Weeds is clearly going to roll with some big changes when the fourth season airs on June 16. Comedian Albert Brooks will be stepping in as Nancy's estranged father-in-law, while
Tonye Patano (Heylia James) and
Romany Malco (Conrad Shepard) have been downgraded from regulars to recurring cast members. You can read more about these on
this previous article. On top of that, the Showtime dark comedy is reportedly adding
Julie Bowen to the upcoming plot.
Nothing is officially yet but
TV Guide's Michael Ausiello is confident about the
Weeds casting news. Bowen, who is perhaps best known for her role on the television series
Ed where she played high school English teacher Carol Vessey and the love interest of the protagonist Ed Stevens (Tom Cavanagh), is said to play a cradle-snatching single mom who "befriends" Nancy Botwin's (
Mary-Louise Parker) son, Silas (
Hunter Parrish).

Ok, I was really pissed about Romany Malco not coming back and flammed these boards with how this show has ...

I'm prepared for the absolute worst for season 4.
Initially, Bowen's character on
Weeds will forge a friendship with the 17-year-old teen but, in due course, the two will also develop an attraction towards each other.
Although Bowen's most extensive TV exposure is credited to the comedy drama
Ed, which ran from 2000 to 2004, the 38-year-old is most recently recognized for her role on
Lost as Jack Shephard's (
Matthew Fox) ex-wife Sarah. She has also been cast as attorney Denise Bauer on
Boston Legal, which she became a part of for almost two years.
Meanwhile,
Weeds isn't Julie Bowen's only upcoming acting gig. The actress is also slated to work on a comedy film directed by Tim Allen. The upcoming movie, which is called
Crazy on the Outside, also stars Sigourney Weaver (
Alien, Ghost Busters),
Ray Liotta (
Smith, Goodfellas),
Kelsey Grammer (
Frasier, Back to You),
Jeanne Tripplehorn (
Big Love), J.K. Simmons (
The Closer, the
Spider-Man movies), and Tim Allen (
Home Improvement,
The Santa Clause films) as well.
