It’s a joint investigation in this Criminal Minds episode, “Internal Affairs,” with the lives of undercover agents on the line. Furthermore, this case may also mean the opportunity for the team to find out more about the network of hitmen.

In this episode, two undercover DEA agents are murdered and a third is missing. The BAU joins the NSA to investigate whether an underground Internet drug syndicate is involved. Hotch hopes that their work with the NSA will bring them closer to finding the Dirty Dozen hitmen ring.

Watch the promo for “Internal Affairs”:

It seems that the Criminal Minds promos are getting creepier and more disturbing each week. Victims chained up and locked in an attic, a man approaching a car on the side of the road during a storm and now, an UnSub dropping a human face that he had been wearing in front of a woman.

Check out a sneak peek of the team going over the case:

Three weeks ago, undercover DEA agent Mark Bowers, based in El Paso, disappeared. Five days ago, his body was found across the Mexican border in one of the most dangerous cities in the world. He was strangled, but that’s not the worst part; he was found with another human face covering his.

It’s not uncommon for drug cartels to use a body to send a message, so does the second face mean that he was undercover or two-faced? Could there be a mole on the inside of the cartel he was investigating? Whatever the meaning, this is bad news for the two agents still undercover, John Portman, who vanished a week ago, and Sarah Miles, who disappeared yesterday.

Watch the team discuss the case on the jet:

Mark Bowers’ body was found 50 yards away from a mass grave filled with enemies of a cartel, which could have been a forensic countermeasure to throw suspicion on another group. Furthermore, the cartel being investigated has an online and ground component, which Morgan attributes to “greed and hubris.” Why have one when you can have both?

Criminal Minds season 11 airs Wednesdays at 9pm on CBS.
