UPDATE: The CW has renewed One Tree Hill for season 7. Click here for more details.
Mark Schwahn appears to be one of the busiest showrunners on television. The
One Tree Hill creator writes nearly every episode of his series, which is practically unheard of in the world of television, and has also cranked out a couple of movie scripts during his downtime on the show. According to
The Hollywood Reporter, Schwahn will soon find himself even busier after signing a trio of production deals, one of which guarantees he'll be sticking with
One Tree Hill for another year. This makes the chance of
OTH having a seventh season very likely, assuming the cast is willing to sign up for one more year of dramatic angst.
The deal that keeps Schwahn in place on
One Tree Hill is with Warner Bros. TV, while the others are with CBS Paramount Network TV and CBS Records. The TV pact, which begins in June, will allow Schwahn to develop new series projects over the next two years. One idea he's working on is for a show set in the music industry, though no specific plans have been revealed. "Warner Bros. has been a wonderful home," Schwahn said in a statement, "but CBS Paramount embraced the entrepreneurial spirit of what I'd like to do."
The deal with CBS Records will be Schwahn's first venture into the music business, which is a lifelong dream for the former band member. The pact will allow him to launch his own music imprint, which Schwahn hopes to use to champion young musical talent. "It really comes from a pure place," he said. "I'm a fan of music, I feel I have a good ear for it and I would love to be able to help shine a light on new artists and new music even more than what I can do via
One Tree Hill."
Though
One Tree Hill hasn't officially been renewed for a seventh season by the CW, talks are currently under way to sign the cast up for another year. The show has been a solid performer in the ratings and holds on to
Gossip Girl's numbers every week, so renewal is probably inevitable.
