Biography

Canadian actor Kim Coates was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1959, and is well-known in the entertainment industry for his work in both Canadian and American television series and movies. He is also a familiar face in theatre, appearing on Broadway as Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire. He has taken on the lead role in the Stratford Theatre production of Macbeth as well. Expanding his ever growing list of credentials, he has received international acclaim and great critical reviews.

Kim Coates has gotten roles on numerous television productions, including the NBC miniseries Hercules, Disney’s Scream Team and Thoughtcrimes with Joe Flannigan. Earlier on in his career, he landed guest roles in Miami Vice, Night Heat, Diamonds, and the films Cold Front and Blind Fear. During the 1990s, he was cast in Red Blooded American Girl and several episodes of the series Street Legal. Coates has over 40 films to his credit, some of them being blockbusters. He was on the Michael Bay-directed The Island, and Pearl Harbor, the remake of Assault on Precinct 13 and Hostage with Bruce Willis. Coates later landed roles on Black Hawk Down, directed by Ridley Scott, and on 2003’s Open Range with Kevin Costner. He has also taken on a role in the award-winning series Fallen Angels, also starring Bill Pullman. Coates’ performances have earned him Gemini nominations for Best Actor in a Featured Supporting Role and another for Best Performance in a Guest Role Dramatic Series. These were garnered when he appeared on Dead Silence and The Outer Limits respectively. His other credits include a recurring role on the series Prison Break, on CSI: Miami, and Cold Case. In 2008, he joined the cast of Sons of Anarchy as Tig. That year, he worked on Late Fragment, Hero Wanted and the TV movie A Gunfighter’s Pledge.
