Articles for 24 Season 9

Jack Bauer and 24 are back tonight. No, really, the character and show aren‘t just back ... it‘s as if they‘ve never left.If there are things about 24 that bugged you in the final few seasons, they‘re going to continue to bug you. But if there are things that you absolutely loved, from the breakneck pacing to the seemingly superhuman that is Jack Bauer, you‘re going to continue to be very, very satisfied -- just as I was when watching the two-hour premiere of 24: Live Another Day. Read more »
As I said in my review earlier today, it‘s as if 24 never went off the air in so much as Live Another Day takes the best (and worst) parts of the show and brings them forward four years later. What‘s different, however, that I avoided spoiling in that review? Jack Bauer is unhinged and is not only working to stop a terrorist attack, but he‘s actively working against the United States government for the first time ever. His reason for stopping it is more personal and less about duty, but it‘s no less exciting or thrilling -- just as you‘d want it. Read more »
We still haven‘t skipped any hours yet, as producers promised, knowing that this "season" of 24 was going to only be 13 episodes. But it‘s probably a good thing since a lot goes down in this week‘s hour.We get to learn quite a bit more about this year‘s villain (or villains), learn more about how similar Kate and Jack are and finally start to see Chloe back to being Jack‘s most reliable and trusted friend. Read more »
Not a lot "happens" in this week‘s episode of 24: Live Another Day, but that‘s clearly by design. This episode has one purpose and one purpose alone ... to show how lame of a character Naveed is.No, wait. It‘s also designed to get Jack to trust Kate. Maybe because he had no other choice, but for this miniseries to work, it can‘t just be the Jack and Chloe show. Read more »
Over the course of nine "seasons" on television, it‘s naturally going to be difficult to maintain the element of surprise. This week‘s episode of 24: Live Another Day feels like one of the more predictable episodes in a good long while, but at least the characters started to see things only moments after me.Even though I could predict the various plot beats of the episode, this week‘s episode still remains highly watchable, especially with the more emotional moments that the show sets up, earns and delivers on. Read more »

Jack Bauer fans were ecstatic when the trailer for 24: Live Another Day first aired during the 2014 Super Bowl. It featured a gun toting Jack, a punked out Chloe, and the people of London running for their lives in the background. Now that we‘re halfway through Jack‘s crappy day, is the show giving the fans what they‘ve been longing for? Is it living up to our expectations so far?I say heck yeah and here‘s why:  Read more »
I‘m honestly not sure what to think of this week‘s episode of 24: Live Another Day. It contains so many 24 cliches that I normally abhor, but somehow, this episode winds up being highly watchable and manages to surprise me in a number of ways. But best of all -- it sees the return of Jack Bauer into the field while working as an agent of the United States government. Read more »
In previous seasons of 24, I usually forgave terrible middle episodes because by the time we were four or five episodes away from the finale, it picked up the pace. Now that we‘re in a much, much shorter season, we shouldn‘t have to get terrible middle episodes, right?Wrong. And that‘s kind of what we got tonight as we arrive at the mid-point of this shortened "season."  Read more »
The summer started off with a bang with the return of Jack Bauer in 24: Live Another Day.  While we‘re all excited to tune in on Monday nights to get our weekly dose of Bauer awesomeness, we can‘t ignore the fact that he‘s not carrying the show alone. The cast of female characters are just as fun to watch, making fan girls glued to the screen every episode. So what makes the women of FOX‘s 24: Live Another Day so awesome? Read more »
I didn‘t realize it at first, but apparently, this week‘s episode of 24: Live Another Day is the 200th episode of 24, if you‘re counting this as merely a continuation of the original eight seasons. Knowing that as I watched the events unfold made me think something big, huge and monumental was going to happen.Stuff DID happen. And someone did die. But it still felt like vintage 24. Even with some absolutely incredible performances -- and we‘ll get to that -- this still felt like a by-the-book episode of a show that has truly lost the ability to shock and awe us. Read more »
Every season of 24 typically had at least one or two major story twists. It was the moment when that season‘s "big bad" was revealed to have been working for a "bigger bad." (Sometimes that "bigger bad" worked for an "even bigger bad.")Tonight, we finally got that shift with only a few episodes left in this limited season. And it looks like an existing character was the ultimate bad guy all along with his eyes on something way, way more important than drones.  Read more »
Throughout nine seasons of 24, Jack Bauer has faced many foes. He‘s defeated terrorists from virtually every country in the world and taken down about a hundred government moles. But there‘s one bad guy who stands head and shoulders above all others, one villain who has hurt Jack Bauer more than anyone else. And this week, he‘s back!  Read more »
Last week, I watched 24: Live Another Day the day after it aired. I was on vacation and couldn‘t recap the episode. Of course -- of course I would happen to miss the one episode that re-introduced Cheng! While I was disappointed I missed the chance to write a recap on that great twist, I was excited that I would get to cover the next episode. But after this week‘s, I‘m feeling pretty meh. I kind of don‘t like the direction the story takes in this episode. I‘m now way less enthusiastic about the finale next week, even if I am intrigued to see how they‘ll cram 10+ hours into one episode of television. Read more »
I haven‘t loved Live Another Day, but I‘ve enjoyed quite a bit of it -- even this week‘s finale. But that ending. I. Hate. It. I way prefer the original series ending, which was almost as depressing in its own right, but also at least held out some hope or acknowledgement that this is what Jack deserved. Or maybe even wanted. Read more »

On Sunday‘s The Strain, "Creatures of the Night," we saw a major character killed off after a failed attempt to rid of him of the worms that cause vampirism failed and he was gunned down, with permission, by a new member of his group. This was a shocking turn of events since we‘re in the middle of the first season and while this character is by no means the lead of the show, he was one of the co-leads. He, however, is not alone in being a major character to die early--and by early, we mean in the first season of what are multiple-season shows. Read more »
