'Prison Break' Villain Becomes More Vicious

prison breakAside from new cast members, Prison Break season three will be returning with a promise of a meaner and nastier villain in the form of Robert Knepper. The 47-year-old actor has hinted at the Monte Carlo Television Festival on what fans might expect with his ferocious come back.

Robert Knepper, a native of Fremont Ohio, is currently playing Teddy “T-Bag” Bagwell on the action-suspense series Prison Break. Described by TV Guide as "one of the creepiest characters on television," he has successfully established his presence on the show as a criminal who shows little remorse for his offenses.

“There’s that old saying, you can never have a good show without a good villain, but I always say it’s just down to good old-fashioned storytelling,” Robert Knepper said at the Monte Carlo Television Festival. “You can’t have a good hero unless every step of the way somebody’s in his way and especially for the first season T-Bag was always in Michael’s way.”

T-Bag has played a major part in season one’s main plot and has stirred in a different direction in season as a separate subplot. So far, his crimes include battery, assault, attempted murder, murder, rape, and kidnapping. However, according to Knepper, none of these acts can compare to what’s in store for his character in season three. Driven by his disappointment at failing to have the family he so desired, T-Bag is about to become even meaner.

“I call the writers and asked, ‘Are you sure you want to do this?’ They said, ‘You thought you saw Teddy being a madman before, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet’,” the Prison Break actor said.

Although Knepper’s villainous character has now catapulted him to fame, he initially struggled with minor roles in movies such Young Guns II and Made in Heaven. He never imagined that he would eventually fill in the shoes of the now infamous bad guy.

“When I first read the script, I thought that they’re never going to cast me because I don’t have tattoos and I was afraid I didn’t look tough enough. So I grew a goatee and I kept playing with it because I’m not gay, and I was trying to find ways to play him. So I would look at them like a piece of steak and that would make my mouth water and that’s when my tongue started twirling over the lip. So now they write ‘T-Bag does that thing with his tongue’ — it’s official,” he recounted.
