time LOST dominated slot belongs to CBS. The network showed a lot of faith in the crime-drama, mostly due to its strong casting and fast fan following that developed over its first season. One look at lead Mandy Patinkin’s resume is like a retrospect on successful prime-time dramas, among them Law & Order, Chicago Hope, Boston Public, ER, Touched by an Angel, and the quirky cable success Dead Like Me. To say Patinkin’s blessed to be a part of these shows may be a misnomer, it might just be this guy has the Midas touch.CBS is no stranger to making bold moves with its programming schedules. In the 2005-2006 season they used CSI: New York to dethrone another time-slot squatter, Law & Order. During that same season, Criminal Minds maintained strong numbers against LOST, but the gap led many to believe that a move might benefit the show. TVSquad is reporting that CBS has decided to place an episode of Criminal Minds in the coveted post-Super Bowl time slot. This is an interesting decision, given Criminal Minds demographic (which tends to skew upwards) and that show‘s already steady ground regarding viewers. You‘d think that Criminal Minds would have nearly reached it‘s ratings potential; there‘s just not much more to gain.The sophomore comedy How I Met Your Mother, was rumored to be the front-runner for this time slot, but apparently the CBS brass has thought better of it, although I can‘t imagine why. Read more »

January is upon us, 2007 has begun its tyrannical, 300-plus day reign, and our favorite TV shows will no longer bludgeon us with repeats. Tomorrow, January 3rd, brings the return of a couple of our favorites, as well as two brand new shows.After that, the flood begins, and over the next month virtually every original program will air new episodes.
