Kiefer Sutherland was born on December 21, 1966 in London, the son of successful Canadian actors Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas. His family then moved to Corona, California; he later went with his mother to Toronto, Canada, after his parents’ separation. There, he took his studies, spending his college years at different colleges in the area.
To date, Sutherland has appeared in over 70 films, the first being the 1983 comedy/drama Max Dugan Returns. He was nominated for a Genie Award, the Canadian equivalent of the Oscars, for best actor for the film The Bay Boy. His more notable films include The Lost Boys, A Few Good Men, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, Young Guns, Flatliners, The Three Musketeers, Stand By Me, The Vanishing, A Time to Kill and The Sentinel. However, he is more known for his television work, especially as Jack Bauer in the action series 24.
Jack Bauer is the series’ main protagonist, a key member of the Counter Terrorist Unit in Los Angeles, where he tries to prevent major terrorist attacks despite the tremendous personal price he pays for his job. He is also known for his intense interrogation techniques and his proficiency in weapons. Audiences were drawn to the program’s intensity, while critics applauded its novel technique—an entire season shows the events of one day, one hour at a time—and Sutherland was honored with different acting awards. He won an Emmy, a Golden Globe and two Screen Actors Guild Awards throughout his run on 24.
Sutherland’s more recent film credits include Dead Heat, Taking Lives, Phone Booth, River Queen and Mirrors. He also provided the narration to the television film The Flight that Fought Back, about one of the planes that crashed during the 9/11 attacks. He also owns a recording studio and record label, Ironworks, based in Los Angeles.

-Do I think it's important to the show that Jack eventually dies and does so when you least expect it? Yeah. It will be very obvious when people start going, 'Oh, please. How many bad days can one guy have?'
-When you're a young actor you like to go for characters with a bit of flair, so in many films I ended up playing the weirdos. I can assure you I'm not a psycho or a criminal or a bully.
-I like chatting with people. If people ask me a direct question, I give them a direct answer and I feel I've always done that with the press.
