I had the opportunity today to go to The CW Network where I watched the fall finale of The Secret Circle, entitled “Balcoin,” and then sat down with executive producer Andrew Miller and actor Gale Harold (Charles) to discuss what we can expect when the show returns in early 2012.

The episode ended with a bit of a cliffhanger, but also answered a few of our questions (as well as left us asking a whole lot more!). My lips are sealed about the bombshell that was dropped at the very end, but I won’t be silenced for long — you can see the episode in full Thursday, November 10 at 9pm on The CW.

What I can tell you is it has twists, turns, and Gale Harold looking dashing in a suit.

At the end of the episode, Andrew Miller and Gale Harold sat down for a chat.

The first thing we can count on for the return of the show in January is that Jake (played by Chris Zylka) will be returning, but Miller couldn’t say for how long he will stay.

Can Jake be trusted?
“I think Jake would sacrifice the whole circle… It feels to me like he’s still kind of an enigma. I think the truest thing about Jake is what Faye sees in him… that he really does care for Cassie, but I don’t know where that leads him because he’s a weird guy, that Jake. Handsome, but weird” offered Miller.

You will find yourself changing your mind about him several different times throughout the final episode and will still be rendered unsure by the end of it. The problem, as Miller brought up, is the relationship dynamic between Jake and Isaac (JR Bourne). “I think there is a hold Isaac has on Jake. Isaac has a lot of confidence and I think that over the last two years their relationship has grown,” said Miller, describing the relationship as a little father/son and a little mentor/mentee, which makes it difficult for Jake to break away from, emotionally. “Isaac knows he can control him, so there is no need to kill him.”

What is going to happen with the Cassie/Adam/Diana triangle?
Miller told us that Diana has proven she made up her mind about moving on and not trying to mend the relationship between her and Adam. We will even see her interest piqued by another guy — Melissa’s cousin to be exact — in the next episode.

We have also seen how Adam handled the break up, but in January it looks like he will be moving on as well. “Guys are dumb for the most part,” joked Miller. “I think when Adam lets [Diana’s decision] sink in he’ll kind of have no choice but to say ‘There’s this girl everybody keeps talking about me being destined to be with,’ and ‘What does that mean?’ and ‘If nothing is going to happen with the tall, pretty girl over there, maybe I should look at the short blonde girl’.”

The drama on the show is not just with the kids of Chance Harbor, but also with the adults.
We will see the consequences of memory-altering spell Charles (Gale Harold) has put on Jane (Ashley Crow). We will also see how the power the crystals have over Charles and Dawn (Natasha Henstridge) is similar to the power The One Ring had over Frodo, which might be hinting at what is to come with their relationship.

Harold discussed the arrival of some of the mysterious elders, including his character’s own mother (who will be played by Stephanie Kramer). “Dear old mom, She’s on her way” Harold said with a smirk. “Charles’ mother has got some issues to resolve – or to start because we’ll resolve them later… We’ll slap each other around for thirty-five seconds, and then she’s gonna leave. So, yeah, she’s coming, she’s pissed, and she’s very good at covering that. As far as how it relates to the other elders I’m not sure, but it makes Charles very nervous because in a sort of existential way he wants to be, I think, in possession of that kind of power.”

Miller continued by talking about how Charles has very different, very complicated relationships with the women in his life, and things will not be getting less complicated for the poor guy any time soon.

While this half of the season is wrapping a few things up, I think the second half is going to explode with things we barely got to see in the first half. The elders are coming, crystals are being located, secrets are being revealed, powers are getting stronger, and things are just generally heating up in the small town of Chance Harbor.

How do you think this first half will end? What do you want to see in the second half of The Secret Circle? Sound off in the comments!
