'Criminal Minds' Actress Stars in Gay-Themed Film

AJ Cook, who plays FBI BAU Special Agent Jennifer "JJ" Jareau on Criminal Minds, has signed on to star in an independently-produced feature film comedy called Misconceptions.  The film is being directed by Oscar and Emmy-nominated director Ron Satlof and is written by Ira Pearlstein and Ron Satlof.

Described as a movie that takes a lighthearted look at the ongoing culture war between same-sex parenting and Christian conservatives, Misconceptions features the Criminal Minds actress as Melinda Bliss, a religiously conservative, married southern woman who receives a message from God telling her to act as a surrogate mother and carry a child for two married gay men who live in Boston, consisting a Jewish doctor and an African-American dance choreographer.  Trouble and comedy ensue when when the African-American man comes to her home down south to “manage” her pregnancy.

Joining the Criminal Minds actress in Misconceptions are David Moscow (Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane, Looking for Palladin), who plays the Jewish doctor, and Orlando Jones (The Adventures of Chico and Guapo, Father of the Pride, The Evidence), who portrays the African-American dance choreographer. Also included in the film are Sarah Carter (Shark, Smallville, Numb3rs), David Sutcliffe (Gilmore Girls, I'm with Her, The Division) and Tom Bower (Gospel Hill, Pain Within), just to name a few.

Misconceptions marks Cook's third film after joining the cast of Criminal Minds in 2005.  She was first cast in the romantic comedy I'm Reed Fish starring Gilmore Girls' Alexis Bledel in 2006 and then landed a role in the 2007 horror thriller Night Skies, which is movie about UFO sightings.

Prior to the CBS crime drama, Cook appeared as Lindsay Walker on the series Tru Calling, which starred Eliza Dushku, and played Shelby Merrick on the family drama Higher Ground, which ran from January 2000 to June 2000.
