Biography

Sean Maher was born April 16, 1975 in Pleasantville, New York. He attended Byram Hills High School and graduated with a drama degree in 1997 from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. He pursued further theater studies with The Collaborative Arts Project Twenty-One, Shakespeare Scenework, the Experimental Theater Wing, the Playwright’s Horizons Theater School and the Tisch School of the Arts in London. He appeared in television shows like Party of Five and The $treet prior to landing the role of Dr. Simon Tam on Joss Whedon’s Firefly.

Dr. Simon Tam, played by Sean Maher on Firefly, was among the best physicians on Osiris until he spent his entire personal fortune to rescue his younger sister, River, from the Academy where she was being hurt. Against their parents’ wishes and at the expense of his medical reputation, Simon managed to break River out and together, became fugitives from the Alliance, aboard the ship Serenity.
