A lot of hype has been buzzing around NBC’s revved up Knight Rider series, which is currently drawing publicity for its sexy and action-packed promos, fresh cast and all new K.I.T.T.  Curious fans will finally find out if the remake can really live up to the original series that starred David Hasselhoff as high-tech modern-day knight fighting crime Michael Knight when it kicks off on September 24 at 8pm, serving as lead to the network’s Wednesday evening lineup.

But before that, you can catch the successful pilot telefilm, which resulted to a Sunday night primetime victory for the network and paved the way for Knight Rider series pickup.  According to Universal Media Studios, the pilot telefilm will be coming to DVD on September 9.

Originally aired on February 17, the Knight Rider television movie served as a sequel to the 1982 TV series of the same title.  While the original series centered on a modern-day “knight” in the form of Michael Knight (David Hasselhoff), who drove an advanced smart car with artificial intelligence, the new version of Rider centers on Mike Tracer, Knight’s son who never knew his dad.

This series stars Justin Bruening as Mike Tracer, the estranged son of Michael Knight who in turn becomes the new Knight Rider.  Also featured are Deanna Russo as a former girlfriend and current love interest, Wayne Kasserman as his roommate and friend, and Val Kilmer as the voice of K.I.T.T.

Inside the DVD, which runs 81 minutes long, you can find several extra features such as an audio commentary featuring executive producers David Bartis, as well as cast members Justin Bruening and Deanna Russo.  There will also be featurettes such as “The Icon Reborn,” “K.I.T.T – From 2000 to 3000,” “Knight Rider – Legacy,” and bunch of previews for the new TV series.
