Sexual orientation has historically been a hot-button issue. Fox News drew much ire from gay right advocacy groups for its negative reportage of America's Next Top Model's first transgender contestant. One series that has always been accepting of different sexual orientations is Torchwood and its predecessor Doctor Who, which feature John Barrowman as the bisexual Captain Jack Harkness.
For his part, the star of BBC sci-fi series Torchwood John Barrowman is comfortable about being dubbed the next Sir Ian McKellen. In the UK, the Scotland-born, US-raised West End regular is being touted to take the place of the iconic actor who is beloved and accepted by everyone regardless of generation. In a recent interview, the Torchwood star said he could go from hosting a children's show on one hand to “talking about his crotch on late-night TV the next.”
