Laura Jane Silverman was born on June 1, 1966. She is a native of Bedford, New Hampshire and is the older sister of Sarah Silverman. Silverman grew up to be an actress who starred in Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist. Her other appearances include those in Home Movies, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Half Baked, Family Guy, The Comeback, and The King of Queens.

Laura Silverman plays a fictionalized version of herself in The Sarah Silverman Program on Comedy Central. She plays Sarah's responsible younger sister, who is a registered nurse. She devotes most of her time taking care of Sarah since their parents died when they were young. She then became the primary support of Sarah, even paying her sister's rent because Sarah's laziness and immaturity was getting in the way for her to get a job and support herself. Laura also likes Jay and soon falls in love with him.
