cory in the houseJason Dolley of Disney Channel's hit comedy series Cory in the House has landed the starring role in the upcoming movie Minutemen.  The  film is expected for release on March 2008 as part of the blockbuster Disney Channel Original Movie franchise.

Tapping comedy, science fiction and adventure, Minutemen follows three high school kids who invent a time machine to spare others just like them from the humiliation they've experienced.  The Cory in the House actor plays Virgil Fox and is joined by Luke Benward as Charlie Tuttle, Nicholas Braun as Zeke Thompson and Steven R. McQueen as Derek Beaugard.

The movie is written by David Diamond, David Weissman, John Killoran with revisions by Tom Burkhard.

Although Dolley is popularly known for his exposure on television, this isn't his first time to be featured in a movie.  Aside from his rock and roll fanatic character Newt Livingston, which is his current role on Cory in the House, the 16-year-old actor is also credited for his work in films like Saving Shiloh, The Air I Breathe and Chasing Daylight. Prior to his Disney role, he has also worked with director Mel Gibson on the comedy Complete Savages where he played T.J. Savage.

Along with Minutemen, Disney will also be releasing a movie called Camp Rock, starring Demi Lovato.  Scheduled to begin production in September, the flick centers on a teenage girl who desperately wants to spend her summer at a popular rock camp.  However, she can only attend if she works in the kitchen as one of the cooks.  When a teen pop star at the camp overhears her singing, he embarks on a quest to find the girl behind the beautiful voice.  Now, she must face her fears, step out of the kitchen and into the limelight.  Matthew Diamond (Desperate Housewives, Men in Trees) is set to direct the film.
