If the season 2 premiere of Bates Motel is any indication of what‘s to come, the show‘s focus is going to stretch beyond the dysfunctional bond between mother and and son. True, season 1 introduced a variety of characters and situations to counterbalance  the trauma Norman incurred each time he was aroused by seeing his mother in her underwear. But the obstacles they faced still had them working in tandem. Unlike last season, it looks like there will be a greater emphasis on how Norma and her son function independently of one another. Another possible recurring theme throughout the show‘s sophomore season could be whether several of the primary characters will prevail in their struggles to let go of the past and embrace the present. In particular, for Norma the opportunities for happiness are there, but it‘s questionable whether she will be able to get out of her own way. Trying to predict what Bates Motel has in store for its fans is as difficult as foreseeing the plot twist in an Alfred Hitchcock film. Read more »

This means viewers get to continue to watch Norman‘s transformation from a nice, sensitive boy into a mentally unstable psychopath. Romero continues his investigation into Miss Watson‘s death in light of the new evidence. And Norma alienates George.Even though it was Dylan and Norma who provoked Nick Ford, it‘s Norman who pays the price. He‘s abducted from his home in the middle of the night, taken into the middle of nowhere in the pouring rain, smacked around a bit and thrown into a box. If Norman did have a moment of clarity regarding his role in the death of Miss Watson, what consequences does he face?
