Keeping Up with the Kardashians Trivia Now known as Kris Jenner, the matriarch of an extended family that is prominently featured on the reality series Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Kris Kardashian began her life as a television personality. Born Kristen Mary Houghton on November 5, 1955 in San Diego, California, she became widely known for her decadent social life.
Her first marriage was with lawyer Robert Kardashian. The two Californians married on July 8, 1978, and raised four children: Kourtney, Kim, Khloe and Robert Jr. Shortly after the birth of their only son, the two separated, with Kris filing for a divorce, which was finalized in 1989. Later her former husband would rise to prominence during the controversial O.J. Simpson murder trials, but before that, she already married Olympic gold medalist Bruce Jenner in 1991. Their marriage led to the birth of two more daughters, Kendall and Kylie, and to her becoming a stepmother to Bruce’s children from his previous marriages.
With the rising prominence of her children, especially Kim, Kris found herself back in the spotlight in the 2000s. She became known to younger viewers as the matriarch of the extended Kardashian-Jenner family in the reality series Keeping Up with the Kardashians, which premiered in 2007. The series, while centering on Kim, also focuses on her work as a manager for both Kim and Bruce, as well as part-owner of Smooch, a clothing boutique she set up with her oldest daughter Kourtney in Los Angeles.
