Well, never say never! When Disney brought up the idea of High School Musical 4, stars Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens said there was no way that they would do another movie. Both wanted to move on, take on more mature roles, and focus on being something other than Troy and Gabriella. Money talks, though, and it’s got Efron considering keeping his East High jersey on for another film. According to Life and Style Weekly magazine, the HSM star has named his price to reprise his role as Troy Bolton. “Zac is thinking in the $8 million to $10 million range but it depends on how the movie opens and how desperately they want him back,” a source told the mag. That’s quite a pay raise, considering he’s pulling in $3 million for High School Musical 3, which is to set to his theaters nationwide this October.

Despite the fact that High School Musical 3 is about the gang’s senior year, Disney is still optimistic that they can get some of the major cast members to return. “Are we going to have all the cast back? Probably not,” Disney Channel Worldwide president Rich Ross said back in April when the film was first announced. “Will we have some of them? I hope so.” It is conceivable that one more film could revolve around them. If the third movie ends with graduation, the fourth could focus on their last summer together before they go their separate ways. The fourth movie is currently in the writing stages.

If Disney shells out the big bucks for Efron, then it is without a doubt that Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale will also demand astronomical pay increases to reprise their roles of Gabriella Montez and Sharpay Evans. It would be not be surprising if the film’s smaller stars like Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, and Olesya Rulin agreed to come back for a similar salary to what they are currently earning. However, Efron, Hudgens, and Tisdale have proven to be stars in their own right who can do other projects outside of the Disney family. If HSM wants to keep them around, they’re going to have to break out the checkbooks and pay up!
