Born in Los Angeles, California on October 3, 1983, Tessa Lynn Thompson is a young American actress who started out participating in many theater productions in her alma mater, Santa Monica High School. As a young girl, Thompson was exposed to acting and stage performance and is a descendant of a family of performers. Her father is a singer and songwriter and her grandfather was an actor and musician.
Tessa Thompson was previously an active member of the Colony Theater in Burbank, California. She is, however, best known for her debut role as Jackie Cook in the UPN/CW drama series Veronica Mars. During the second season, she became a regular cast member of the show. She later got a guest spot on the TV show Cold Case, portraying the character Paige 'Billie' Ducette. In 2006, she landed her first movie role as Scarlet in the thriller When a Stranger Calls. This enabled her to work with Camilla Belle, Katie Cassidy, and Tommy Flanagan. She also appeared on the hit ABC medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, as the niece of Dr. Richard Webber, played by James Pickens Jr.
Thompson later got a part in the 2006 TV movie The Initiation of Sarah, where she played the character Esme. She later rose to even more fame in the short-lived CW series Hidden Palms. Her character is that of Nikki Barnes, a rehab patient whose family turned their back on her. Thompson later appeared on the film Make It Happen, a dancing film starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead. There are many other projects lined up for her, including The Human Contract, Periphery, Red & Blue Marbles, Mississippi Damned and Everyday Black Man.
Other than acting, her interests are dancing, cheerleading and choreography, and sports like tennis, swimming, volleyball and surfing. She has also appeared in theater, even being nominated for an NAACP Image Award for her stage performance as Juliet in Romeo and Juliet: Antebellum New Orleans 1836 with The Theatre at Boston Court.
