Supernatural‘s primary focuses are on hunting monsters and the brotherly love between Sam and Dean. But occasionally the Winchesters find time for love. While Dean seems to be a wounded man-child, closed off from his emotions, Sam has proven himself to be much more open.

Over the course of 12 seasons, we’ve seen Sam in several relationships and all signs point to the fact that he’d probably make a pretty great boyfriend. He’s smart, a little nerdy and he’s willing to talk about his emotions. If you don’t believe me, here are eight Supernatural episodes you can binge-watch to see exactly what kind of boyfriend Sam would be.

Season 1, Episode 1: “Pilot”

It’s always fun to go back to the very beginning, before Sam got into the family business, to see him as a loving college boyfriend to Jess. He was cute and who could resist a Stanford man.

Season 1, Episode 19: “Provenance”

One of the few episodes where Sam got a girlfriend of the week, this early episode showed him connecting with art gallery owner Sarah Blake and revealed their instant chemistry on a dinner date.

Season 2, Episode 20: “What Is and What Should Never Be”

In Dean’s dream universe created by a djinn, we see Sam as a normal and loving boyfriend to Jess. It almost makes you wish he wasn’t a Hunter because he could’ve been a great boyfriend if not for the monsters.

Season 2, Episode 17: “Heart”

The ultimate episode that shows Sam is bae, his relationship with Madison the werewolf is intense, romantic and everything you could want. Oh, and there’s also the matter of his biceps.

Season 4, Episode 9: “I Know What You Did Last Summer”

Sam’s blood-sucking romance with Ruby was definitely a low point for him, but there’s something kind of appealing about a guy who can have chemistry with any woman, even an evil demon, as shown in the flashbacks about how the two became a couple.

Season 7, Episode 3: “The Girl Next Door”

There’s nothing sweeter than your first love, and this episode revealed flashbacks to young Sam, who was a heartbreaker even as a boy, when we saw his first kiss.

Season 7, Episode 8: “Season 7, Time for a Wedding”

Sure, Sam only married super fan Becky because of a potion, but who can blame her? Why wouldn’t you want Sam as a supportive and loving husband?

Season 8, Episode 1: “We Need to Talk About Kevin”

If you want to know whether a man would make a good boyfriend, look at the way he treats animals. Sure Sam hit a dog with his car, but his concern over that dog and his eventual desire to take him in as his own was what started his relationship with Amelia.
