Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith) rules McKinley High with his girlfriend Quinn Fabrey (Dianna Agron), the stunningly beautiful captain of the nationally known cheerleading team "The Cheerios". Quinn is also the president of the Christ Crusaders (also known as the Celibacy Club). When glee club director Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison) overhears Finn singing an R.E.O. Speed Wagon song in the locker room shower, he aims to get him to join the glee club. After planting a small packet of marijuana in Finn's locker and "finding it", Mr. Schuester blackmails Finn into joining the club.
Finn comes to love performing but has a hard time when he realizes how low on the social ladder the other glee club students are. He constantly struggles between his desire to be part of the team and his desire to remain popular. Quinn is dismayed that he is hanging out with the "losers" and urges him to quit and stop "slumming it" but he refuses. When Finn decides to stay in the group, Quinn and her best friends and fellow Cherrios, Santana Lopez (Naya Rivera) and Brittany Pierce (Heather Morrison), join the club so that she can keep an eye on Rachel Berry (Lea Michele), who she thinks has a crush on her boyfriend.
Shortly afterwards, Quinn tells Finn that she is pregnant with his child, even though they never had sex. She claims it is because they made out in a hot tub and sperm "can swim". Finn tries to become responsible and wants to do the right thing for Quinn and the baby. He tries to earn money and takes Quinn to her prenatal appointments. However, when her parents discover her pregnancy, they throw her out of the house and she moves in with Finn and his mother.
It is later revealed that Finn is not the father and that the baby's real father is Finn's best friend and football teammate Noah "Puck" Puckerman (Mark Salling). Quinn and Finn break up and he begins to have an on-again off-again relationship with Rachel while Quinn has a short relationship with Puck before deciding to put the baby up for adoption.
Rachel is not the only glee club member that has a crush on Finn. Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer) also finds Finn attractive and this raises struggles with homophobic behaviors for Finn. Things get even more complicated when his mother Carole (Romy Rosemont) and Kurt's father Burt (Mike O'Malley) become engaged and they all move in together. Ultimately, Finn learns to accept Kurt and confronts his homophobic teammates when they pick on him. At Carole and Burt's wedding, Finn dedicates and sings the song "Just The Way You Are" at the wedding reception to show Kurt how much he respects him and welcomes him into their family as a true brother.
"Can't you see how screwed up I am about this? I've had two girlfriends and both have cheated on me!"
"I have no idea what's going on in this script, and it's not in a cool "Inception" kind of way."
