FOX has already ordered nine new shows
to air during the 2013-2014 TV season: five comedies and four dramas. And they already gave early renewals for the vast majority of their current shows, but one struggling drama had yet to receive a verdict -- until now. Touch
has been cancelled and will not return for a third season.
The Kiefer Sutherland starring drama was renewed for a second season last year, even after already-declining ratings. After its return (and a move to Friday nights), its future didn't look any brighter, averaging only 2.68 million viewers, which is down from 3.8 million for the season 2 premiere. The most recent episode received 2.22 million.
This means that the finale airing on Friday, May 10, is now the series finale.NBC Renews Parks and Recreaction for Season 6 >>>The CW Renews Nikita and The Carrie Diaries >>>CBS Renews Criminal Minds for Season 9 >>>
But there's some good news to come out of this. Now that Sutherland is free of his contract with Touch
, FOX is looking to revive his previous series 24
, the drama that played out storylines in real time, with each episode taking up one hour in a day. He's is already in "early talks," according to Deadline
, to reprise his role as Jack Bauer. If picked up, 24
would return as a limited series, as the network is looking to pick up shows with shorter runs.24
went off the air in 2010 after eight seasons. Rumors have been rampant ever since on a possible movie, but nothing ever happened. If FOX revives the show, it will "start from scratch with a new story arc." And Howard Gordon is expected to return as showrunner.
