Ramon Rodriguez was born in Puerto Rico. He was raised in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York. He is an actor best known for his roles on two television series, the HBO Maryland-set drama The Wire and the ABC thriller Day Break as Damien Ortiz. He takes delight in all types of music especially Latin Jazz, Salsa and R&B. This music enthusiast can also play the piano very well. His favorite food is the very American peanut butter and jelly sandwich arroz con habilchuelas, a Spanish dish.
Rodriguez attended high school in Michigan where he spent his 11th and 12th grade playing basketball. Fast forward to college, he also played basketball at Wheeling Jesuit University for a couple of years. He next attended New York University where he earned his degree in sports management. His athletic nature and musical abilities combined for a very interesting, that saw him work for Nike, the New York Knicks, basketball performance groups, salsa dance groups such as the Abakua Latin Dance Company, and playing instruments, such as the piano and the conga.
Previously, Rodriguez also appeared on television shows including Law & Order, Rescue Me, and Always There to name a few. Aside from being an actor, he is also a professional dancer. Meanwhile, he is also quite prolific in his career in film and television. Starting out with an appearance on Saturday Night Live as a teenager, plus commercials and performances, he was also cast on such films as Pride and Glory, Bella, and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and the lesser known ones, such as The Wannabe, Ira and Abby, 5G, and Harlem Hostel, all made after 2005.
Rodriguez is also a published writer, counting Mambo and Newsweek among his credits. Bound Magazine, in print since 2003, has published his work and pictures.
