What is the BuddyTV Guide App?
The BuddyTV Guide App is a sophisticated universal guide with support for various universal remotes.
What does the BuddyTV Guide App do?
The BuddyTV Guide App is a sophisticated piece of technology that aggregates TV content from many different sources including Cable and Satellite providers,
Netflix and many more coming soon. It also enables you to find what you want to watch as quickly as possible all the while giving you the ability to tune in with various devices.
Can I use the BuddyTV Guide App to watch TV?
The BuddyTV Guide App is designed to help you find what to watch, and to then tune into it. If what you want to watch is on cable or satellite,
the BuddyTV Guide App cannot help you watch that on your device (ex. iPhone). If what you want to watch is on one of the supported streaming services
(currently Netflix and Amazon, more to come...), one of the options provided when you tap the TUNE IN button is to watch it on your device.
What cable and satellite providers are supported?
The BuddyTV Guide App supports any cable or satellite TV provider in the United States.
How does the BuddyTV Guide come up with my recommendations?
If we told you, we’d have to kill you. It’s a secret! Well, kinda. Here’s what we’re doing behind the scenes: we take
all the information you give us like favorite shows, what you watch, how you rate shows and we generate our recommendations based on that.
We also include what critics like, what other users like, and mix it all together with our own special sauce. Let us know if you think
it needs some tweaking by tapping on the Feedback button within the app or .
What TV equipment is the BuddyTV App compatible with?
The following TV Equipment is compatible with the BuddyTV Guide App:
- AT&T U-verse Receivers
- Google TV (1.0 and 2.0)
- TiVo Premiere or TiVo Series 3 DVR
- Samsung Connected TVs, Limimted to the following models:
- Models released in 2010 with Internet@TV feature,
- Models with serial number greater than or equal to LCD 650, LED 6500 and PDP 6500,
- TVs released in 2011 with AllShare feature,
- Models greater than or equal to LCD 550, LED 5500 and PDP 5500
- Note: Your Samsung TV must have "Wireless Remote Control" listed under "Setup" of TV "Menu" turned on.
- If "Wireless Remote Control" cannot be found, the TV Remote function is not available.
What devices does the BuddyTV Guide App run on?
The BuddyTV Guide App runs on the following devices:
- iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4
- iPad, iPad 2
- iPod Touch 3rd Generation, 4th Generation
- Android tablets and smartphones
- Google TV
My remotes are not working, what can I do?
The most common problem users run into, is that your device (ex. iPhone) and the TV equipment (ex. Google TV) you’re trying to control are
not on the same network. This is common especially with iPhones because they will switch from Wi-Fi to 3G. One way to prevent this from
happening is to disable cellular data on your iPhone while using it as a remote control. Another common reason for this is that your device
switches to another Wi-Fi network that may be available. When troubleshooting make sure your device is on the same network as the equipment.

I don't like the shows the BuddyTV Guide App is recommending, why are the recommendations wrong?
Typically this is because we have very little information regarding your TV preferences. If this is the case, please be sure to favorite, rate, tune-in,
and add shows to your Watch List to get the best recommendations. If you feel like you’ve already done this, provide feedback via the button in the app
How can I request a feature for the app?

How do I change my TV line up?
You can change your TV lineup via the Settings Page. Tap on the Settings button (gear button) at the top of the app.
Select Provider from the list and follow the instructions.
What if I don't see my cable or satellite provider in the list for my zip code?
The BuddyTV Guide App should have TV listings for all cable and satellite providers in the United States. First, make sure you entered
the correct zip code. If you did, you should know that the list of providers scrolls...your provider may be below the fold.

How do I get reminders for my favorite shows?
The BuddyTV Guide App provides two types of reminders. The first is your own customized calendar feed which can be included in the
calendar on your device. The second uses Push Notifications to send you reminders right before your show is going to air. Each,
the calendar notifications and push notifications, require you to opt in. These opt-ins happen the first time you attempt to add
a show to your Watch List. If you are still not getting notifications you can follow these steps to check that push notifications are enabled:
- Tap on Settings
- Tap on Notifications
- Verify that the Notifications switch is ON
- You should see the BuddyTV Guide App icon in your list of approved applications to notify you
- Tap on the icon to view what you’ve approved for the BuddyTV Guide App
- Make sure you’ve enabled how you want the app to notify you (Sounds, Alerts, and Badges)
If you’re still not receiving push notifications, it’s possible you don’t have any shows on your watch list. Add shows you want
notifications for and be sure to opt in for notifications. If you are still having issues please tap on the Feedback button within the app,
or email .
Follow these steps to check to see that the calendar feed is enabled on your iOS device:
- Click on Settings
- Tap on Mail, Contacts, Calendars
- Click on Subscribed Calendars
- You should see “My BuddyTV Shows” as one of your calendar feeds.
If you don’t see the calendar feed, it’s possible you don’t have any shows in your watch list. Add them and be sure to opt in for notifications.

How can I change the channel on my TV using the App?
There are a number of ways you can change the channel on your TV using the BuddyTV Guide App. If your TV equipment is supported by the
BuddyTV Guide App, you can easily tap to tune. Please be sure that the TV equipment you wish to tune is currently selected on the remotes
page. You can also use the remote control interface to change channels just as if you were using the original remote control.
What is the difference between favoriting a show and giving it five stars?
The main difference is that if you favorite a show, it will show up in your Favorites Quick List on the App’s homepage. Having that show in
your Favorites Quick List will enable easy access to the show to view upcoming airings. We’ll also factor in that it is marked as a favorite
when we’re creating your recommendations. Rating shows helps to tune the recommendations. For example, if there’s a show you don’t want to
see in your recommendations, rate it 1-star, on the other hand, if there’s a show you love, rate it 5 stars, you’ll then start to see shows
like it in your recommendations.
I don't get premium channels, why are they showing up in my recommendations?
We’re working on a feature to enable you to remove channels you don’t receive or don’t want to watch. Hopefully, if you had those
channels, the recommendations would still be accurate for you.
Why do I need to log in / register with BuddyTV to use the BuddyTV Guide App?
Registering to use the app helps us sync your favorites, recommendations, and settings across multiple devices.
This means that whatever device you’re using, you’ll get the same, fast, accurate recommendations you’d get anywhere.
How do I see all the season data for a show?
It’s simple! Search for your favorite show and tap on the tile of the show and then tap on the show name. The Show Page
has all the season data including, episodes by season, original air dates, synopses.
Is there a faster way, other than swiping, to get to a specific time in the grid?
Yes there is! Tap on the day of the week (Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thur, Fri, Sat) in the Top Left corner of the Listings page.
That will bring up a day time selector. From there just make your pick and let the Listings reload with the time you selected.
Is there a way to filter the grid by genre?
Indeed, you can use the filter wheel at the top of the grid. You can swipe it to change the selected genre.
The filter is on All Genres by default. Switch it to whatever you’re in the mood for to see what’s on!
What is the difference between filtering on the All Channels grid and filtering on the Suggested grid?
When you filter on the suggested view, the app will only display the results of the filter giving you one list of shows per time
slot. However, using the filter on the All Channels view will highlight any airings that match the genre that you selected in the filter.
Should I tap the TUNE IN button even if I don’t use it to control my TV equipment?
Yes. BuddyTV uses this information to create more accurate recommendations for you. Without knowing what you watch we are just guessing what you’ll want to watch.
How do I search for my favorite shows?
To search using the BuddyTV Guide App simply tap on the magnifying glass in the top right corner of the app.
Tap on the search bar and then type in the name of your show. Tap on the Search button in the lower right corner to complete the search.
Once your show is in the search results, tap on it and heart it to have it show up in your favorites.
How can I tell a show tile is a new airing of a show or a rerun?
In the Airing Now view (the homescreen of the app), there will be a small orange NEW icon on the show tile. If you’re looking at the QuickLists in
the bottom half of the Airing Now screen you’ll also be able to see the NEW icon on programs that are brand new. Finally, you can also see whether
or not a show is new on the grid page. Tap on the show and then there will be the orange NEW icon on the Airing page.
How do I link my account with Netflix?
If you opted not to link your account with Netflix when you logged in you can still link your account via the Settings Page. Tap on the Gear button in the
top right corner, that will bring you to the Settings Page. All you need to do now is tap on the button next to Netflix to begin the linking process.
Linking with Netflix will allow you to tap to tune on your device.
