Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi aren't the only ones patiently waiting for California's Supreme Court to strike down the law banning gay marriage. The wait is also over for Heroes actor George Takei as he can now marry longtime partner Brad Altman after being together for 21 years.  The 71-year-old actor, who plays Hiro Nakamura's (Masi Oka) father Kaito Nakamura on the NBC series, has announced his plans to tie the knot on his official website.

“Our California dream is reality,” the Heroes actor wrote on his website.  “Brad Altman and I can now marry.  We are overjoyed!  At long last, the barrier to full marriage rights for same-sex couples has been torn down.  We are equal with all citizens of our state!”

Takei's wedding announcement comes just days after California became the second state to permit same-sex marriages in a decision that invalidates virtually any law that discriminates on the basis of sexual orientation.  The ruling, which means that that same-sex couples will be able to obtain licenses to marry throughout California, is set to become effective on June 16.

“Brad and I have shared our lives together for over 21 years.  We've worked in partnership; he manages the business side of my career and I do the performing.  We've shared the good times as well as struggled through the bad…He is my love and I can't imagine life without him.  Now, we can have the dignity, as well as all the responsibilities, of marriage.  We embrace it all heartily,” he added.

Takei, who officially came out in October 2005, has not set a date yet for the big day.  However, the painstaking dilemma of planning is what makes it “delicious,” according to the Heroes actor.

“Marriage equality took a long time, but, like fine wine, its bouquet is simply exquisite,” he said.
