The Apprentice star and business mogul Donald Trump is currently developing a new reality show for the Fox Network.
The series, which has been named Lady or a Tramp, will feature a group of girls who trade in their very active nightlife for a charm school crash course on how to become well-behaved women.
In talking about the process of selection for the show’s participants, Trump told the Washington Post on Thursday that “the best casting will be by going into the various clubs and picking them out. That’s when you really see somebody in terms of what we’re doing.”
He added, “It’s hard to cast someone when they’re in a [casting] line, [but at clubs] you can pick a whole room of them. Unfortunately, who knows that scene better than I do? Somebody’s got to do it.”
The new reality competition is actually an adaptation of the British reality series, Ladette to Lady, which brought a group of women to Britain’s Eggleston Hall charm school. Although there is still no definite format for Lady or a Tramp, RDF USA CEO Chris Coelen claims it will bear some resemblance to the original series, with The Apprentice star “hopefully” giving the participants some lessons on how to change their lifestyle for the better.
Coelen asked Trump to help his production company develop the reality series because he was impressed with the compassion Trump displayed in dealing with former Miss USA Tara Conner.
“That kind of experience and that kind of interest and passion make him the perfect guy,” Coelen said. “He’s been through it… He’s a guy who, like it or not, stood up and said, ‘This is screwed up and we’ve got to do something about it.”
In addition, Coelen plans to use Lady or a Tramp as a way to show that “as fun and crazy as (the nightclub scene) is, there’s also a loneliness about it.”
Trump is also optimistic about what the series has to offer viewers.
“I love the concept,” The Apprentice star said. “It’s in a way very entertaining, but it’s very educational, because a lot of young women are going to learn from it, just like Tara Conner. I got literally thousands of letters from people thanking me for the Tara Conner thing — not only people her age, but older… I think this can be highly educational, in terms of young women that are going wild… there are thousands of young women like that, who destroy their lives before they get a chance.”
