Family-centered shows are not uncommon in today’s airwaves, with reality series like VH1’s Hogan Knows Best, a show featuring professional wrestler and entrepreneur Hulk Hogan and his family, and Gene Simmons Family Jewels, a show featuring KISS member Gene Simmons and his clan, drawing in high numbers for their respective networks.
Recently, E! launched their own family-centered reality series, Keeping Up with the Kardashians. For 26-year-old socialite Kim Kardashian and her family, having their own reality series gives them the opportunity to expand their public image.
“What sets us apart is that even though we grew up with privilege, we all work,” she told the New York Post. “I am so stereotyped into being this Hollywood girl… I’m excited for people to see how normal we are.”
This Kim claims even in the midst of controversies brought about by a sex video allegedly featuring her, and nude photographs of her and sister Kourtney Kardashian that were taken when they were still minors.
Despite all the controversy, however, Kim believes Keeping Up with the Kardashians will attract many viewers, mainly because of the size of their family and the relationships between each of them.
“I think what’s really interesting about our family is there are so many of us,” she told the New York Post, providing the tabloid with the quick run down of the family members.
Kim is the daughter of the late Robert Kardashian, a prominent Los Angeles-based attorney known for being one of O.J. Simpson’s defense attorneys, and Kris Jenner, now married to former Olympic athlete Bruce Jenner (Skating with Celebrities).
From Robert and Kris’ union, Kim has three siblings – 28-year-old sister Kourtney, 22-year-old sister Khloe and 20-year-old brother Robert, Jr.
Also appearing on Keeping Up with the Kardashians are 10-year-old Kylie and 11-year-old Kendall, both of whom are the offspring of Kris and Bruce, as well as Bruce’s two children, 24-year-old Brody and 25-year-old Brandon, from his previous marriage to actress Linda Thompson.
All in all, eight very diverse characters from Kim Kardashian’s household grace the small screen every Sunday night.
“It’s very chaotic at all times, but at the end of the day, we love each other so much and we are each other’s best friends,” Kim told the New York Post.
Although Keeping Up with the Kardashians was filmed mostly at Kris and Bruce’s home in Calabasas, California, Kim actually resides in her own condominium in Beverly Hills, California.
