Relationships come and go all of the time, both in life and on television. However, doesn’t it sometimes feel like characters on TV bounce back from relationships a little too quickly?

Yes, they’re on a little bit different of a timeline than our real lives are, but when Gilmore Girls‘ Rory is able to bounce back from her breakup with Dean in the very next episode, it can be a little unsettling. It takes time to get over your ex, and having these beloved characters find someone new almost instantly is both unrealistic and can make us dislike them a bit. Especially if they’re bouncing back after their loved one lost their lives (looking at you, Meredith Grey). Here are 7 TV characters who probably should have given it some more time before re-entering the dating world.

1. Meredith Grey, Grey’s Anatomy

Until season 12, Meredith hadn’t shown any interest in anyone other than our now-deceased McDreamy. The two were together for over a decade and had a family together. With Derek Shepherd only having died in season 11, less than two years ago, it seems a little soon for the widowed mother of three to be giving her phone number out to the troublingly defensive surgeon, Major Thorpe.

2. Sam Winchester, Supernatural

In the pilot episode of Supernatural, we meet Sam’s beautiful, supportive and perfect girlfriend, Jess. She dies in the first episode, but we later find out that Sam had been preparing to propose to her. The two had a very strong relationship and Sam seemingly couldn’t stop thinking of her. That being said, it didn’t take him too long to make out with an old school friend, sleep with a murderous werewolf and basically date a demon working for the bad guy who killed his mother and girlfriend.

3. Robin Scherbatsky, How I Met Your Mother

Robin was widely hated by many HIMYM fans, but not always rightfully so. Yes, she was the one thing holding Ted back from finding The Mother, his supposed one true love. The finale where Ted ends up going back to Robin in the future didn’t help her case either. Robin often gets labeled as selfish, and in terms of dating, that’s definitely true. Looking past the times she’s cheated on her boyfriends, stayed with guys she didn’t even want, let’s just look at how quickly she jumps back into the thick of it with guys. After a gut-wrenching breakup with Ted that caused him to grow out a breakup beard, Robin returned from Argentina after just two months, already with a new beau. So much for the love.

4. Oliver Queen, Arrow

Oliver’s love life has been pretty interesting. In his billionaire playboy days prior to the days of Arrow, he may have made a few relationship blunders and began dating too soon — once before even his current relationship was over. We found out in the pilot of Arrow that Oliver was dating Laurel before he got shipwrecked, but brought her sister on his boat trip instead. Bad enough of an idea to date your ex’s sister. Much worse to date the sister of the girl you’re still dating. As if that wasn’t enough, just barely after having come back from his five-year MIA hiatus, Oliver struck up a romance with Helena Bertinelli, who we later found out was The Huntress.

5. Rory Gilmore, Gilmore Girls

While Rory’s relationships have always been pretty calculated and each felt like they were a long time coming, she really needed to have taken longer breaks of solitude in between them. Each time she didn’t, it was poor Dean she dragged along. She had dated Dean for almost a year when Jess came around, but we could immediately see she was drawn to him. Okay, fine. Sad for Dean, but that’s life. However, her and Jess only made it official the day after Dean broke up with her because he couldn’t take being placed in second for her anymore. The next time Dean broke up with her in college for pretty much the exact same reason. Deja vu all over again. Just one episode later, Rory was completely over it and had already begun pursuing Logan even harder than she had been when she was dating Dean.

6. Michael Kelso, That ’70s Show

Kelso was pretty all over the place with girls throughout That ’70s Show, but the one constant (well, sort of constant) relationship in his life was always Jackie. At the end of season 4, the two are on the verge of making their relationship much more concrete. Jackie suggests they get married and Kelso agrees. When he freaks out after thinking about it some more, he takes off to California with Donna and immediately finds himself (temporarily) over Jackie and in the sheets with Annette (Jessica Simpson).

7. Jane Villanueva, Jane the Virgin

Right in the pilot of Jane the Virgin, we could see that she was crushing hard on Rafael, despite being engaged to Michael. Frankly, her excuse that she couldn’t trust Michael because he didn’t tell her about the investigation and thus she couldn’t be with him, felt like a ridiculous way to allow herself to be with Rafael. Sure enough, the very same night that she left her fiance and relationship of many years, she was playing tonsil hockey with another guy. At least wait for the dust to settle, Jane.

What do you think, is there a character you think has started dating too soon? Sound off in the comments.
